Detailed Reviews
This hotel is a very stylish and comfortable place to stay which is what is needed as an escape from the madness of Marseille! We came for an adventurous short break and enjoyed areas such as Le Panier and The Cours Julien for their unique hipster vibe. Lots of Instagram opportunities available! We also
Took a trip to Frioul island and swam in the sea.The Alex was the ideal place to recuperate after walking many miles around the city. The spa was great, really well designed and we felt so relaxed after our session. We had breakfast once we were near the end of breakfast time and missed out on the advertised waffles and pancakes which was a bit of a shame but probably did our waistlines a favour. The room was cleaned everyday and the beds were particularly comfortable. There was a really good Carrefour supermarket just 2 mins walk from the hotel which was a good place to stack up on French delights at a bargain price. Staff were very friendly particularly the young blonde girl who worked at night time. She was very welcoming and helpful! Shout out to you !

Alex Hotel & Spa's location is very convenient; right next to the train station and around a 10-15 minute walk from the Old Port.
The room was modern, clean and comfortable with an excellent shower and tea & coffee making facilities. Breakfast was of a high quality with much to choose from including fresh fruit juices, croissants, pastries and a good coffee machine. The staff are friendly and accommodating. They speak good English but were kind enough to humour my French!
On the last morning of my stay, I unfortunately lost my wallet and phone during a Marseille city bike tour. Upon returning to the hotel, the staff allowed me to use the reception phone to call the bank as well as relatives in the UK. They then gave me €10 to purchase a bus ticket to the airport. This was a wonderful gesture and excellent service. Thank you so much everyone at Alex Hotel!

I've used HotelTonight to book at this property.
The concept is great: selected properties advertise their remaining rooms for last minute bookings. The property has the opportunity to increase its occupancy while the customer may benefit from a discounted fare.
But this property obviously uses the app. to trick you into booking the worst of their rooms. And because you fully paid in advance you have no recourse.
I was assigned a room where the safe was ripped off its support and where the bathroom was in a state of filth no one should be forced to live in;The room was barely 10m2. (see pix)
I'm sure not all their rooms are that bad. But I don't think any guest should be treated with less respect and consideration because they took advantage of a discounted rate.Nor do I believe any customer should be spoken to and treated the way I was by the front desk attendant.
I realize it's only one person, one room.
But why would you want to take a chance when Marseille offers a wide range of choice at competitive prices?
I left Alex Hotel the day after to book at NH Collection. It's my second stay at this property and I highly recommend it. The property is not only great, the staff is very nice and accommodating.
Note: I'm still trying to figure out what HotelTonight is going to do about it. It doesn't look promising. And I might have to ditch them too)

Dear Guest, I am very pleased that you took time to share your experience at ALEX Hotel because now we can write each other directy as your refused to contact us directly or to answer my phone calls. First of all, if you did not trust my team and myself why did you stayed at our property several times since 2019 ? Why did you made excellent reviews about us on hoteltonigh website and here on TripAdvisor (but it's seems that it's magically dissapeard yesterday) ? Why did not you ask for a room change instead of leaving the hotel, without saying a word? Isn't it because you did Something wrong in the room and ripped of the safe (6 attachement points) in a closet wich have 10 attachment points on the wall and foor ? and before everything why did you not mention it at night upon your checkin instead of waiting until next Morning ? We are open 24/24-7/7 and we are Always here to answer all the questions and complaints of the guest? As you are aware of the Covid-19 situation, we were closed for 3 months and a half and opended few days ago, we used the time during the lockdown for made all the work like painting, fixing, changing and decoration in each rooms, and as part of my team did not came back to work (situation is still really low in Marseille for hotel and tourism ndustry) I control all the rooms before the reception do a checkin, I am totally sure that everything was checked and fixed correctly. You mention correctly that you made a last minute booking on Hoteltonight website, which is specialized on discounted room rates for lastminute réservations, so you paid your three star hotel & spa (included) room rate 52 euros (instead of 101 euros) and you choose the first room category which is the CLUB Room of 14 sqm (+ balcony on the courtyard side) not 9 sqm (single occupancy) instead of choosing the Deluxe Room (20 sqm) , so why do you saying that it's our fault ? We can totally understand that the room might not be the one you expected and with a simple request at the reception, we could have change your room, and even if asking nicely, upgraded you on a bigger room, we do that all the time, and specially during this hard time, but instead (as we clearly can see that on your pictures) you take plenty of time to take pictures of the room at night (thank you to your pictures we can see it was the night) instead of talking to us. For a refund I inform that as you paid on the hoteltonight system not to us directly upon checkin, so for have your money back it's simple to ask them, (we will have the payment of your stay only 2 weeks after the end of your stay this is how they work) and we could have been totally understanding about that if you choose to talk to us instead of leaving without a word and complaining about evrything. The stained on the wall are not visible the day of your checkout so you probably throw some water on the wall and took pictures, the only thing which is true is the dust on the shower head, this is unforgivable to housekeeping team, and they apolgize for that, as well as i do now about that point. Do not forget dear Sir, that a good conversation explaining your point of view is Always better than saying Nothing and having a virtual revenge. All our guest are really happy to stay with us, enjoy the rooms and they are really surprised of how nice and polite my team members are. I remind you that you used to be in the same mood about our porperty and my team members on your previous stays. Anyway, we still hope that you had a nice stay on the hotel chains you mentionned and hope you made a reservation directly with them instead of using OTA which use to ask 20% commission on every rate (even the lower rates!). Regards, The Hotel Manager & all the polite and smiling team members of ALEX Hotel & Spa

