I stayed here for the first time in 2009 and marvelled at the decadent food and the sparkling powerhouse that was Madam Loiseau. To top it all, I remember watching children playing in the pool thinking how refreshingly wonderful it was that a hotel of this calibre was actively enticing children and families to their establishment. I made a mental note, that when I had my own family I would return. Fast forward ten years, with two children in tow, and thats exactly what I did. Sadly this stay was not quite as successful. We had two interconnecting rooms, which were very basic and small. I appreciate that can be French style but in this instance they really needed renovating. The children had room service but there was no space at all to eat it. We enjoyed dinner but service was slow and food was nowhere near as good as it was some ten years ago. All in all our stay was a disappointment. Staff were not on the ball and we actually left feeling like we weren't welcome. Sadly I cannot recommend.

Best hotel I ever been to, they have everything. The room, incredible. The garden just beautiful. They have a indoor- and outsidepool. And the Spa was just amazing. Next to that they have much things for children, like a biljarttable and footballtable. It is expensive but it was worth it. The service was a bit slow and the breakfast wasn’t that good. But the rest was the best. I would recommend it. Thanks and have a good day. (The cocktails were to expensive, make them cheaper!)

We arrived later than we had wanted, and tired, after a long drive from Amsterdam. The reception staff were speedy and helpful, and we were shown by a chatty and knowledgeable man to our room. It was old-fashioned chic, with everything thought of and in the right place. The view into the garden was as beautiful lit up at night as it was on a late autumn morning. We were fortunate to have booked through Secret Escapes - particularly given the very substantial prices of the wines - that dinner was included in the package. It was a gentle, flavoursome collation of tastes, some over-fussy for our taste, but all put together with care and attention to detail. Breakfast was a buffet, with everything you would want. Saulieu itself is off the beaten track, but we would certainly recommend the hotel: Il vaut le voyage!

This is a beautiful hotel. But the reception staff does not reflect the quality of a five star hotel. We've rarely stayed in any hotel where the reception staff is next to useless for restaurant and activity recommendations. Based on what we consider to be indifferent service, we cannot recommend this hotel. We couldn't even get a corkscrew to open a bottle of wine, except after a couple of requests one was brought up from reception, but we were not allowed to keep it in our room. Just one example of lack of attention to customer needs.
