We stayed for three days at La Flambee and were thoroughly charmed. Our room was simple but nice, but the selling point is the really nice location and the garden surrounding the hotel. Here you can meet the charming hen visiting you while you take your aperitive, you met the occasional baby deer walking by, and meet with the pigs and piglets in their generous compound. The swimming pool, surrounded by well-kept trees and hedges, invites for a relaxing swim. Last but not least we found the staff very charming and helpful.

We were recommended this restaurant, which we booked for our 1st evening on holiday having traveled all day. When we arrived on time we were told the restaurant was not ready and to have a drink outside. We were forgotten. After half an hour when I went inside there were people in the restaurant seated and eating. They did apologise and let us have the drinks on the house but we decided we didn’t want to stay so I would say better communication is needed by staff but can not fairly comment on the restaurant, which certainly looked good

We have just returned from a week at La Flambee near Bergerac. We were a bit wary after reading some of the reports. We are so glad we went, the location of the hotel is 3Km from Bergerac centre It is a beautiful building and grounds with a wonderful swimming pool and lounging areas. As soon as you arrive you feel relaxed as the hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, and makes you slow down. The owners are lovely and very helpful. They work incredibly long hours but always made time to make us feel welcome or to give advice on locations to visit. We stayed in room 1 which was large, clean and well maintained. The smell of the wisteria and jasmine was fantastic all around the property. Beds were made up every day and the room was spotless. Unfortunately (not the hotels fault) but we arrived during the heatwave and it got up to 44 degrees during the day. Even with the enormous fan provided, it was very hot. We left the windows open at night and were very surprised to find that there were no mosquitoes, so it was nice to wake up with no bites. The TV had several English channels with films in English throughout the day, which was nice when we were sheltering from the sun. We only had breakfast once as we were out and about with friends most of the time and it was good. We had several meals in the evening and the hotel is noted throughout the area for it’s food. We were not disappointed. The food and wine were excellent and very reasonably priced. The waiting staff were lovely and very keen to help. We did not feel (as we have in other areas of France) that we British were a nuisance but were made feel welcome. Well done to the owners and all the staff (seen and behind the scenes). We had a wonderful holiday and would not hesitate to go back to La Flambee.

Had it not been for the greeting received at Reception, I would have gladly given this a 5 star rating. The restaurant staff and food served was exceptional. Unfortunately the gruff and quite frankly offhand, greeting that I received from the male receptionist ( owner ? .... glasses ?) was just about as bad as you can get. I will say no more, but it only takes a second to loose all respect and never want to return to an establishment again, This is one such case.

The Restaurant/hotel is located at the outskirts of Bergerac, so it's convenient to take your car. There is a park with free running goats and losts of parking spaces. The interior is refined with two convenient halls with fireplaces and sufficient distance between tables. In addition there is pavillon with a nice view upon a more than 100-year-old cedar tree. The kitchen offers menus for 19€,30,35,40 and 45€. What do you get for 19€? A 3-course menu, 1/4 wine and coffee all included in the price. On top of that: a textile table cloth with textile napkins, a marvellous choice: 6 diffrent entrées, 5 main dishes and 5 desserts! I opted for Samoussa, Aile de raie and a Verrine façon Charlotte à la gauloise, sauce chocolat. It sounds (and tastes!) much better in French, than any English translation could convey a faint idea of those treats. When I ordered a fish dish at 'La Trompette' in Hammersmith, London, they did not automatically Exchange the normal cutlery to the fish version and even refused to Exchange it upon my request! Can my English rfeaders believe such an 'affrontt'? At La Flambée the exchange was done automatically when the main dish was served! And then the dessert! Very elaborate and refreshing. We used the 1/4 wine that was included in the price of 19€ as 'apéritif' and then proceeded to a very nice Bergerac blanc ((Château des Eyssards) at 22€. With a coupe de Champagne for our Lady friend at 9€ the bill added up to exactly 107€ for 4 persons. There is no better place in Bergerac - and we've tried out many of them - where one can enjoy perfect surroundings, refined French cuisine that is actually more worth than what the bill tells you! Well, it was not the first time we've been there. And when we came back, Patrick, the owner, even remembered and greeted my by my name! Now, what more can anyone expect of 'La douce France'?
