Halle Pajol consists of a youth hostel, a public library, local activities and a public garden in three distinct but related entities. The hostel was fully completed in May 2013, and is a unique Parsian spot. Commissioned by the residents, the project Halle Pajol began in the early 2000s, following the decision of the city of Paris. In order to answer to the resident's requests, the city hall of Paris decided to build a cultural facility in a sustainable and ecofriendly way. It is in this spirit of innovative and efficient building that the hostel Yves Robert was born. The hostel is located in an environmental-friendly-neighborhood one of the best examples of sustainable development in Paris, between the Gare du Nord and Montmartre.

Detailed Reviews
My friend, and I stayed here for one night before catching a Eurostar train in the early morning. The 15 minute walk to the station makes this ideal, and the included breakfast began at 7am, which was convenient. Breakfast was limited, but was to be expected. The breakfast staff were slightly unfriendly, and denied my friend a second glass of orange juice, which seemed unreasonable, However, the rest of the staff were friendly, and helpful, especially the lovely lady at the front desk, who helped us practice our French.
The rooms were clean, and very big! The shower and toilet were of a good standard. The area is nice, but around an hour and a half walk to the Eiffel Tower, so not really suitable for those who don’t enjoy walking, although there is a metro.

The positive points: pleasant area and close to the Metro. Great location to get around...friendly hostel staff
Negative points: very unpleasant smell in the room, between the smell of the sewers and that of a retirement home...
No hot water in the shower for the 3 days of the stay. The shortest showers of our lives. With 4 children, we didn't try the shared showers.
For the price for 6, my walk-in shower as advertised made us laugh all the same.
For breakfast, there was little choice of savory items (hard-boiled egg and slice of brie) and the restaurant staff, frankly unpleasant, monitored the trays because it's one fruit, one egg, one pastry per person. If more, they make you put it back in the buffet.. maybe with more choice and good bread, people would eat less of the same thing..
So mixed. But that didn't stop us from enjoying Paris... but if we come back, I wouldn't come back here

Nice hostel, the shower in our room was very dark and we couldn't regulate the water temperature.
There were plenty of shared toilets in the corridor (and clean) so there was never a queue.
The room quite spacious. Location close to three different metro stops but in the evening the neighborhood is not the best.
Recommended if you are traveling on a low budget

Staying at this hostel was a complete pleasure. So many ecologically sound details had been fully considered. Low water use, solar roof, beautiful trees and plant screening, reminders to use the stairs, timed showers and taps. All that consideration Ina very clean environment with very friendly and helpful staff . The simple breakfast was just right too. We had one noisy (from outside) Saturday night and then it was very quiet for our other two nights.
The area is a little concerning at night so we took the metro until we were nearer then took a taxi to the door. It’s fine in the day time.
I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Paris now because this place puts the planet before money. It’s reasonably priced so accessible for families and those on modest incomes.
I wish all hostels and hotels follow this model!!

Sadly wouldn’t recommend. Whilst it was reasonably well situated near to transport options it was a bit rough especially at night. The rooms we booked were described as having a private bathroom but when we turned up we discovered we had a shower and a sink but no toilet. Room was basic but it is a hostel. Room smelled of urine. The free breakfast was disappointing- worst thing was my husband went to get more toast for hungry children and was shouted at by Knuckles McGinty orange prison suited French dinner lady. Really not the cheapest and whilst a cheap option is hard to find in Paris, I think there are far better options out there.

We made the reservation,
From a room with a private bathroom and it turns out that there is only a shower, it does not have a towel and this is not specified anywhere, nor does it have them for rent, you see your family without towels and a staff not prepared to serve you, quite the opposite. They refuse to even talk to you, they are there to collect the tourist tax and give you the room keys, no more information, I have already stayed in hostels and I have never had problems and in this case nothing more comes only problems. I request a time for complaints and the man at the reception is the most unpleasant person I have ever had. He never leaves me waiting, pretending not to understand me until I write to him through a translator in French and he gives me an agenda, I don't know about France but in Spain it is something mandatory and must be registered in an agenda without further ado. A shame.

Please don’t book this place looking at the price, they will give you nothing in exchange of that.
The charging sockets are not working, the wifi won’t work in the room, there is no hot water in the shower, nothing is managed properly.
When you’d complain they’ll just say “we don’t know” this is the way they solve problems.
If you don’t wanna end up having an awful experience don’t book here.

You should absolutely stay away from this terrible hostel for several reasons:
1. The location: this hostel is located in an extremely sketchy area. The streets are filled with men that loiter around and it is absolutely unsafe for a woman to walk around there alone.
2. The staff’s attitude: the staff from check-in (and especially) to kitchen/cleaning staff are rude. If you ask a question and they don’t speak English or any other language than French, they make fun of you and are condescending and humiliating. I had an awful experience trying to communicate with them.
3. There are no locks on the lockers and you’d have to pay a few euros to buy one from them. There’s also a towel charge so beware
There’s so much more to say but I’d only advise you to stay away from this horrible hostel with rude people, and pay a few extra € to stay somewhere safer with friendly staff.

We booked a 4 bed room for our family (2adults and 2 kids) for 4 nights. It was perfect - not too much noise, close to restaurants/cafe/bakery, metro 5 mins away, and some fantastic local people playing with kids most evenings.
I was expecting the breakfast to be diabolical due to some poor reviews but it was just right - 1 x boiled egg, 1 x choc croissant, muesli, 1 x fruit (yes one only), yogurt, a little bread roll and tea/coffee. A god size and healthy start to the day.
If your kids like soccer, buy a ball and play with the local kids.
There’s a certain edginess to the area but that’s part of its charm, we loved it.
On your way to the Marx Dormoy Metro there’s a bunch of little bars, supermarket, bakery, and restaurants.

The kitchen aid looks carefully what you take for breakfast, and blame you in front of all the other customers for taking too much on your plate (2 tiny breads, and a bit of all the rest, and a bit too much cheese because it was camembert, and the slices were sticking to each other). Her colleague blamed me for defending myself, calling it a lack of respect, while I was the one who was insulted. For me breakfast is the most important meal of the day since it provides me with the necessary energy to do all the things I want to do. I stay sober for the rest of the day. When I reported this to the reception they laughed in my face and said there was no way I could file a complaint. Never in my life have I been treated as rude and brutal as in this hostel, I suggest they place big placards in the breakfast hall that mention the maximum portions you are allowed to take instead of shaming people publicly

Hi Suzy,
I am 69 and just got back from this hostel with our group of secondary school students. No single rooms and only 4 doubles in the place have toilets! I was lucky to get one because the first room they gave me had no toilet.I shared with our French teacher and that was o.k. as I have shared with her before. Hope this helps a bit.

Depends on the room. Some are ensuite, some are not.
