Came to this hotel for our annual Christmas night away. Disappointing experience as this was our Christmas gift to each other. Our room was old & shabby looking. Carpets stained and ripped. The safe kept beeping because the batteries were dead. The room was like an ice box! We complained to reception. We were told the heating takes 15 minutes to warm up. We waited for over an hour with our coats on & it never heated. On contacting reception, they offered another room. (We had to walk down to reception to get the key). Second room also freezing!! The telephone in the room was not working and the fan in the bathroom made a loud noise. We had to call reception on my mobile. They offered a room on the other side of the hotel at this stage. (Had to come down again to reception for next key). Receptionist had a bit of an attitude, leaning on her elbow on the counter & drawing doodles on a notepad as she attended to us. The third room was much nicer & did heat up (although there was a used face mask left in one in the lockers). We were two hours trying to sort out rooms and wait for heating, with no time to relax, shower or change before our dinner reservation. The positives about this hotel are that the staff in the spa & restaurant were lovely; the treatments we had were great; the food was lovely and the lobby was decorated nicely.

Stayed here in this hotel for 3 nights Room 518 When checking in I found the front desk staff Sabrina and Heather very friendly and greeted us with a nice smile and explained everything in detail about our room lobby bar and restaurant. I found our room on the fifth floor to be very spacious and comfortable , to my surprised some complementary chocolates and fruits as left in our room. This to me was a lovely gesture from the management of the hotel. We had dinner in the restaurant two of the nights plus 3 breakfast I found the food excellent plus the breakfast and the staff was very friendly and helpful I have to mention Tony who was friendly and attentive .I want to especially, mention your manager Michael Halpin he was excellent and pleasant and made sure that we where happy with the dinner and breakfast , no complaints whatsoever Thank you Michael. We had bar food plus a few drinks during the day and we had and a lovely gentleman called Billy Farrell serving us. He was a jovial man with a great sense of humour Thank you Billy for looking after us and allowing me to watch my favourite soccer team on TV I meet the GM Joe while checking out I told him to pass on my sincere thanks in relation to his staff I dealt with during our stay and he assured me he would. I almost forgotten about the chamber maids on my floor they were local girls and again very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed our stay and if it wasn’t for the friendly staff and their help I would not have enjoyed myself as much. my wife Ethel would like to pass on her thanks as well. I will return soon.

Had a lovely 2 night staycation here. Couldn't fault anything, we were greeted well on arrival. Room was lovely, spacious fresh and modern. Breakfast by room service on the first morning was wepl presented. The 2nd morning we went down and again was perfect. Bar food was really great and again staff all so pleasant. I would happily return again! There is an underground car park which is free for residents of the hotel. This hotel is a very safe place taking into consideration the covid-19 requirements.

My wife, our 4 year old daughter and I stayed here last saturday night. We arrived at the hotel a little earlier than planned and we were very impressed by first impressions. We made our way to the reception desk where we were greeted by Roisin, Very helpful and very friendly. We weren't supposed to check in until 4pm but there was no issue with an early check-in on that day thankfully. Roisin informed us of all of our dining options and so forth, then we made our way to our room. The room was very nice! Extremely clean and we even moved one of the beds to add some security to the bed our daughter was sleeping in and underneath was immaculate! We chose the bar for dinner and being honest, the food was ok. Toast for the pate was probably made the day before. However when we said it to staff, the toast was replaced immediately. Generally speaking, as bar food standards go, it was fine. Staff were amazing! We retired to our room, and shortly after I went back to the bar to order 2 drinks. Sadly, this is where my experience dulled a little, and not through any fault of the hotel or staff. I waited at the bar entrance for Malcolm (whom we met earlier, Incredibly nice guy) and there was a guy who walked staright past ignoring all the signs to wait to be seated. He walked over to the bar and Malcolm asked him, in a very polite way, to wait at the entrance and he would be with him in a minute. This guy was not happy! He walked back towards me loudly saying " HA Would you mind waiting at the entrance " shaking his head. Malcolm arrived back and asked what I would like as i was first in the queue and ordered my drinks from the bar. The loud mouth guy was getting more and more irate, Malcolm asked him what he would like, the guy asked for his drinks without a please or a thank you. Malcolm tried to hand the guy his table number on a piece of paper showing his sit down time (COVID restrictions) and pointed him in the direction of his table but the guy didnt take it. The guy turned with a grunt and walked off in a completely differnet direction. Malcolm followed him and said "Sir your table is over here, please take this" and the guy SNAPPED the piece of paper from Malcolm, grunted again and walked off! Throughout this Malcolm showed abosolute professionalism, courtesy and respect for the customer depite how the customer was treating him. At the end of the day, Malcolm and the staff are simply trying to do a very difficult job in the current covid restrictions and they absolutely do not deserve to be treated in the way i witnessed. I am ashamed to think that anyone could treat someone like that. We also would like to add the Duty Manager Tony, was very helpful with any issues or queries we had and looked after us the next day at breakfast very well. All of the staff we met are an absolute credit to the hotel. Overall, we are very happy with our stay at Clayton Whites Hotel and we will be going back.
