There was just one thing wrong with our three night stay with Caroline and Hubert Lecomte at their beautiful Provençal chambre d’hôtes just outside Aix-en-Provence - it was far too short. We could, and should, have stayed longer. Next time ... Set at the end of a country lane and yet only minutes from the centre of Aix, Le Clos des Frères Gris was an ideal base from which to venture out to explore the area and to return to at the end of each lovely day. Extensive gardens surround the 18th century Bastide. The rooms are all furnished in a charming and stylish mix of antique and country style with supremely comfortable beds and well- thought out en suite bathrooms - Caroline’s attention to detail is amazing and there are lovely special touches everywhere. A sunny terrace is the perfect place to begin and end the day, starting with a delicious breakfast and relaxing at the end with chilled local wine and snacks, but if the weather turns inclement, there’s a large salon to retreat to, complete with comfortable chairs, a large table to eat at, tea and coffee, books, etc. Add a swimming pool and two friendly Dalmatians if a lazy day is on the agenda, easy access into Aix and glorious surrounding countryside if more activity is what you’re looking for, and it all adds up to a piece of Provençal perfection.

Our family of four stayed for a few days at the Clos des freres Gris. Every aspect of our stay was beyond perfect. The location is very practical yet tucked in nature and totally peaceful. The hosts are incredibly warm and helpful. Most of all I personally appreciated the attention to details, both in the rooms and in the service, the breakfast, the decoration, each item, from towels to coffee/tea corner, to Rosé aperitif at 19:00; to Petanque in the garden. There is not one detail that was not thought through to look the best, be the most convenient and convey the spirit of Provence. The Clos des freres Gris is a masterpiece of hospitality. It's heaven.

Caroline and her husband were wonderful hosts. Only a few kilometers from Aix-en-Provence, Le Clos des Frères Gris is a wonderful place to relax. My wife and stayed for three nights. The setting is simply beautiful. The breakfast is second-to-none: fresh fruit, jams, and homemade tarts. We’d come back in a heartbeat! If you traveling anywhere near Aix, I would definitely recommend staying here.

Le Clos Des Freres Gris is an absolute gem, especially if you are looking to stay somewhere that provides a wonderfully authentic experience in Provence. Caroline is a beautiful and accommodating hostess, and made us feel welcome and at home from the moment we arrived. She prepares a satisfying and large breakfast, with one hot item (this is not your typical French breakfast - so it was quite a treat). She also pampers you in the evening with a very special aperitif that includes a great Rosè and light finger-foods. Her home is absolutely lovely - we didn't want to leave. Be sure to peruse her quilt and vintage linens store (cash only and she does not ship). I promise you will not regret staying here one moment. Thank you Caroline!

Lovely spot tucked away just minutes from the centre of Aix which transports à visitor into an oasis of calm surrounded by a large garden, a nice pool and gentle dogs. The hotel provides a welcome relief after a day in the city or touring nearby towns and villages. The hosts make one feel right at home and provide all sorts of recommendations and tips for enjoying Aix and the surrounding countryside. The rooms are large and spotlessly clean and the breakfasts are quite special with freshly cooked hot items as well as a continental spread with all sorts of goodies, juices and coffee. It was a terrific stay!
