We have stayed at Villa Lara twice and already have a third time booked. It is elegant, immaculate, the staff are all friendly and helpful. We had a need for a doctor and they took care of making an appt, so we were able to deal with the issue right away and get on with our stay. The views of...

My husband and I stayed at the Villa Lara in Bayeux for the three nights we were in Normandy in early November as part of a vacation that also included stays in London and Paris. Honestly, the Normandy leg of our journey was my favorite! We traveled from London to Bayeux by train, which included a train AND station change...

We loved our room at the hotel and the cheerful, pleasant staff. Room was spacious and full of attractive, good-taste furniture and art, Plus, it's so close to the sights, including the wondrous tapestry. But, best of all for us, was the morning manager. We had a reservation at a small ritzy hotel in Paris for a few days later,...

Just the type of hotel you expect when looking for French luxury. We were amazed at the beautifully finished room and features. It is a great hotel to stay in when visiting Bayeaux and the Normandy Coast. It is very close to the town centre, the Bayeaux Tapestery and the Bayeaux Cathedral.

There can be few hotels with so much going for them, great location, ample parking, town within easy walking, rooms supremely comfortable, breakfasts delicious and fresh, access in the hotel very easy.......everything is great except the somewhat over the top decor! Gold frames to TV sets are too much for my taste. However, this is a very modest reservation, this...

This is a lovely small hotel, less than five years old. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We started each day with their typical European breakfast, which was very good. The security is also good as you can park in an interior courtyard using your room key for access. The staff is friendly and super efficient (and they all...

This lovely Hotel makes you appreciate the overall experience of small boutique hotels while traveling abroad. The entire staff was exceptional and helped me a lot. They make the time to get to know their guests and suggest wonderful options in Bayeux and Normandy. The Hotel is centrally located in the smaller town of Bayeux and located within walking distance...

If I could give the Villa Lara Hotel 10 stars I would. This hotel is by far the best place I have ever stayed. The hotel itself is gorgeous, just being inside it is a treat. It's warm and inviting, but truly elegant as well. We stayed in a room on the second floor that had a separate area for...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations. ... more   less
