Glasson Lakehouse offers picturesque views and a rustic, quirky atmosphere that guests consistently adore, complete with unique decor and charming touches. The spacious and well-designed rooms are generally appreciated, although noise levels and maintenance issues have been points of concern for some.
While the hotel boasts commendable cleanliness and highly regarded amenities such as an outdoor heated pool and scenic grounds, service has received mixed reviews, and many feel the value doesn't quite match the pricing. Disappointing dining experiences and occasional service lapses in this beautiful setting have also been noted.

Detailed Reviews
I stayed here at the start of July with my boyfriend, 2 young children and my parents (my mum is a wheelchair user). We stayed for 2 nights.
This hotel is in a beautiful location, and driving up to the hotel gave us amazing views of the golf course and Lough Ree. The kids were very excited to see boats on the lough!
Check in was smooth and quick, with all the information being given and keys being handed over quickly. The lady on reception was friendly and welcoming.
We made our way to our family room, which was sealed and cleaned, and opened the door to a large window with a view of the lough (the kids were amazed at this!). There were two double beds and one single bed. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower, and two sinks. The room was clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. In fact the kids both jumped straight into theirs!
We had dinner in the hotel on the first night. We were treated like royalty, staff were extremely attentive to us. Kids meals were offered and were of a high quality. The food was of a very high standard and the staff worked well at attending to us without being overbearing.
The family room had plenty of relaxing space which meant that we could end the night catching up in the room while the kids slept.
We went for a walk around the grounds, and the views were just spectacular.
The next day we travelled to Dublin Zoo, and had a great day there. We had breakfast before we left, and this was amazing. The kids had full breakfasts and probably ate more than they would have in a full day! My personal favourite was the French toast- sublime! We ended up not needing to eat until dinner time as we were still full from breakfast!
We got back to the hotel and relaxed in the room, this is definitely a great shout for chill out breaks.
A side note for wheelchair users- my mum uses a chair fulltime. She was nervous about travelling to a hotel as she finds that she sometimes feels like she is in the way, or if the facilities don't work for her that she won't be able to sleep/eat/wash. I want to reassure anyone with mobility issues that this hotel is perfect. There is a ramp to access reception and accessible rooms on the ground floor. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom had a roll-in shower with a seat. The toilet was perhaps a little lower than expected, but there were drop handles to help with movement.
A special mention to the gentleman in the restaurant with the moustache and the manager Sean. Both these men made my Mum and Dad feel so special. Sean took the time to stop and ask each time if everything was to our liking and never passed us without speaking.
Checkout was quick and painless and when we asked for a later checkout time, this was given without any issues.
We would definitely stay here again, the kids said they didn't want to leave. Ever.

Stayed in the hotel end of last week. Food was great. we had lunch, which was really tasty- good chicken wings and excellent club sandwich!
We had a 3 course dinner in the restaurant and again the food was excellent. Mussels were good size for a starting, steak cooked well and the chocolate brownie was unreal. Breakfast was to order rather than a buffet in line with Covid guidelines.
Some discreet but impactful changes with covid. The hotel is clearly making good efforts to make guests feel comfortable, with signs, face coverings and hand sanitizer everywhere along with good spacing between tables as well. The room was also spotless with a great view of the lake and golf course. We also enjoyed the views playing out on the course.
Have to also mention the hotel gym. Best hotel gym I’ve seen, trendy and good equipment. The staff throughout our stay were helpful especially Sean who couldn’t have done more for us. Sean was very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay.
There is some work being done in the hotel and outside but doesn’t disturb your stay at all. It’s also exciting to see what is to come for this place. Definitely will be back again. Great for couples and groups of golf friends!

