Our stay in Hotel Des Gouverneurs was just amazing! The location of hotel and view from our room was sooo beautiful. The staff made us feel very comfortable, we did make friends :) The decor is very cool and we enjoyed swimming and sauna. We really look forward to stay here, whenever we happen to visit Bastia in future. Thank you guys!!
Nice hotel, we were staying there for one night (two rooms) but my credit card was charged twice... ((( prepayment during check-in and ”afterpayment”. Moreover the second payment was charged after we left the hotel. extra 311euro is too much. thank you!
Its not easily accessible and you have to park in a public car park about 5 mins walk away with a slight uphill walk. Bastia is all hills and you have to have some stamina if you want to see the sights. The hotel has a lovely aspect overlooking the harbour (where all the restaurants are) but the older you are, be aware that its a long uphill walk back after a night out. The staff are a little stand-offish and need to be smartened up, not only in how they dress, but also how they respond to guests. The Manageress is very helpful but needs to work on her staff. We were refused a night cap in the bar after 11pm by the barman and the concierge didn't help. When we asked the Manageress the next day she said the bar was open to guests ! Tell that to the Barman. The room was clean, large and comfortable and met all our expectations. Breakfast was more than adequate. On our last night the small restaurant area and balcony overlooking the port was closed to hotel guests in favour of a private function, which went on into the hours of the morning. It wasn't a pleasant feeling to once again to come back to the hotel for a for a nightcap and be unable to enjoy one again. Overall, we would recommend this hotel bearing in mind the hills and the need to upgrade the Staff's attitudes.…
I think the challenges experienced trying to access this hotel make it even more exclusive and fun. As it is in the ancient Citadel of Bastia, there is no car access. When you get dropped off you have to navigate a maze of streets. It is worth it all because the hotel is absolutely lovely. The staff are welcoming and the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable. It is not over the top fancy at all, just really refined and comfortable. The views are fabulous!
We stayed at this hotel for the first five nights we visited Corsica. Despite some initial challenges communicating via email (and needing to extend our stay by two nights due to the BA strike), we absolutely loved it. The room was sea view with balcony. Stayed in a suite the first night as there were no other rooms. It was not worth the extra 150 Euros. Our real room however was amazing and worth every penny. You can’t drive up to the hotel - no cars allowed in Citadel district - but the taxis can get very close. Restaurants nearby are excellent. Breakfast good, but not worth the price. There’s a SPAR a five minute walk away - eat there. Can’t say enough great things about the staff - especially Morgane and Luc. Super helpful and friendly. Their English is great.
