Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre, an IHG hotel, is celebrated for its prime location with direct mall access, diverse dining options, and a hearty breakfast buffet. While its amenities are generally well-received, guests have called out the pricey extras. The rooms receive mixed feedback; some visitors admire the modern decor and comfort, yet others point out cleanliness issues and noise.
Reviews indicate the hotel's location is highly convenient for exploring the city. Service quality appears inconsistent, and while the atmosphere is praised for its modernity, the absence of fridges in rooms is noted.

Fantastic hotel, 2nd stay at the Holiday Inn City Centre.
A 10-15min walk to Marienplatz and the Hofbrauhaus.
There is also a trainstation below the hotel but unfortunately that was closed while I stayed there 15th to 18th August.
Rooms are very clean and the staff are fantastic.
Will definitely be back for a 3rd time soon.

Being a IHG Platinum member, I normally stay at IHG hotels. This is the reason why I selected Holliday Inn Munich City Centre.
My overall stay was acceptable, but there were several small to major nuisances that led me to write this critical review.
1) check-in: the check in staff that attended to me was a trainee without a supervisor present and was very slow, shy, and provided me with zero information. I had to ask about everything. As Platinum member, I am used to getting a short introduction to the hotel, the amenities, and the perks given my status. None was provided during this check in
2) Room: although I asked for a room with Minibar/fridge at check-in, there was none. Going downstairs to the duty managers desk immediately, I did finally get a room with a minibar (I just need the fridge). They made it sound like I’ve been given an major room upgrade. Again, as Platinum member it’s common to get room upgrades, and often to executive floor or larger rooms. I don’t understand the big deal about a fridge or no fridge.
Ohh, and I had to move my own luggage from room A to room B. also something that I’m not used of at other IHG hotels.
3) housekeeping: I forgot to put up the ‘do not disturb’ sign when I went for breakfast. Returning at 8am from breakie, my room was being cleaned and entry was awkward. 8am is very very early for room cleaning. ‘My bad’ for not putting up the DnD sign, and fair enough that the housekeeping staff want’s to start early. But why not start cleaning the rooms of guest that checked out already vs the guests having breakfast? Lack of internal communication seems to be an issue here.
4) unauthorized room entry: this is a big one. I came back from my business meetings entered the room and was greeted by a maintenance worker sitting on the bathroom floor. There was apparently a minor plumbing issue in my room.
BUT: nobody informed me that there would be a maintenance call while I was away. In fact: I am used from other IHG hotels that such repairs require the guests pre-approval and in some cases guest or another hotel staff have to be present during maintenance work in an occupied room.
Overall: I am disappointed by this hotel, there was no major issue with my stay. But many small things that let me to write a critical review.

Thank you for your candid review. We apologize that your recent stay did not meet expectations. We are very sorry that our new colleague was not be able to offer you a fast check-in with the information that you were expecting. This information will be sent to our Front Office to reviews this process. Please note that upgrades in our hotel are possible due availability. We are always very glad to give an upgrade when possible. Unfortunately, it is not included in our standards to provide luggage service. As an ecological reason most of our newly renovated room is designed without a minibar, but you are welcome to contact our team at the reception during your stay. We are there for you 24 hours a day and are happy to preserve your belongings at the central fridge but that was not the case and we are very glad that you had a upgrade room with fridge. Please note that "Do not disturb" sing it is very important for our housekeeping. In a hotel with 582 rooms to take care everyday, it is necessary a regular schedule and to start all the rooms to clean after 12 or 14 o´clock at the same time it is not possible. We regret if that process bored you. Concerning about our colleague that was making a repair during your stay we would like to apologize if that was a surprise for you. When a repair is needed and the guest is not at the room, the repair is made and a letter will be leaved at the room. That was the first time that we have a complain about such a situation. We appreciate your comments and will share these with our team so that we can continue to improve our services. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, so that we can provide a better experience. Best regards, your Guest Relations Manager

This hotel is in a great location, short ride to the Marienplatz or even walkable from the hotel. Train stop, shops, and two grocery stores very close by. The rooms are clean and a decent size for Europe. The rooms are usually hot in the winter time, to the point that the windows have to be open at times.
We had two rooms booked for three nights over the New Year Holiday. We needed to change our plans and asked to stay only two nights. The front desk tried to be helpful, but the manager told the front desk to tell us that we would be charged 90 percent of the stay for both rooms! Ridiculous! We are IHG Reward members and repeat customers of this hotel. Disappointed that they could not be more flexible.

