Paul Cézanne missed Aix terribly whenever he left, and never ceased to be inspired by its beauty. Many after him succumbed to the charm of this town and the ambience of this Florentine residence. The rooms are sumptuously decorated, and open onto a private garden filled with the fragrance of lavender. The cuisine pays tribute to Provence with dishes like sautéed loin of lamb and aubergine caviar with olives, black garlic sauce and fried basil. Try the famous local speciality of Calisson, sweets flavoured with melon and orange. Villa Gallici offers a special “Cézanne package”, which includes a visit to the painter’s studio.

Hotel's Favourite
Apart from the beautiful property with its own sculpture garden and pool, the rooms were thoughtfully decorated with attention to every detail. Perhaps one of the top best hotel experiences I've had. The service was impeccable and each member of the staff polite and informed. In all, I hope to find reason to return again as it really was the grand finale of a great summer holiday in aix-en-provence.

Is this the worst hotel I’ve stayed at? No. Was it good? Also no. Let me start with the positives. The property is gorgeously landscaped. You feel like you’re in a private oasis. The pool is very nice, but during peak summer hours the chairs are scarce. The breakfast buffet was fine. Restaurant staff were friendly enough. And on to the bad. I can’t believe this is a 5-star hotel. It’s overpriced and the rooms feel dated. The front desk employees were the least friendly we encountered during our 2+ week excursion in France. One evening we requested in advance that a taxi be called to take us into town. The gentleman at the desk said no problem. When we came back down to the lobby an hour later, a different woman was at the desk and said she had no record of our reservation and instead of offering to immediately call a taxi, sort of argued with us and continued to insist no such reservation existed. We were given the odd 2-story room…the bedroom was upstairs and the bathroom was down a narrow and steep flight of stairs. Overall it was annoying having to trek bath and forth. The room was also unbearably hot despite the ACs being on. We kept the window’s curtains closed during the day, but this didn’t seem to help. After a day of sightseeing, we came back to our room to find housekeeping had opened the curtain and turned off both AC units. It was absolutely miserable. The bed was uncomfortable, lumpy in areas. On the final night, we finally asked for a fan which they did provide. We had quite the unsettling experience when our hotel door was unlocked and 2 hotel employees appeared inside our door at nearly 11pm. I was dead asleep with earplugs in when they turned on the lights, we kind of just stared at each other and they finally closed the door. Completely bizarre. Finally, the location is subpar. While it’s only a 15-20 walk to the center of Aix, you really miss out on the charm of the town. Bottom line, I would never stay here again.

For 1000 a night they charge for bottled water. Service is surly. Buffet breakfast like a bad Marriott. Oh they forgot to clean the room. Location awful. Too far from town. The place is gorgeous but that is all there is. I cannot believe this place get rave reviews

I was looking forward to our stay at Villa Gallici. We were very disappointed. Our first room was gorgeous, but the bedroom was on the second floor and the bathroom 21 steps below on the ground floor. When my husband injured his knee, this became a problem. I had to beg for another room. It was on the second floor and there are no elevators, but at least once we were in our room he did not have more stairs. There is plenty of help, but twice our turn down service was between 10:20 and 10:40 PM , while we were in the room. Our worst experience was breakfast. We sat down and no one came to us for 20 minutes. There were four other guests on the terrace eating and a waiter and her aid. They were setting tables no one would ever use. I asked another waiter and he said one minute but disappeared. When I asked a second waiter, she was rude. Never apologized for neglecting us. Thus should not happen at a 5 star resort where they charge you more than 900 a night for the room and 37 euros per person for a buffet breakfast. You get better service at a Hilton Garden Inn. The management apologized. After that, we walked to town for breakfast. Overall, beautiful property with elegant rooms, but not at all worth the price. If you have any mobility issues, be sure to let them know.

