The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations.

We loved our stay at Villa Lara. The rooms were large and comfortable, and we had a magnificent view of the cathedral -- especially lovely in the evening and at night! The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed having the beverages available for free from the minibar. The staff wer

We stayed here for two nights in mid November and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Our room was beautiful, toiletries were Lalique and only faintly scented (not that horrible strong L'Occitane you get in many lux hotels), beds were comfortable and the location can't be beaten as it's

I have been staying at the Villa Lara in Bayeux since it first opened in 2012. This last trip to Normandy in October, we spent five nights here. Arriving at the hotel is like greeting family. They are the perfect hosts, and they are eager to assist you with any request. The rooms

I will certainly come back to Bayeux and stay at the Villa Lara. The hotel was perfect - but unfortunately I spent less than one day and arrived at midnight so couldn't enjoy the hotel (or Bayeux) for very long. The service was impeccable, the room luxurious in an understated w

Housekeeping gratuity -- we will be checking out tomorrow after a phenomenally fabulous visit...and have had difficulty getting a consensus as to what represents the "right thing to do" vis a vis gratuity to be left in the room for the housekeeper. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance for any responses.
We tipped each person individually at the front desk who helped us with reservations, etc. To the housekeeper, we left 10E on check-out day. (We had previously left a daily tip in the room, which she didn't pick up.)

My wife and I are thinking of staying for a few days, can you tell if there is car parking available. Thank you Colin
Dear Sir, Indeed we have a secure private carpark for guests of the hotel. Because we offer this service for free, we are unable to take reservations. In the past we have never had a problem with the lot being too full, but in that case there is lots of municipal parking directly adjoining the hotel. Thank you for your understanding. Should you wish any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us anytime.

Are the rooms air conditioned .
Yes, we were there in July. This is a very nice, modern hotel. First class all the way. The rooms are very nice. You will not be disappointed.
