Hotel is fairly small. Rooms are spacious and have all that is needed. Bathroom wasn't too big and it could have been cleaned better. (There was quite a lot of hair around the shower and sink) Breakfast was ok - buffet with typical weird meats and cheese. Biggest error was that it is served in a corner, this leads to...

We went to Berlin for the Marathon, and we booked this hotel trusting that we will have a nice and comfortable room in a nice hotel, even more after paying almost 200€ per night. When we arrived we realize that it was not a hotel, the tiny reception was also the breakfast and bar room. We do not have elevator...

My boyfriend and I had been camping around Europe, however when we got to Berlin we decided to spend a little more on a hotel. We were quite apprehensive about choosing the Alex as the price was so low but we were pleasantly surprised to have a lovely spacious room, garden view, modern shower and toilet and great beds! Most...

Easy walking distance to Alexanderplatz and also has Tram M4 right outside & buses 100 & 200 nearby so perfect location for sightseeing. Bedroom & bathroom scrupulously clean, very quiet and very comfy bed. Rooms cleaned, fresh towels every day. Free safe in room. Fantastic self service breakfast which was constantly replenished by vigilant staff - and it didn't finish...

This hotel was a perfect match to my need for basic accomadation on a two night stay - spending all day on the streets of Berlin. The room, small and scarsely furnished, formed a perfect home away from home - the staff gave excellent and friendly service 24/7

Stayed in one of the apartments during a study abroad trip with my class to Berlin. It was actually a very good hotel, and the people working were very helpful. It also is very easy to get to using public transportation. The rooms were clean, the bathroom was clean, and the breakfast in the morning was great. I would stay...

Two friends from South Africa & I stayed for 5 nights and loved the Alex Hotel. On tight budgets we opted for a three bed room - anticipating a slightly cramped room (hotel photo's are always misleading, no!?) & being out all day. It couldn't have been more different. Our room was spacious, light, airy and so clean (we are...

I had to make reservations at the last minute and found the Alex Hotel through bookings.com. Their rate was good and included a nice breakfast. One review said there were better deals out there, but I found their price to be competitive and I liked the location. It is a basic european style hotel with fully renovated modern bathrooms and...

A great budget hotel. The staff was great. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast generous and complementary. The location is a bit off the beaten track but there are great trams and buses a right out front. Renting a bike is also a great option to get around town. Overall very good experience.

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