Actually second time for me in this hotel, the first time was in 2006 and a lot of water has flowed in Isar since...
The hotel seems to have undergone a complete renovation indoors, and the exterior does not do justice to what is inside. So don´t be fooled by the exterior design.
We got upgraded to a spacious room in the upper floors with a view towards the city. We kept the sofa bed open, but we did not feel crowded. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the AC worked fine. Everything was in really good condition and for the price we feel we received a very good value. All in all the personnel took really good care for us during and before the stay.
We did not have breakfast at the hotel, but resorted to the bakeries and coffee shops nearby that are plentiful. As others must have pointed out, there´s an S-bahn station adjacent to the shopping mall at the bottom floor of the facility. One can walk indoors all the way to the S-bahn, and there is a direct connection to the airport (lines S8 and S1), and naturally to the city as well. The city center is within walking distance, and there are good jogging opportunities by the river. There are 2 supermarkets in the downstairs shopping mall as well.
Parking is available at the garage, but it costs 20€ per night. Street parking is possible, but it can be difficult to find a spot.
I would totally recommend staying in this hotel, as the value for money is difficult to beat. There are also lots of restaurants in the Weissenburger Platz area, which is much closer than the Old Town.

My husband and I have just returned from a stay at this hotel. It should have been a 3 night break but we ended up staying 5 due to Lufthansa cancelling our flights twice as Storm Ciara/Sabine took hold across Europe....
We picked the hotel as my husband is an IHG member and we got a great rate including breakfast. The hotel is well situated, sitting directly above the S Bahn ( with a direct train to the airport) and being linked to a small shopping centre is a bonus. The immediate surrounding area isn’t particularly attractive but perfectly safe and it’s only a 10 minute walk to the shops, the old town a further 5 minutes.
We had an Executive room with a city view, the room was modern, clean and adequate for our needs. Breakfast is excellent and well worth the money, the choice is plentiful and good quality. We never ate lunch as we were so full from breakfast.
The bar serves lovely cocktails and it was a nice place for a drink before heading out to dinner. On our last night we ate dinner in the hotel again the food was good quality. The bar staff were all attentive and friendly.
We were lucky enough to find out 24 hrs in advance that our flights had been cancelled so didn’t have to queue or trek to the airport but the check in staff were well informed and able to assist us, unfortunately I cannot remember the names but the young trainee from Belgium deserves a particular mention as he was always friendly.
Munich itself is a great city, despite most of Europe being hit by a storm we had glorious dry bright weather for most of our stay. We explored the city as well as a day trip to Dauchau ( highly recommended).
We found Munich to be a friendly city with good food, beer & wine. Although casual The Pizzas at Pizecco cafe ( literally around the corner from the hotel) were beautiful and the wine was excellent also.
We also thoroughly enjoyed a meal at Kashmiri Inn, there’s a handful of restaurants within walking distance.
My only reason for not giving this 5* is on our first day the shower broke, the water was still hot & plentiful but the shower head would not stay upright so we had to hold it, not a major issue but the cleaning staff were aware of this but no attempt was made to fix it ( think it just needed tightening). Also WiFi was slow at times, these are just minor issues though.
Overall an excellent hotel in a lovely city, we’d definitely return

Your first impressions will be given to you by reception. This hotel has some really outstanding staff working that reception. Stand out person for me was the lovely Jade. Who went over and beyond the extra mile in customer care.... But also her colleague (Elissia / she's from Sciliy. I have mis-spelt and mis pronounced her name) so sorry. Lovely, clever so very helpful. The trainee girl was very good too....
Just the friendliest of welcomes. Porblem solvers.
The hotel is modern, clean and works very well. The rooms are a bit small, very average and middle of the road but they are clean and the housekeepers are really quick and efficient.
They have a really good gym. Modern and upto speed. The location is absolutely perfect, you are walking distance to everything and the hotel is next door to the tube station so riding in from airpoprt is a synch....(last time i was in Munich i got a taxi cost = 90 Euros. Train this time. Cost = 13 Euros.
The restaurant meal I had on NYE was one of the best I have had in a hotel. Restaurant is franchised out to a young guy who is making his mark. His Head Chef, has a background working in Michelin Star restaurant. It showed. I know my food, this really was outstanding. I 100% recommend eating in the restaurant. I normally wouldnt eat in a hotel rest, so glad I did.

