Got some energy to burn?
Staff are great, heavily over worked to a degree reminded me of slavery. Only two members of staff manning the reception, bar and very busy breakfast area all morning. Poor equipment. Toaster stopped working because it was over heated and we had to wait 10 min for it to cool. . You can only have slightly toasted or burned.. nothing in between. A 10 pounds toaster would have sorted out the problem. Orange juice is soo pale from the amount of added water. There are many other examples. If the management could say give us your money and don't bother us by turning up, they would. To this end, it is not a surprise that they are getting no applicants for their advertised jobs.
The HI Express Derby Pride Park is the standard Hi Express, cheap and cheerful with a great breakfast included. There was however a negative aspect of our stay. We stayed on a Saturday night in a room overlooking the front of the hotel. Over the way is a restaurant cum bar that plays loud music till late which is audible in the room and can (did for us) prevent getting to sleep. We put up with it till just after 1am when we spoke to the night Porter. To be fair he offered to move us, but at that time we didn’t feel like packing up and moving, plus he said it probably wouldn’t last much longer - wrong - 4am🥺🥺. So, the moral of the story, if you’re there on a Saturday night, don’t get a room overlooking the front of the hotel.
I recently stayed in this hotel for one night with my partner. It was one of the worst stays I have had an I am a travel agent so have travelled a lot. They gave us a twin room when we requested a double room. They said there was no doubles available but online it clearly stated there was. We requested more towels to the room but was told to go down and collect them. The bed sheet was not fitted properly, the TV buttons did not work and the room had very dim lighting. I would NOT stay again.
This was a one night stay, which was as expected. WHEN we found it. Sadly for us and from what we gathered the SAT NAV is incorrect. Asking directions, nobody could help, phoned the hotel and given correct directions. Thirty minutes later we arrived. Charming and apologetic reception. Lovely clean room and bathroom. The menu was not terribly large, but acceptable for our needs. Breakfast usual standard, albeit it COLD as buffets normally are. Would we stay again, definitely. JUST change that SAT NAV please.
Wonderful experience made pleasant by a friendly front of house staff Theresa , couldn’t do enough to make our stay enjoyable, many thanks and would use again if I found myself in the area and needing a hotel at short notice
