I stayed several times at Mercure Gobelins including my last stay in February 2011. This is a charming hotel located in a courtyard, not far from place d'Italie. The hotel is very quiete and you can't hear a single noise at night thanks to its location, hidden behind a courtyard. The breakfast has recently been upgraded and includes organic food...

The service and quality was generally good. The room was clean and tidy. The wifi was free but a bit slow. The breakfast buffet was good. There are plenty of good value restaurants in the area, and the metro is fairly close.

First time in Paris, with such a terrible first experience. Myself and my boyfriend unforutnately were pickpocketed in the Metro by 4 school wearing gypsy girls aged between 12-14 who robbed us of all cash+cards and even had the cheek to hand us back our passports, only after arriving in Paris half hour. Please please anyone going to Paris be...

Chosen as it was on half price room. Turned out to be a pleasant hotel which was extremely quiet as it is built off a courtyard. The staff were always helpful but once there were obviously not enough on duty as front desk was empty for 10 mins in the evening. . Very good transport connections to central Paris. A...

My husband and I stayed at this lovely hotel for 3 nights on our first ever overseas trip. We had paid extra money to have a view of the Eiffel Tower and boy what a view we got. Our room was the only one in the hotel with a balony. It was the most amazing view and well worth the...

We traveled around France and Italy last summer (2009). This was our first stop. We took the RER and the metro from the airport. The metro station is very close. There are tons of restaurants around and most people speak English. We arrived in the morning, so our room wasn’t ready. The hotel still was able to give us the...

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The room was very basic and my husband thinks it was the worst bed he slept in the entire 6 week trip. That said it was modern and clean and the breakfast was rather good and we had a view of the Eiffel Tower from our room. The hotel is closely located...

Staying in Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique

Neighbourhood Profile
Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique
Far off the beaten path, this part of Paris is a forgotten gem worth exploring. Avenue d’Ivry houses Europe's largest Chinatown with great Asian supermarkets and shops, and a thrilling atmosphere around Chinese New Year. Place d’Italie impresses onlookers as soon as they set their eyes on it. Not far, around La Butte aux Cailles, the streets suddenly imitate provincial France and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported. The beauty of these streets lies in their surprises around every twist and turn.
