This beautiful and almost hidden town house is a credit to it’s owners, providing very comfortable accommodation and facilities in the centre of Nîmes and close to the main tourist attractions. Located in a narrow one-way street and parallel to the main road with no direct access to parking, it possesses a GPS killing address which should have been explained well in advance since it was an unnecessarily frustrating experience to have arrived by car, especially as the road itself is beset with cheap takeaways, hookah shops and souk-like emporiums that never seem to shut. Ou large room on the first floor was very comfortably furnished with air-conditioning, TV, safe et cetera but also with a double bed more suited to the diminutive stature of Napoleon rather than modern day Europeans........the hand-held shower in the (clamber over the side for access) bath was also less than impressive. Our peace was shattered at 04:45 by a raucous gang of people throwing old furniture from the street adjoining the hotel onto the back of a lorry, a cacophony that was not the fault of management but clearly something that could have been dealt with in a better way. A very respectable breakfast is provided, I suggest you arrive before 08:30 or after 09:30 in order to avoid the crushed peak period. Immaculately clean and with very helpful personnel to assist you with your stay, it is a well-priced hotel.

Positives - Located in the centre of the historic town of Nîmes, Hôtel Marquis de la Baume is a 17th-century town house. It’s gorgeous!!! The staff are amazing (helped me so much) and the breakfast included a lot of options! Comfy too and quiet location although I did walk up early to noises on the street but that’s City living! Negative - it’s temperature controlled so if you feel the cold ask for another douvet! Although I felt warm in the morning. It’s about 15 minutes walk from the train station so if you have bags it’s a longer walk. The street is quiet so for solo travelers it’s a little hidden away but I felt safe! No kettle in room but they have coffee machine.

The management of this hotel, as you can see from reviews on many sites, lie about "fast broadband in every room". Ours had either no signal or occasional weak signal. The excuse is that the old stone walls are very thick. The managers simply lie and lie and lie about this. We had to sit in the lobby to have access.

This is a decently priced hotel and is well located to explore this great city but even so, there were quite a few reasons not to be able to recommend it. The road it is in is quite shabby, with an all night burger bar opposite. Consequently if you face this road, you get traffic (scooters and boy racers) and noise all night. To be fair the windows are well glazed but as the a/c didn't work well, it wasn't great having to choose between noise or air. The building is very attractive inside and the bedrooms well appointed (though could have done without the floor to ceiling mirror in front of the toilet and in this day and age, a hand held shower over the bath is ridiculous!). However the staircase is tricky - especially when the lift was out of order for most of my visit. It didn't occur to anyone to put notices up though! I booked 6 months ahead and asked for a quiet room, but still got put next to the lift. (There were also towels just outside my room soaking up a bad leak from the ceiling). The staff are friendly but deserve better from Best Western.

Dear EnglandFinediner, Thank you very much for choosing our hotel and let a review about your stay. We are sorry for the bad experience you had in our hotel. Regarding the night burger in front of us, we knows that the city of Nîmes asked him to close the shop at 1 am maximum. In the beginning of January the lift will be totaly change for your maximum comfort. Regarding the leak from the ceiling, it should be fix really soon. All our apologizes for the different inconvenient and we hope your next stay in Nimes will be better ! Best regards,

Stayed here with friends over the feria weekend. Good sized clean rooms with amazingly prompt make up service. Breakfasts were all you could ask for and the inner atrium and old stairway is very nice and allows people who smoke to do so without standing in the street. It's only a short walk to the Arena and other historic sites. French four star hotels can be very hit or miss but this one is a hit.
