Set on a large site facing a pedestrianised area with a buzzing bar and restaurant on the ground floor the hotel has been refurbished since our last stay and in our opinion, not for the better. Reception and hallways are painted dark purple and burgundy displaying large interesting art work. The rooms have been “blinged’ up but attention to the smaller detail has been missed. There was a state of the art coffee maker, but it only made espresso, - nothing on offer for those who enjoy milk in their coffee or even a tea ! – which wouldn’t have fitted in the thimble sized cups anyway. No complimentary water and no ‘fridge in. the room.. The bathroom had been by-passed by any sort of upgrading. It was tired and not clean looking. Old fashioned pipe work was dusty and the floor and taps were dirty. Now coming under the category of Boutique Hotel it’s a shame the ‘modernising’ of this hotel doesn’t hit the mark. Also, you might need technical wizardry to access the wi-fi connection. However the staff are great and worked hard to make our stay good.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Royal Hotel in Nîmes. The concierge gave us a warm reception - she offered advice on what to see, helped us locate the restaurant we wanted to visit on the map and spoke English fluently (I wanted to practice my French and she was fine with that too). Our room was clean and bright with high ceilings and plenty of room, and contemporary, playful decor. Most wonderfully, the central A/C kept the room cool without being loud (like so many hotel air conditioners in the States) and without blowing cold dry air directly at us. The hotel is downtown and we were there on a Friday, and things didn't quiet down outside till around midnight, which is something to keep in mind if you're going to be trying to fall asleep at 9pm. Also if you're not used to French showers you might be thrown by the lack of a curtain or complete enclosure around the shower head. This is normal in France, and at least this one has a small panel to protect from splashing. Also, great location! Just around the corner from the Maison carrée and an easy walk to the train station. In short, we were glad we chose this hotel and we'd stay there again.

Great decor in the public facing spots and we had a nice big room (think some are smaller than others though). The bed was comfy and we had a great nights sleep. The bathrooms need an major update and could do with proper showers and the tiles redoing to get rid of tiny patches of mould. It would be so nice if more french hotels had kettles and tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. The hotel is in a great location, very close to everything and has a good vibe going on in the bar, definitely the place to be seen in Nimes. Would stay there again

This hotel is a 3* but it's staff and management give you 5* treatment. We have just come back from 4 days and wow we were treated well. Yes, our room was on the small side (which I have read before), but the wonderful lady on reception offered us a bigger room but less of a view of the beautiful square, so we took the smaller room. Bearing in mind we really only used it to wash and sleep, the weather and beauty of the city kept us out all day and all in walking distance from this hotel. Now this place has alot to offer, it's own restaurant, bar and music in the week, it was packed every night. But want to mention they have sound proof doors between corridors and you won't hear a thing if you so choose to go up early after a hard day looking at this beautiful city. I thank all the staff for looking after us.

Booked this hotel based on its location, but was very pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome, great attention paid to needs of my disabled wife, and the character of the design. Also, the breakfast was included in our rate and more than adequate for a good start to the day touring the historical sights of the city just a short stroll away. Spacious comfortable room and slept well on the wide double bed.
