Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here in August 2022 and had a regular room, with pool view. We chose the pool view to avoid any street noise. The room was clean and very quiet. It got very dark as well with the curtains. The A/C is good. The bathroom would need renovation. Generally speaking, the rooms seem a bit "dated" (i.e. you see it's an early 2000s design) and a general overhaul. The check-in experience was not great. We did arrive at approx 1.30pm, while regular check-in only starts at 4pm (which is OK). However, we were told that the room would already be available in 20minutes, so a good surprise. However, we had to wait 3x 20minutes... Next time, just tell us it will be another 2 hours so we can explore the city rather than lose an hour waiting in the lobby... It was made up by a free drink at the bar, so that's ok.

Hotel's Favourite
Spent three nights in this hotel and had a very nice stay. The location is good and easy to get to and get in and out of, which was beneficial with a car. I didn't reserve parking at the hotel but there is a public lot just across the street. The staff were nice and accommodating and the room was good sized and clean and the bathroom in particular was spacious. It had a nice bar area which was good for a late night drink.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hotel Roi Rene while in Aix. It's a gorgeous hotel - beautiful lobby, a gorgeous outdoor swimming pool, bright dining area with an incredible breakast. My room was comfortable and elegant - it wasn't large, but it was airy, light-filled, luxurious. The location is perfect, centrally located and easily walkable, but tucked away enough that it is quiet. I loved my stay here.

Was very warm and A/C was barely working. Decor seems to have no rhyme or reason; the furniture in the lobby needs to be worked on. Looks nice but needs restuffing or whatever you do to furniture. Staff was very nice & helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable except for being so dang hot, and quiet. Breakfasts were very good!

Good morning, We are sorry to read that the decoration of our establishment was not to your liking. We are in a 4* hotel with fine and elegant decoration. We are not in the extravagance but we take into account your remark in order to give more character to the decoration. We are delighted that the service and quality of the restaurant has delighted you and we thank you for your trust. We look forward to welcoming you again on the occasion of a future stay. I was there in July for the Aix music festival. Very good situated hotel, nice service, very nice breakfast. But there is a huge need for upgrading this aging hotel. For instance it is quite impossible to access your room with the card key. You have to go back to reception each time and even like that you have difficulties. This was exactly the same last year. Please invest a bit! Very expensive for what it is but ok it was Festival time.

Good morning, First of all, we hope that you enjoyed your stay at the Grand Hotel Roi René as well as the programming of the Aix Festival. Thank you for your positive comments that encourage our teams. Concerning the room keys, being magnetic, they demagnetize with the phone or credit card. To avoid this problem, please place your card in a separate pocket. We consider all of your recommendations and thank you again for your trust. We hope very soon, Elisabeth Mendes Executive director

We have been in France 12 days. This is the worst hotel of our tour. Our room is dirty. The A/C vent is filthy with dust and grime. The metal push plate in the toilet room looks as if it has never been cleaned. The shower head pulsed out three weak streams of water. There were numerous choices at breakfast. But I was not satisfied with anything except the croissants. They had small espresso machines with pods which were very unfamiliar to us and inconvenient. No one offered to bring us a pot of coffee but another member of our group did get a pot. There was clearly a sign saying the Pass Sanitaire (French Covid Pass) was required for breakfast but no one asked to see them. We were sitting where we could see everyone who came in and no one had to show their health pass.

It is a nice hotel in a very mediocre town. The hotel wins at service, everyone is professional and helpful. We are staying in a suite, it’s decor is peculiar but it is spacious and comfortable enough. Housekeeping is inconsistent, not all towels were replenished, no extra bath products provided even though we were running out. But it is all fine. The location is super, easy to drive to from the highway. If you book a parking spot you are guaranteed awesome valet service and zero issues. The breakfast is awful but it is optional so just go to town. It is actually so bad that I believe there are better at Ibis. There was actually nothing that was high quality, including baked goods which is an achievement in France. Simply avoid breakfast and go for everything else.

I had such wonderful 3 days staying at the hotel. I especially liked people there, they were super professional making sure I am having the best time and calling me by my name. Restaurant and pool are just amazing as well. I would love to go back to Aix for this hotel.
