The hotel is a comfortable size and well located on the Rhone near restaurants and shops with easy walking areas around. Its across the river from where most river boats embark. We had a nice junior suite with a good bed and river view that was quiet even though exposed to the busy street. As stated by others the furnishings are a bit tired and not up to date. There is a dearth of plug ins for charging your devices. On the other hand all of the staff from the bellman to the manager were genuinely accomodating with good English spoken. I give a shout out to the general manager Jaque and the concierge who made sure we could get meals even though we did not have the pass sanitare (applied for weeks ahead.) Everything was clean and the top floor restaurant has a great view for breakfast.

We had a great stay at the Bellecour downtown Lyon. Appreciated the excellent reception for us and good care for our very low sportscar by Le Concierge Mr. Sebastian. Nice room, breakfast area with a spectacular view. We felt welcome. Until next time!

From the outside to the decoration of the rooms and public area, this hotel has not changed since the 1980s. And, ok its August but not possibility of having more than a tapas to eat? (Except for breakfast)

This 5***** hotel needs a total overhaul. It has not been renovated for 30 years and it feels like you are back in the 80’s when you go in. This is shameful coming from Accor as it does not seem to care much if its Sofitel brand and let its hotels run down to disaster mode. When you have an other competitor like Intercontinental Hotel Dieu down the road which is pure beauty, you would think that Accor would do something about its own. A whole year of Covid last year could have been used to renovate its Sofitel and it did nothing. Very sad for a French brand that keeps spreading its wing in the Middle East ( Dubai) but can care less of France and its leading line of hotel.

While this lacks most of the polish and touches of a 5 star hotel, there were some favorable things. I arrived early and (for a supplement) they were able to upgrade my room and let me check in. Toiletries were status Lanvin. Toilet and bathroom were separate, kind of. You entered the WC via the bath, but there was no door, so it was somewhat useless. There was also a bidet. Towels were decent size. Staff, particularly the Japanese woman at the reception, was very pleasant and helpful. Bed and bedding were high quality and exceptionally comfortable. Air conditioning worked very well, even with sun coming through the windows. Minibar drinks are included in the cost of your room. There is no noise due to double pane windows. For the not so positive, this hotel is in desperate need of a makeover. It has a strong late 1970s feel to it. It does not feel luxurious at all. The lobby is almost shameful. I paid for an upgraded river-view room. It was spacious, but the windows were so incredibly dirty that I really did not have much river view. The dirt included bird excrement. The windows are set so that (with a key) they open inwards and therefore are EASILY cleaned. There was no excuse for that dirt. In addition, the electric blinds did not work properly. I did report it earlier in the day, thought I had it figured out, so called back and cancelled the repair. But at 11 pm, when I tried to close them, I realized one of the blinds was broken. I was in my pajamas and not willing to have someone in the room to repair them, so I just slept with the small blind open. It was a light problem in the morning. The bathtub had several areas of black mildew. This should not happen if the tub is properly cleaned. Corners should be dried, perhaps also sprayed to avoid this. I have lived in the same house for 17 years and have never, ever had mold in my tub. I live in a very humid area. This is a housekeeping problem. Parking was for a charge, but parking was available. I probably would not stay in this hotel again unless I got a really great rate. I believe I stayed in room 401.
