Crisp white cotton sheets and lovely big towels and a good heavy shower and a lovely garden for sitting - all in a great location. I felt lucky to find this little place. It is being renovated but right now looks a bit quirky. Fast WiFi too.
This is an inexpensive hotel ideally situated on the edge of the old town. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Facilities were basic but efficient. We had a lovely view over the garden looking towards the Cathedral. Our generous continental breakfast was served in the garden. We were given a very warm welcome by the owner who was helpful in many ways. We plan to visit Aix again and will certainly stay in Hotel Paul.
When booking the hotel we had been under the misapprehension that there was free parking. There is not. A multi-storey car park nearby was our only option, adding to our expense. The receptionist was dismissive of our complaint, and we ascended to the second floor room (7) which was not a "street view" room as advised, but had no view whatsoever. It was also dirty, had a vile odour, peeling paintwork and felt like a prison cell. When we complained about all this to Booking.com they arranged for us to be upgraded and we were offered another bigger room - a twin bedded room rather than a double - with a view of the garden. This had a larger bathroom and was generally pleasanter, the odour was still present, but it was acceptable because of its other attributes and we were content that our needs had been honoured. We are not in the habit of complaining, and this was the first time we have tried to cancel a hotel reservation booked through Booking.com and requested re-housing elsewhere, so it was an uncomfortable atmosphere for the next couple of days. On departure however, the manager of the hotel - Victor - added to the unpleasantness, by lecturing me about his hotel and how it was reasonably priced, perfectly clean and that no hotels in Aix have hotel parking. This was a step too far! Is it usual for a hotel manager to harangue his guests in this way? If you have to stay in this hotel, ensure you have a garden facing room (they are still only 1 star standard, not 2 as advertised), but if you can, avoid this hotel.…
Paul hotel had a very good location. It was in the centre of Aix en Provence, near cafes, restaurants and the Cathedral. It has a back yard, very cosy thow we didn't use to be there often. Hotel Paul doesn't have new interior, but it's in the style of Provence.
This hotel, right at the edge of the old town "vielle Aix", is clean, safe and conveniently located for walking around the old town. A parking garage is located just a half-block away - very convenient as old Aix is a walking town, not a driving town. The new management is helpful and eager to please. He helped us (senior citizens) by carrying our suitcases to our second-floor room, and down again when we were ready to check out. We have been staying here for about 20 years. It's not fancy, but it's good and reliable. We recommend it and hope it continues to do well.