Back from a one night break in the newly renovated (renovations on going) and funky lakeside hotel, throughly enjoyed. Rooms were clean, bright, modern and spacious, and a lovely view across the lake. Added touch’s of a “munchie” box, mini Smeg fridge and a record player really added to the enjoyment. Bathrooms a little dated possibly from the original hotel, I imagine there Is upgrades coming down the line.
Staff are friendly and courteous.
Dining options are limited, breakfast, lunch and dinner all served from the same indoor outlet, not an issue on a one night stay but may get repetitive for long stay guests. Food was executed well although menu was limited, (I’d prefer to eat well prepared food from a limited menu than poor food from a vast menu, so it didn’t spoil the stay) the limited menu can be put down to short staff, working in the industry I understand the struggles for staff and having just reopened teething problems will arise, I expect the dining options to become more elaborate, once they find their feet… (soon I hope).
2 shiny airstream trailers sat outside kitted out serving food. (closed midweek). A small bar is located in the hotel but unfortunately isn’t open, again this can be put down to limited staff. The service and drinks options in Bonnies excuses this issue.
The outdoor pool was broken on the evening we arrived, this didn’t spoil the trip as the hot tubs made up for the loss, although a little sympathy from reception for the inconvenience would have been appreciated as we had booked the pool.
A large amount of construction workers and vehicles around the hotel but can be excused as the renovations are ongoing and the plans sound amazing.
Our room was located near to the golf course on the ground floor, a perfect location until 6.30am when we were woken by the green keeper driving around the course on a tractor, we can’t put this down to teething problems as common sense should prevail!!!
We have booked to return, meaning an enjoyable stay.
Looking forward to next time!

Myself and a group of friends booked this hotel through their official website with the missing moments package. First of all there is some serious misleading pictures of the hotel, they show beautifully renovated rooms and we were put in a basic groggy room which they do not show on their website, which I’m sure we paid the exact same price as the people with the newly renovated rooms.
The package was supposed to include a Prosecco reception, which we didn’t get and had to ask for (and they went on include it on the bill which we had to have removed). It was supposed to include a gift in our rooms, which we did not get. It also included a 3 course dinner, breakfast and drink tokens which we also had to ask for.
The hotel showcases 3 outdoor hot tubs which was one of the main reasons we booked the hotel. We tried to book one in advance but were told it was first come first serve, and when we arrived (at regular check in time) we were informed they were all booked out - much to our disappointment. Our hotel room was directly located at the hot tubs and at any given time we saw there was only 1 hot tub used, or none at all for at least an hour if not more.
The hotel itself will be lovely, in time, but right now is incomplete. The grounds were a building site in places. I think the hotel should have notified the guests about this upon booking it or upon arrival. The main entrance, the restaurant, and the outdoor bar are beautiful. The service was pretty bad though throughout, on numerous occasions being given wrong drinks bills, or told items were unavailable or snapped at by a bar man for asking for a glass of ice in a tumbler glass. I will say the young waiters/waitresses were very nice and done their utmost best to accommodate. Though it was difficult to know who was working there and who was a guest as some seemed to wear a black uniform yet others were in normal clothes carrying a tray.
I believe in time this hotel will be beautiful once the building work is complete and they have the time to refine their service. Until then I feel they should be more open and upfront about the unfinished building work, the basic un-renovated and overpriced bedrooms and the hot tub situation. It seems the new rooms and use of hot tubs is provided to insta influencers and bloggers to draw a crowd.

I felt after our stay I must take the time to let you know how we got on at the lakehouse. We as a couple were really looking forward to a little something special and just take time out to unwind . Our experience left us very underwhelmed so here are my thoughts we paid our bill of 560 euro today for a one night stay with dinner, breakfast and some drinks we decided to treat ourselves to a suite . On arrival 3.45pm the room was not ready so we waited and went back to reception at 5.15pm to find out the room was still not down to be cleaned at 5.45 pm to get access to the room . We then could not unpack due to no hangers in the room. The fire in the room was a selling feature for us but this was not working. The shower water temp was on the very cooler side of warm. The phone to call reception did not work even after replacement. All in all I came here to not have a care in the world but instead had to make my way down to reception on a number of occasions to say things were not as they should be. Hospitality has struggled due to covid and staffing in the sector is tough. But I must say all the above are very basic things to have missed and for that my experience on the stay and how I feel leaving has been very poor. Service was poor, cutlery was stained, we waited for breakfast for it to arrive potatoes slightly under cooked and we got tea with no milk overall it was just that we had to continue to ask for things we feel should have been available.

