Detailed Reviews
I booked a basic room (queen bed, private bathroom) for three nights at the last minute on a Friday as the weather was going to be terrible for camping. It had a window overlooking the bay, but the view from the common area living room with its massive picture windows is even more incredible. The room was very comfortable with soap, shampoo and fluffy bath towels provided. The B&B was quiet, with only a couple other guests each night (likely a factor of the time of year since I was told generally along the western coast of the province tourism begins to slow in late August). The owner was very nice and the woman who made breakfast each morning took my allergies into account, providing separate condiments to help avoid any cross contamination. Overall, I would highly recommended this B&B if you’d like a comfortable, affordable place to stay while you visit L’Anse Aux Meadows (only a short drive from there) or St. Anthony.

This B&B has a beautiful location with a fabulous view from the common room, balcony, and the king bed suite. Hostess is friendly and the breakfast delicious with a variety of home made jams. However, the mattress was very worn, we could feel the springs under us. There are two negative factors that the hostess has little control over: 1. internet was very unstable and even cable TV was unstable. 2. Tap water was brown and there was a boil order. A small amount of filtered drinking water was provided, but bottled water should have been provided. We didn't feel comfortable showering in that water. We noticed that all over town the water was a problem.

Kids loved this place as much as the adults - stayed in 2-bed room, clean with private bathroom. Beautiful views from deck and gorgeous shore, and excellent breakfasts with unique jams from the region. We enjoyed meeting others and didn't find it too noisy (our room was next to dining area). We were close to L'Anse aux Meadows and great food in St. Lunaire. We highly recommend Hillsview B&B to other families and couples seeking a charming and memorable stay in the area!

Older home located near the water with a great view of the harbour.
Convenient large sitting room on main floor with balcony for guests.
Rooms with ensuite baths were upstairs, a bit small and dated.
Ida and Tina were excellent hosts. Hot Breakfasts were simple and down home.

Wonderful B&B with beautiful view of Gunners Cove.
Got a great welcome from Ina, when we arried and the warm- and friendly ness continued during our 3 night stay from everyone.
Breakfast was delicious every day. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.

Let me start by saying that we had a very poor experience in this place. In my mind, a business is measured by their ability to provide customer service when things don’t go well and this B&B failed measurably. The day before we arrived we realized that the area is going to be hit by the tail-end of a hurricane approaching from the Caribbean. Since we didn’t want to get stuck in the storm we called the agency that helped us book this place and asked to cancel the second day. We were told that 24hr notice is not acceptable. We accepted that but we felt we were treated very poorly from then on. It was already raining very badly the day we checked-in. My daughter slipped on the wet floor and fell right at the entrance. The host couldn’t care less about my daughter’s safety as she was busy ensuring that my husband understands that we will be charged fully for the second night even if we leave. After check-in we realized that our family was split between the lower and upper level. We have asked them to place us on the same level so we can be together. Even though this B&B, which has about 8 rooms was all empty, we were told they cannot accommodate this request. We realized that no one can control the weather however, knowing that tourists who come to this place to experience the scenery have no wish to be stuck in the hurricane, a little consideration or any attempt to make the situation better would have been in place. The next day, we woke up to winds gusting to 95km and pouring rain. Water was entering the premises from the deck. We left right after breakfast. The host seemed very happy to see us leave. We were not satisfied customers and we were very happy to leave this place as we had a very poor experience.

Stayed at Hillsview for 2 nights. It was a clean B&B in a renovated older home. Here's what I thought:
LOCATION: Very close to L'Anse Aux Meadows and about a 20 min drive to St. Anthony. It is not in a town though, so you would definitely need a vehicle to access any stores, etc. It is a quiet location on a bay.
HOUSE: Older house renovated about 10 years ago into a B&B. Nothing too special about the home itself, but it was definitely clean/tidy. There was a nice spot outside to sit and relax and just enjoy the calm - but it was too cold when we were there in mid-June to stay out very much.
ROOM: Our room was a double bed with ensuite. I believe all rooms have ensuites and there are Queens, Doubles, and one room with two beds. The ensuite was nice and they provided a hair dryer, nice towels, etc. The bed was comfortable and had a beautiful homemade quilt.
NOISE: We did find it quite noisy. The other people that were staying in the house (a group of 5) while we were there we not very considerate about the amount of noise they were making VERY early in the morning (before 7 am). We could hear there entire conversation from downstairs in our room. Being woken up wasn't a pleasant experience, however it was the other guests and not the b&b at fault.
BREAKFAST: Nothing fancy but a good hot breakfast. One morning was bacon & eggs and the other morning was French toast with fried bologna (not my thing but a common breakfast item in some parts of Canada). There was also a selection of cereal and porage for those that wanted a lighter option. Homemade jams were available for your toast. Coffee was good (and there were plenty for refills). Orange and apple juice also.
ABOUT MOOSE: Yes there are many moose in this part of the province. We went driving at dusk looking for them and we saw over 30 in about an hour. They are not as dangerous/scary as some people make it out to sound. They generally stay on the sides of the road eating and as long as you drive at a reduced speed and keep your eyes open you shouldn't have an issue - its not like your vehicle is going to be charged by a moose. We drove slower at night but locals were passing us all the time driving regular speed.
OVERALL: We didn't have any major complaints. It's not the best B&B we stayed at in Nfld. but still a good option.

We loved the set up of this B&B and the innkeepers and staff were wonderful - helpful, kind and welcoming. The breakfast was good both days we stayed there as well with a hot option as well as cereal and muffins. The building was being worked on when we were there and the new areas are going to have beautiful views of the water. The B&B is very close to L’anse aux Meadows and St. Anthony which was convenient for us. Our only issue was the noise. We were in rooms 1 and 2 which are on the lower level right next to the breakfast area. We could hear our son cough in the next room and well as every footstep of the person above us. In addition, we could hear the entire conversations of the people at breakfast - which one morning started at 6 a.m. They should consider a door between the breakfast room and the bedrooms. Just make sure to request an upstairs room! As noted in another review, our cell coverage was limited here and at sometimes non existent - but the WiFi worked fine.

Lovely, friendly B&B with a great view of the active harbour. Staff was friendly, food was good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It was walking distance to the brew pub and a local restaurant. Within a short car ride were great views and hikes around the Longpoint lighthouse in Crow Head.

Hillsview B&B is about 7km from L'Anse aux Meadows and the national historic site of the Viking habitation (earliest European settlement in North America), but there is much more to see in the area, including the charming town of St. Anthony. At the right time of year, whales and icebergs abound! Hillsview provides nicely setup rooms and an excellent hot breakfast. It is slightly off the highway and has good views of the forest and adjacent bay - I'm told moose occasionally transit the property.
