My father and I stayed at the Monbijou Hotel for three nights, and had a wonderful experience. I am not quite sure why there are bad reviews (possibly American expectations?), but here is my experience: The hotel itself was lovely. The lobby and dining area are beautifully appointed, the staff was very accommodating. Yes, the rooms were small (for American standards), and yes the tv was very small. However, we did not come to Berlin to sit in our rooms and watch tv. Both of our rooms were EXTREMELY clean, the bed was very comfortable, the shower is wonderful (great pressure), and the rooms were consistently cool but not cold (it was 86 degrees out when we visited). My dad and I had separate rooms and we both felt there was adequate space to unpack our belongings and still move around comfortably (he is 6’ 3” tall, I am 5’ 4” tall). However he did say that he thought the room might be cramped if he had to share it with my mom! The location of the hotel is everything. It is two blocks away from a major shopping and dining area, one block from a train station, with corner stores and restaurants literally right across the street, and situated next to a lovely park. Yet, it is very quiet, and also feels very safe. My father and I arrived at 8:30 pm and were able to walk across the street and have an amazing Italian dinner at a very reasonable price. The one and only thing I would caution (as a woman who travels alone very frequently, and is overly cautious in new surroundings) is that there are no additional deadbolts or locks on the door (aside from the standard lock knob under the doorknob). This concerned me the first night, as it was a new place and I didn’t know how safe it was, and I ended up pushing a chair and my suitcase against the door. However, by the second night I felt completely comfortable with nothing against the door! Let me be clear, however, that I am an extremely cautious person and my fear had absolutely NOTHING to do with the hotel or location or staff. There were no “red flags”, just my own caution! My dad felt completely safe from night one, and travels very often! Overall, if you are coming to Berlin to explore I would highly recommend the Monbijou Hotel. We will definitely be returning!

Excellent location, very close to many of the main attractions. Lift access to upper floors. Room a bit snug, but well laid out. Bed good, bathroom OK. No fridge or kettle provided. Breakfast excellent, buffet with many options. Staff professional and helpful. Parking available under the hotel.

I booked this hotel through a package deal and didn’t really research the hotel prior to my stay. I must say I was incredibly impressed as soon as I arrived. The building is simply stunning and the team members on the reception desk were truly great. The bar/restaurant/lobby is beautifully decorated and clean. The room (twin) however small was perfectly equipped and shower room seemed newly renovated. This hotel is a gem and I would not hesitate to return.

Clean. Comfortable. Nice service. Central. Good communication with public transfer everywhere. Near market. Quiet. Breakfast is available at extra cost. Near popular street markets. Difficult to book a parking space for a car, though.

Fantastic hotel. Simply a stunning hotel within a beautiful city. My husband visited previously in September, and we returned together in December 2022- January 2023. Very clean and modern boutique style hotel, room was perfect. Location was ideal for exploring both on foot, by train or tram. All hotel staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. We enjoyed breakfast a nice selection. Lovely bat area and lobby reception area. Nice addition of rooftop terrace, due to bring out of season bar was nitrogen but area was open to guests to use. The rooftop did open on New Years Eve which was a fantastic event. We will definitely return to this hotel.

Stayed here for four nights with a group of friends in early May 2023. Excellent hotel with fantastic breakfast ( €17 per person ) with an almost infinite choice of eat as much as you can dishes. Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Each room has a safe. The hotel is located in the centre of Berlin next to Museum Island, and the main road leading directly to the Brandenburg Gate which was is about 1.2 km away. It is beside Hackescher Markt railway station which can be reached directly on the S7 route from Berlin airport. The twin room we had was very small but spotless and a decent shower although there was no tea or coffee making facilities. The room was made up daily by the housekeeping team. However I could see that the double rooms were a decent size. The hotel has a bar in the lobby with a selection of beers and spirits and the very helpful barman was even happy to make a coffee. There are plenty of restaurants to chose from in the pedestrian square beside the station. So in conclusion it’s safe, comfortable and very well located for access and the main sites of the city. Well recommended.

I was checked in by a friendly receptionist at 1:20 pm and received my room right away. The lobby was nicely decorated and gave the impression of a 4-star city hotel. However, the room did not reflect 4-star standards as it was very small and a bit worn out yet clean and tidy. The room could fit a luggage rack, a small closet, a small desk as well as a small coffee table and two chairs. The queen bed was comfortable and the pillows great. The high ceiling gave the room an airy feel but the floorboards were showing their age and would need to be treated. There was a 0.5 L water bottle in the room on arrival, not replenished. There was also a safe and A/C. The trams outside were a bit noisy, but I slept well nevertheless. The thick curtains did a good job keeping the room dark in the morning. The bathroom came with a walk-in shower with excellent water pressure in the handheld shower. Amenities (shampoo, shower gel, hand soap and body lotion; no conditioner) were from Molton Brown, which is a brand I like, but they were provided in wall-mounted containers, which I don’t find as hygienic as single-use bottles even though I of course understand the motivation of saving money this way. Breakfast was served in the ground floor dining room 7–11 (weekends until noon). It would have cost a reasonable 17 EUR/person, but I did not try it. Check-out is already at 11, although they were happy to allow me to stay in the room until noon and to store my luggage until my evening flight. The hotel is located in Hackerscher Markt, with lots of restaurants and shopping in the area. The nearest Spätkauf for drinks and snacks is on the next block, and the S-Bahn to the airport is a few minutes away. Alexanderplatz is within walking distance; the centre of West-Berlin is a train ride away. Hotel prices in Berlin seem to have gone through the roof post-covid, and my nightly rate of 95 EUR felt a bit much. But I can very well see myself returning in future if the price is right. All in all a solid choice for a business trip or short holiday in Berlin.

My partner and I have stayed at the beautiful Monbijou Hotel in Berlin and it's safe to say that we wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting Berlin. Everything about this hotel is perfect - the rooms, the design, the atmosphere, the amazing breakfast, the location - the list goes on! Above all, the staff are what make this hotel so special. They're so welcoming, attentive and kind and make you feel completely at home during your stay. The bar/lounge/beautiful library area is gorgeous and you could quick easily spend hours sitting there with a book, relaxing and watching the world go by. It also has an incredible roof top terrace where you can grab a drink and see the skyline of the city - a must! Perfect location for seeing all that Berlin has to offer with transport links a stones throw away, and so many sights within walking distance. It doesn't get better than Monbijou. We are planning another trip to Berlin this summer and we know where we'll be staying!

Having stayed at a number of Berlin hotels over the years, this trip I found the Monbijou. A gem just off the Hackescher markt, a great location with good public transport links for getting around the city. The hotel was very welcoming, although quite small the room was spotless and very comfortable and a bathroom with a lovely hot powerful shower. After a busy day out in the city you can relax in the hotel bar ( enjoy a local wine or your favorite tipple), again a warm and friendly environment, unlike many cold corporate hotel bars. Breakfast was a treat, with a good selection of local ingredients to set you up for a day out exploring the city. From check in to check out, all members of staff were helpful, friendly and happy to have a chat to make you feel welcome and at home. Thank you Monbijou for a delightful stay. Would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again on our next trip to Berlin.
