The photo of the Sunday roast looks delicious.... But it is certainly NOT WHAT YOU GET. so don't be fooled. No stuffing, no red cabbage or sliced beans. All you get is Potatoes, two Yorkshires, slice of beef and Carrott Cauliflower and Peas and everything was COLD. I have screenshot what they have used, but unfortunately I didn't get what I worked hard to pay for. I'm disappointed and still angry as I didnt address it enough and neither did The owner she was totally oblivious to the golf balls she bought out for me to eat and I would have been embarrassed to serve. AVOID THE ROAST!! WHAT YOU SEE BELOW CERTAINLY IS NOT WHAT YOU GET! BURNT OFFERINGS! What happened to Mr Grundies of old where the food was hot, plenty of it, plates were hot and the cutlery and table was squeaky clean and a roast was a proper roast..!! and you came away Happy and full... A thumbs down from me!!…
Our room was above a very noisy pizzeria. That banged crashed and shouted to each other until 11pm. Very grubby, dust everywhere. Bed so noisy, we put the mattress on the floor. In order to get some sleep. I felt the place needs a good clean, if not a bit of a makeover. Old doesn't need to be dirty. Cup used and tray coffee stained from previous residents. Carpet needed a good hoover or even a shampooing. TV remote so dirty, I didn't want to touch it. Only itv available when I did. Nice hot shower though clean sheets, towels and toilet. Best part was the tree in the garden.
We managed to secure a last minute stay at the Georgian House Hotel this weekend. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. The building is beautful with a really quirky mix of decor, original wood paneling, sweeping grand staircase and narrow corridors we didn't sample pizza cooked in the hotel's pizzeria or the breakfast. The room standard was good. We shared a family room with a four poster bed and twin beds, clean bathroom and ok shower. Overall, it's a cool place only a short walk from town centre, on site parking and lots of amenities.
I thought I’d try this place as a change whilst working in derby and I wish I hadn’t bothered. The pictures they use on the various booking sites bear no relation to the reality- the rooms are tiny and the very uncomfortable bed takes over the room. The whole place desperately needs some money spending on it - it does seem to appeal to a certain sort of clientele, something which is perhaps best highlighted by the notice on the (tiny) bathroom wall which asks guests not to dispose of their condoms down the toilet. There are far better places to stay - I couldn’t get out fast enough.
We had a marvellous stay and chose it as it was a historical hotel that had fortunately not been decimated inside with modern decor and furnishings; we were not disappointed! My partner and I stay in UK hotels around 10 to 12 times a year and we have frequently paid twice as much and not had such fantastic service from staff, they are truly outstanding! Friendly, polite and above all genuine. We chose not to have our room serviced during our three night stay but nevertheless, each day a fresh supply of towels, coffee, shampoo etc were left outside our room. Every single member of staff we encountered went above and beyond; nothing was too much trouble. Our room, 12, was beautiful and at the back so no road noise at all. Super comfy bed, everything clean and furnished exactly to our taste. This is reputedly one of the haunted room and whilst no apparitions manifested, there were a few odd things such as sockets being switched off and a saucer seemingly disappearing. We ate both at Pizza Pony and Mr. Grundy's, both downstairs. Fantastic food and wonderful, friendly service. The pizzas are out of this world. I had 3 and I'm not normally a huge pizza fan. As vegetarians we found ample choice. I can not praise the hotel, the room and the staff enough. We have already booked another stay for next month!…
A brilliant stay, with friendly staff, a clean room and good beer. Don't come expecting a Premier inn, it's a 1700s building and no it's not got air con or a lift but what it has got is history and character. I always judge a stay on would I stay there again or recommend a stay to friends, Yes I would. Thanks to the staff for a good stay.
We stayed here for one night, i paid extra for a 4 poster room. Because of other reviews i was thinking this would be a good stay, unfortunately it wasn't. We had came to meet my son and daughter in law who is about to study at Derby uni and this was a short walk from where they live. I'll start with the good points: One of the staff members seemed friendly, the location is an easy walk to the town. The general decor and furnishes are nice in the public main areas and the bed although very squeaky was nice in our room. Bad points: Staff seemed unclear that we had already paid as we used booking.com (we had paid and they realised eventually). My partner opened the cupboard in the room and there was a left over bag of chips in there, we also found a hair bobble and clip left from previous residents. Our room backed onto the pizza restaurant. Literally, and this meant the room had no window as the window opened into the restaurant, it also meant it was not very private and we could hear people talking outside our room by the window, the room has wooden shutters which we closed but this meant no natural light and the room is very dark. The fact this room looked into the restaurant and looked over a couple of tables was not clear at all on the booking and i assumed especially as i paid a bit extra that we would have privacy, it was not relaxing laying on the bed watching people through the restaurant. The shower did not have hot water, it was a basic shower with two dials on, we tried everything and still no hot water although the sink had hot water. This meant both of us had to have a cold shower. There was a smell of stale smoke in the bathroom. At night the room was hot, obviously we could not open the window as this backed onto the restaurant and therefore people could have seen into the room, this meant it was too hot to sleep well and we had no privacy. Wifi did not work for me atall during our stay, my partners phone was up and down when using this. The next morning we went to ask about breakfast and staff were surprised and asked if we had booked a time - we were not asked to book a time on arrival even though our invoice clearly stated we paid for breakfast, however the staff were quick to make sure we had breakfast and resolved this, customer service at this point was good. Overall we are disappointed as from reading previous reviews thought we'd found a good place to regularly stay in when visiting my son and daughter in law, however sadly we won't return here due to the uncleanliness, the non-functioning shower, the fact the room is not private unless you decide to stay in the dark and have no air and even then you would be easily heard as diners are sitting outside your window. Such a shame as the building itself seems nice.…
Very pleasant hotel and pub and very convenient for the city centre and the surrounding student areas (this was a trip to visit youngest kid at the Uni). We went for one of the 4 poster rooms and found it to be extremely clean with a comfortable bed. The bar downstairs is friendly with quick service (at the table in these Covid times) with a good choice of drinks . The décor is eccentric - in a good way and really adds to the overall feel of the place. . We had a great evening - and despite it being Halloween the hotel ghost did not disturb us!
Friendly informative and helpful staff, spacious clean room, kingsize bed, with ensuite (in mews rooms) good breakfast. Very close to Minster, Shambles just 6 minutes walk. Good choice of pubs close by. Would stay again.
From the moment we spoke to Karen to reserve the room for June’s wake we were filled with confidence especially in the current climate. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff to organise our wishes for the loss of a very special lady. On the day social distancing and hygiene was strictly observed by staff and guests. We were very impressed with table service by all of the lovely staff . The rooms were set out beautifully and the food ....... well what can I say it was amazing and booked for 30 people however, could of fed 100 thank you to the chef for his hard work and Karen for being so caring on this special day . We would definitely recommend this venue to anyone for any occasion. Thank you again to all of the staff who made this day so special in memory of June xx