I've stayed here several times during my travels when working. However, this is the first time back in 9 years. The hotel lobby has a nice upgrade since then. I chose a room with a view to the Altstadt which is one of the main reasons I always selected this hotel. The room was cleaned. The buffet breakfast was good. The hotel is on the S-Bahn via underground walkway, so it is convenient for airport and taking S-Bahn into Altstadt or the Train Station. This time I had a rental car, the parking garage is underground, you just follow the signs for Holiday Inn parking and then there is an elevator that takes you the lobby. The garage is public, so you pay when you exit at a kiosk by the elevator and not with Holiday Inn. All day was about 20 Euros. The hotel is about 20 minute walking distance to Marienplatz. There are plenty of restaurants, bakeries and cafes along the way. Tip: There is an Esso gas station next to hotel, if you need to purchase bottled water or other items. Next time in Munich, I will be staying here again.

Typical quality of what you would expect from Holiday Inn. Room clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was ok. There was a hot food station where cooked eggs, bacon , hash browns were made whilst you ate. Not much good for vegetarians like myself as it’s all cooked on one grill. You could go for the hard boiled eggs. There’s a bread station and then many other continental type breakfast items such as cheese, yogurts, fruit. Felt that it was worth it if you eat meat but not really for vegetarians.
There was an outside terrace or you can eat indoors.
The parking charges were steep and you had to pay in the petrol station next door which was a bit odd.
I would have given a higher rating if there was a decent vegetarian warm option for breakfast and if the parking charges were less.

While I am glad that you had a satisfactory stay with us, I was also concerned to read your comments about our breakfast selection and parking rates. I understand your point, and I am sorry for any inconvenience you experienced. This is not the dependable value that we wanted to provide our guests. I will make sure to share your comments with our team for the necessary improvements needed on our end. Thanks again, and I still hope you would give us another chance in the future. Mike F. Do not trust this Hotel with your reservation. In good faith, we booked and paid in advance for a stay from 31 December 2020. Despite numerous communications with this Hotel they refuse to refund our pre-paid reservation even though we remain locked in our Country with closed borders in Australia as of mid November. I am a top tier Spire Elite Member and even having top tier IHG status neither this Hotel or IHG Head Office will help. To make matters worse, this Hotel advised us they were entering Bankruptcy - however we note they are still taking reservations - and guests money. Do not trust this Hotel with your reservation.

We regret the inconvenience caused by the bankruptcy of the hotel operating company. Please be assured that we sincerely wish that we weren't in this situation and that we could transfer the deposit back to you. The reason why the hotel is still allowed to accept bookings is that the owner of the hotel building is looking for a new tenant for the hotel and because of this the business basis must continue to exist and to secure our jobs. At the current time, our guests only pay on the day of departure and do not make a deposit with us directly. Only when we have a new operating company that will manage the business of the hotel can we return to normal operations. We would like to talk to you personally about alternative options and we would be pleased if you would contact us by email at Munich-Sales@ihg-hotels.de. We are also happy to help you by phone on +49 89 4803 6215. With best regards, Christiane Göthlich Director of Sales & Business Development

The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Munich's old town and the walk back and forth is quite pleasant. There is also a metro station pretty much right outside the door if you prefer to go the two stations to the centre by metro ( a few stations further on the same direct line takes you to the main railway station). Rooms are clean and comfortable and if you are lucky enough to get a high floor on the city side of the hotel, you will have wonderful views over the city. Service is good and breakfast is decent. Decent value for money for a hotel so centrally located.