I recently stayed at the Alex Hotel for three nights with my son while on a trip to France. The entry is right across from the St. Charles train station and is very nondescript and easily missed. Once you enter, you notice a nice lobby and attached lounge, where you take what you want and pay when you leave. Prices were reasonable (3 euro/beer).
The hotel is actually a combination of buildings on a block that have been refurbished. It includes a few courtyards that are nicely decorated.
The surrounding neighborhood could be described as sketchy and run down, but we never encountered any problems.
The room we selected (superior suite) was small (390 sq ft including bathroom) but had a queen bed and a full size sofa bed. Water and cola were replaced each day by housekeeping).
Breakfast buffet was decent, with eggs, bacon, breads, ham and coffee.
The staff were excellent. Every person we interacted with were helpful and kind. 10/10.
All in all, if I was in Marsielle again I would gladly stay here. The staff made the stay excellent.

Excellent position, comfortable and very clean. Not the most pleasant walk to the Old Port but with the Metro on your doorstep there's no need to walk. I like the room keys, made of walnut, presumably to avoid using plastic.

Feel like I stayed in a different hotel to other reviewers on here, but perhaps just a different room! We were meant to be booked into a deluxe double room, we got a box room with a slanted ceiling with a massive bathroom! My partner is claustrophobic so we checked out two days early. No room for suitcases so they had to clutter up the room.
We did complain & got told all rooms were the same size, that is obviously square footage & looking at others on a floor map it seems the size of the bathroom to bedrooms vary. I think this hotel have a real cheek charging this price for this room. Its a double at best. Feel like we've been ripped off, we also did not get robes but that was really the last of our worries. The only solution the hotel could offer was for us to move to a suite & pay more, I felt like we'd give them enough for poor value.
The hotel reception is very nice, when we got there they were good with regard to directions & places to go & eat. Breakfast also nice.
Area around the hotel, not so nice but that is one thing the hotel can't control & around the train station in any big city is not going to be the nicest probably.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We truly appreciate your comments, as they help us make improvements and ensure our guests have a better experience. We want to clarify that we do our best to provide accurate information about our rooms on our website, including detailed descriptions and room sizes. We're committed to transparency in our descriptions to help guests make informed decisions when booking. It's great to hear that you found our hotel reception helpful with directions and recommendations for dining options, and that you enjoyed the breakfast. However, we understand your concerns about the surrounding area. While we cannot control the neighborhood, we always prioritize the safety and comfort of our guests within the hotel premises.

The hotel is tastefully decorated and modern and across the street from the train station which is really convenient for the airport bus. There is a coffee pod machine at reception for complimentary coffee and complimentary water which was replenished daily by the housekeeping staff. We had breakfast once which was ok but nothing special so we thought it was slightly overpriced. Overall this is great hotel for exploring Marseille.

Alex Hotel and Spa was a great hotel! We loved the set up of the room for 4 people - there was a door separating the main bed from the rest of the room with a pull out coach for the kids. Xzander, the front desk/concierge was the nicest human! He was SO helpful. He and the others gave us helpful tips for seeing Marseille and directions.
The lounge area is very cool - with on your honor drinks available and a cool terrace to hang out on. The location near the train station made coming and going from Marseille easy. It was about a 10-15 walk from Vieux Port.
Marseille itself is a very interesting city. The hotel is nestled into local housing that is quite rustic/worn.
