We needed a cheap hotel near Wigan to spend the night before a sporting event the following morning. The Rivington Lodge came up on the search engine for £30 so we booked. It is very easy to find as it's just off the M61 so getting there wasn't a problem. Upon arrival we saw a sign instructing us to check...

Room very dirty no mattress or pillow protectors, the mattress was badly stained, so where the pillows. Bathroom filthy, first job was to but bleach and disinfectant and to clean the room. I travelled from John O Groats a 9 hour drive to visit my daughter in hospital, so no time for changing hotels. First room I was given was...

I had to bring in some spray air freshener from the car, but the smell of damp was so so strong in this awful ex-travelodge hotel for it to be effective. Very old and tired, but the damp is unacceptable even for one night. I find it offensive that the owners think it's acceptable to put humans in such conditions....

DO NOT STAY HERE! Booked for two nights had to leave the next morning as the hotel was so dirty. Bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years, was damp and mouldy. Beds were stained, no mattress protectors. No enough sheets or pillows, got told you had to report any problems within the first 30 minutes off arriving. Very...

This is the second time I've stayed here. It is near family so handy as a place to sleep to stop over crowding my ageing parents. And it is fine for that - and very cheap - a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than any alternative I could find for 10 days. The room this time was better than the...

I have stayed here twice - more fool me - it was just convenient. I now find myself being HOUNDED by Parking Eye for parking at the Lodge where I was staying. Seriously !!! This is appalling. I have contacted the Lodge and asked them to sort it out and been ignored. Do NOT stay here. Terrible service , persecuted...

Came here in June for an event happening at the arena. Price was cheap as chips but the room reflected that, at first I was sure I was going to be murdered in it. I wouldn't have a shower but despite how it looked (dated and shabby) it was clean, had tea and a kettle, towels soaps extra loo roll...

Arrived to sign telling us to book in at shop. Our room had been given to someone else. They gave us another room which was dirty, the sofa bed mattress was dirty and stained, the toilet seat had no lid, we only had 2 towels for four of us and one cup. As there wasn't a reception we didn't know...

We had a couple of rooms at short notice and this hotel location came up in a Google search. The hotel is at a motorway service station, and the price is at the economy end of the scale, with accommodations to match. We felt like we had just about the appropriate level of cleanliness and facilities level in the room....

Couldn't work out how to get our key when we got there as there is no reception, but someone staying there informed us that we had to go to the shop at the nearby service to get the keycard to the room ... we discovered there was a small notice giving this information on the door to the lodge but...
