In a splendid setting between the Rhone and the Saone, in the most prestigious district of Lyon, a few steps from Place Bellecour and the Grand Hotel-Dieu, a majestic 19th century building, expertly renovated, is intended to become one of the most luxurious 5 stars hotel of Lyon. Let yourself be enchanted by the view from your room overlooking the Rhone or relax, while tasting a “ristretto coffee” in the luxurious Grand Salon, created in the former winter garden surmounted by a panoramic glass roof. The peculiarity of the Luxury Hotel Boscolo Lyon consists in the delicate balance between the splendor of the Haussmann’ architecture and the loveliness of the atmospheres created by the black marble, Vicenza stone, sophisticated curtains and other precious materials. Once acquired the hotel in 2002, Angelo Boscolo undertakes its metamorphosis at the end of 2018. The doors of the new Boscolo Lyon open.

Wonderful facade, but no follow through. The Italian restaurant was a huge disappointment, the breakfast included in the stay was minimal and anything "prepared" was tasteless. The noise on the riverside is extreme and disruptive starting at 6 AM and not ending until after midnight. The open bathroom concept is ill planned and even quite dangerous as water splashed out on to the marble floor. We had to place towels on the floor for safety-not attractive. There is absolutely no storage. Not a drawer to be found in the room for phones, computer etc. Attractive furniture put function and practicality were not a priority. May be nice for a romantic get away, but not a fun place to stay when traveling.

Wonderful hotel. Beautiful lobby and welcoming and accommodating staff. We traveled with kids 12-7 years old, booked two rooms, this was a last minute trip so unfortunately the hotel wasn't able to provide connecting rooms but they were able to give us rooms on the same floor. My girls really liked the Petit Prince motif on the closet doors. We managed to squeeze in a quick swim at the hotel pool in the morning, lovely pool, beautiful design. The hotel was very clean, and took the covid safety very seriously. Masks and disinfectant were available throughout the hotel, even the TV remote was put in a disinfected pouch. I would gladly return to this hotel if we ever go through Lyon again,

We spent a week here in November on a romantic getaway. We had chosen this hotel due to the pool and the fact that the hotel was brand new. After the first 3 days, I was actually looking at other hotels and thought about counting my losses and moving somewhere else (had booked a nonrefundable rate), but after a few days we decided to stay, and this was only due to one thing. A new general manager had arrived, and we felt that things started to improve. I am sure he will be able to make this hotel a great hotel, but I would wait to stay there for a few months until he has had the time to work his magic. Even though I feel the bad points will be improved, as we felt our points were heard, there are some problems I will need to mention if you have plans to stay here for the next few months. The breakfast – a clear disaster. They have a small buffet with lots of cakes. I know this is normal in Italy and this is an italian hotel, so this is what it is, but why the small dried out cheese tray with micro sized pieces that dries out in no time? The “hot” items you have to order. A great idea, that often at other places is executed to perfection, but here was a joke. The plates are not heated, and therefore the eggs are almost cold when served- But this is not the worst part. The breakfast chef simply can’t cook or don’t care at all. I had pancakes the first couple of days, the first morning they came out cold, not cold like they had been warm at one point, but refrigerator cold like 5c. Soo this this tells me 2 things – 1: A 5-star hotel that does not make the breakfast fresh? 2: Who in their right mind serves pancakes cold? The second day I had the Parma Ham with toast. The toast was not only the cheapest toast from a bag but I got the end part, which normally would be thrown away, furthermore the ham was cut in so trick slices that they were almost inedible. 3. day – I decided to try the pancakes once more. This time I thought I was on top og things and asked them beforehand to be served warm. Guess again – yes they came out stone cold. I then asked them to be heated. After a few minutes they came out again. This time the top one was somewhat heated, the bottom ones not. At this point with my husband sitting with his also cold eggs and cheap toast that came with his plate. We felt like we were at a cheap AI-Package holiday in Benidorm. The next days I opted for the buffet alone and the last day – even though we had breakfast included we decided to eat out. This is just bad business. Due to this we decided not to use any of the food outlets like room service or the inhouse restaurant. Why should I throw good money after bad? We had a drink one night, but for 20. euros pr drink I expect not to have to ask for a nibble to go with it. When you pay 20 euro there are some expectations on how it is served and what to expect to go with it. And the pricelist were just some laminated papers pieced together with a pin, more suited for a cheap beach bar The rooms are beautiful, but somehow bare, it feels like they still needs to add a desk and some more pictures on the wall, and the bathrooms are not very convenient as the toilet gets soaked when someone is showering, smallest 5-star hotel bathroom I have ever seen, and we had the largest room before a suite. There are no infos of any kind in the rooms, only a welcome letter, and even though I asked when checking in if there was anything I needed to know about the room, the guy at the reception said no. Turned out the minibar was free – something I only learned when I called down to ask about the prices I couldn’t find anywhere. We only used the water and sparkling water, but a nice gesture. The robes and towels are new, nice and fluffy and the housekeeping came everyday when we were out so the rooms were always fresh when we returned. I loved the pool. Perfectly heated for a swim, but if you are the lounging person and just like to relax in a pool it is not a spa-pool with 32 degrees, then I expect you will feel it is to cold, but for us that likes a swim for exercise it was a saving grace every day after sightseeing, and the shower there was actually a lot nicer than the ones in the rooms. The hotel is very well located, close to all the things you want to be close to and we walked almost everywhere and ate at the most amazing restaurants including a few with Michelin stars. All in all, we had a good stay, but I am sorry to say that I see no other option for the general manager but to fire the breakfast chef. It is clearly someone that not only can’t cook, but also don’t care about his craft and the guests, and the only reason this review isn’t lower is due to the fact that we really felt that the new manager will be able to turn this around and make it a great place. His attention is what elevates this review from 3 to 4

I have been quite disappointed with the Boscolo Lyon. 1. The service is very basic: the team members are kind and nice, but I do expect something different in a 5 star 2. The windows are not soundproofed, so, if you book a river view room, you have a constant noise during day and night. Book only if you sleep with earplugs or have heavy sleep. 3. The rooms are nice and bright with soft shade, but the recent renovation is done with cheap materials and cheap furniture, so expect a quick degradation, and, actually, some furniture are already worn. To be honest I had the perception that the hotel is still not fully completed. 4. The bathroom is open over the bedroom (excluding the large shower box and the toilet cabin), so if you travel in couple do not expect to have any intimacy. Acceptable in a motel, not acceptable in a hotel room which cost 415 EUR per night 5. The breakfast is also far to be a 5 stars level. Good Italian produce, bad service and presentation and uncomfortable seats 6. The location is wonderful, just off Place de la Republique and the restaurant area, facing the river. Please note that the links on their hotel booking page are broken since weeks, and this is the real image of the property: they try, have good will, but fail.

We expected a little more of this 5 star hotel. Our beautiful, spacious room had a lot of potential, but there are some (minor) details that need some care to be 5 star. For example the tissue box should be put iin an elegant cover. The electricity cupboard should not be visible. A side table at the sofas would be convenient. A minibar with some alcoholic drinks. With these little touches the room would be perfect. The bed is comfy, the shower is super, the sofas are nice. The service of the staff is correct, but without being exceptionally welcoming and warm. The hotel lacks a cosy bar area. The big lounge/bar is very chic, but has bad acoustics and has a rather cold atmosphere.