This was by far the most fantastic hotel we stayed at during our honeymoon in the South of France, possibly ever. The room was phenomenal and incredibly unique, refined opulence is the best way I can describe it. We were so kindly given an upgrade and had a larger room with several walk-in closets and a gorgeous 2-story terrace with a view of all of Aix-en-Provence. Every single place you will walk by during your stay at the hotel is tastefully filled to the brim with elegance - you can enjoy yourself just looking around at all of the ornate relics. You are offered madeleines at check-in and tea time in the afternoon where you can read from the books they have scattered about or enjoy the atmosphere. The pool is great and offers a fantastic menu with great local produce. We had burrata and tomatoes and charcuterie; all were delicious and served with fresh roses (which are abundant throughout the place). Right by the pool you can enter the wellness area where you can enjoy the facilities of a spa - tranquil music, a jacuzzi, infused water, a sauna, and a "cryotherapy chamber" (which is basically a human sized refrigerator, not sure it really did anything but it was great to cool off in :) ). If you are looking for one luxury place to stay in your lifetime this is up there, in my opinion. We will be recommending to everyone we know and hope to make it back someday.

In general the Villa Gallici is very pretty and could be so much better than it is. I am surprised that it is rated as a top hotel in France, as we have been to many better hotels in Paris, in south of France, and in the countryside. First, it is a suburban hotel. It bills itself as having gardens but it does not… our room with a terrace was overlooking the “garden”— a small strip of grass. It is in a very tight built up area, so do not expect countryside. The plus side is a quick walk into central Aix. Second, the food is quite average. We were surprised that the lunch and dinner menu were exactly the same, with extremely limited options, no daily specials, and very average in taste, especially at the price. The AC definitely barely works. The staff in general were very nice and well-trained, but we had a major issue which we needed to speak to the manager about. The manager never presented himself over 36 hours of the problem, despite requests, and the reception staff ranged from rude to kind. We were also overcharged on drinks we hadn’t ordered, and were questioned rudely about those. Given the extreme expense of our 3 night stay, their pettiness and lack of leadership at the top, and the bad food and mis-billed location, the stay left a bad aftertaste. We would not go again or recommend this hotel.

I was a little surprised by some of the prior reviews. To me, the hotel is exactly what is advertised and shown on the website and in online photos. This is a small Villa about 15 minute walk from downtown Aix, it is not in the far country but does feel very remote considering is proximity to lots of shopping and restaurants. The furniture was just as shown in photos, which is old world over the top Italian villa style. The pool was clean, the staff was friendly, and the entire property was gorgeous. The AC worked OK, but I sleep in very cold normally so for me it was a little warm perhaps but really not an issue. If you are looking for a low key small Villa, near town, with great service this is a great spot. We were in room 8 which is on the top floor in the corner and was nice and quiet. One review mentions some issues with sirens or something, but we heard maybe 2 during the entire stay and they were so faint I would have never even noticed them had I now been on "alert" from a previous post I read, really the property was very quiet.

We booked the hotel through booking.com and it was very pricy but we wanted the fabulous experience. Unfortunately it was v v v disappointing. The pool was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY with bugs coming in your mouth. When we complained they still didn't clean it.. There were cobwebs all over specially the gym. They invite us for tea and charged us. And I forgot an expensive item behind in the room and I called them instantly they said they can't find it in the cupboard. And didn't bother even calling back. It was the most overrated property of our entire 15 day stay. On the flip side Hotel Vila Angie a few minutes away was beyond fantastic...I recommend it v highly to everyone. Brilliant hotel and service and experience.

We had a very lovely stay at Villa Gallici. The staff is terrific in both the hotel and dining room. We had a very nice dinner the first night but did not return for dinner again since the menu was limited but more importantly did not change during our 4 night stay. Some have issues w the outdated furniture, I do not, it works. The gardens are well maintained and simply lovely. When we stayed the hotel was far from full yet they charged me 20 Euros a night to park-to me very tricky tack and left a very vile taste especially given the overall cost of the room. Just silly

This Ralais & Chateau property did not disappoint. It's stunningly beautiful and so discreet. You'd never know what's behind those beautiful gates. The service at every point of contact was absolute perfection. Walking distance to the old town.
