The Hotel de Rome is always a first class experience. I've been there at least five times and the experience is always improving. Always better. Great location close to the Berlinale Center and the Sony Center it's in the middle of the old town close to everything.

As usually when writing about good hotels, I start by comparing them to the my best standard, the Four Seasons standard. So, this one comes close, almost very close. The location, as mentioned, is perfect in the centre-centre of Berlin, quiet, no traffic nearby. Good building, a bank previously, actually the manicure salon is still inside the bank underground tresor......

Highly recommend this hotel if staying in Berlin for both business or pleasure. Great location and wonderful rooms and service. Rocco Forte Hotel group continues to set itself apart from the other hotel groups and is always an excellent choice.

Great facilities, fantastic attention from the staff. One the best hotels I've ever stayed. The complimentary slippers are really nice, different to other hotels'. Very comfortable stay altogether in the room and in the facilities.

Very nice classic hotel, with modern elements in the cultural heart of Berlin. Due to its decent size, not too big not too small, it has very nice charme and provides excellent service. I would recommend this hotel at anytime.

After walking most of the day, we were ready for a break when we happened upon the Hotel de Rome, a five-star Rocco Forte hotel at Gendarmenmarkt, at around 14.00. We passed on lunch and opted for afternoon tea, first because the display of goodies was calling our name and second because there was only one table available and we...

Hotel De Rome is a luxury hotel in Berlin. Rooms are excellent, with large bathrooms including separate shower and large tub. Both shower and tub are great. Bathroom floors are heated, plus heated towel holders. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Concierge was also very helpful with how to get around to see the sights. This facility is a 20...

We had a small business event with 30 people or so. The location is just a few minutes from Gendarmenmarkt. The room was well appointed for such business presentation, with Powerpoint etc. The drinks and refreshments were good. After the event, we hosted drinks at the bar and we had a good area to ourselves. Overall, a satisafctory arrangement. The...

I adored my stay at the Hotel De Rome in Berlin. First of all the service is by far the friendliest in the city, the concierge and the receptionists will go out of their way to make your stay more comfortable. The SPA is *wonderful*, it has a very tasteful pool, which is rare, and I was very impressed to...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels. ... more   less