The decor in this hotel is the funkiest I’ve seen with lots of cool touches in the rooms (SMEG fridge, hair straightener, cool little snacks). The beds were very comfortable and the room we stayed in was so quiet during the night, despite the fact that a hen party were also booked in.
The food was tasty for breakfast and dinner and Tom’s bar served us amazing cocktails on our first night there, with a superbly efficient bar man from Liverpool.
I’m taking off a star unfortunately for the service (the Liverpudlian being the exception). Each time we ate or drank in Bonnie’s, we had to ask for water for the table, clean cutlery and a reminder of the coffees we had ordered. We were served a lukewarm breakfast, which to be fair, was removed and rectified immediately, when we could get someone’s attention. The lady and gentlemen who seated us were both very efficient but generally, the waiting staff were forgetful, slow and inattentive.
It really didn’t affect our stay as we didn’t have to be anywhere but for the price, it could be improved.
As a previous reviewer, I do believe that the hot tubs should be complimentary to paying guests and also, maybe add some hooks into the bathrooms to hang the wet towels or robes.
Gorgeous setting, beautiful rooms and we had a fabulous time but a few minor tweaks and training of staff required.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in April, I had looked forward to it for weeks as their pictures and reviews looked amazing I was sure we'd have an amazing time, closer to the time I attempted to call to book the outdoor jacuzzi as thats the main reason we chose this place for my birthday, they don't accept phone bookings and I was unable to book online as it seemed full already I was assures on the phone that wasn't that case and to wait closer to the time again, tried the day before still the same, upon arrival was told I could go on the cancellation list but no cancellations came i was so disappointed with this as you'd think there would be more than 3 if they are so popular. The website advertises ofther things like a cinema which wasn't open. The hotel itself from the outside and inside was beautiful and I was still excited it seems all made of wood, with very stylish chic decor, it was very very busy as we checked in and the girls at the desk were very nice, when we got to the room it was huge with a stunning view out the window there was a huge bath and a huge bed with a well stocked mini bar and snack bar. The bath seemed to be leaking as as soon as anyone go in it water came out under it not from being too full which I could understand but from somewhere we couldn't see. We went into athlone town for dinner as menu a little too fancy for our tastes, upon coming back we ordered a drink in the bar i ordered a pornstar and it wasn't anything like a pornstar, very sour and eggy. We had a terrible nights sleep to put it politely i think as alot of things are made of wood thats why you could hear every creek and footstep as well as noise from the hen party staying across the hall, cleaners started vacuuming very early, our room was right next to the glass walled gym too not to mention there was alot of construction work happening which seemed to kick off at 6am we were cranky and exhausted the next morning, we attempted to use the outdoor pool in the morning but only stayed for a few minutes, sadly I was glad to get on the road home and the whole experience just felt like a let down, I don't like to leave a review such as this, maybe it was just busier than I imagined but its not on my list of places to return to.

Hi MeliaMegan, Thank you for your review. It's great to hear you liked our stylish chic décor, spacious guest rooms and our friendly Reception team! Our outdoor tubs have proven to be very popular with our guests. We do recommend our guests to book these in advance, however if that's not possible we also operate a cancellation list to try our very best to allow our guests to enjoy the experience. It disappointing to hear your nights stay wasn't as pleasant as usual and we will be sure to share your experience with the team. Thank you, The Glasson Lakehouse Team

I stayed with a couple of friends for two nights for a girls getaway over the weekend.
It was a fabulous break! The welcoming atmosphere and decor in the lobby was so cosy, I could have sat there for hours.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We loved the selection in the mini bar, the goodies and the record player. A few points to note in this area were that there were three of us staying in a family room, but there were only two of each item - towels, mugs, glasses, robes/slippers. However, we asked at reception the next morning, and within minutes, the attentive housekeeping staff had dropped the missing items to us.
Secondly, in the bathroom, the body wash was attached to the wall beside the sink and couldn't be brought into the shower. We thought it was strange to only have shampoo and conditioner in the shower.
We loved the food in Bonnie's restaurant. Breakfast on both mornings was fabulous. The restaurant was busy on both mornings as there were two weddings on, but that didn't take away from the service or quality. We also went for dinner on Saturday night which we thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the menu selection. The only disappointment was when checking in, we were offered a very limited selection of times for breakfast. We were not told in advance that we needed to book breakfast.
With regards booking in advance, we had also tried to book the spa a month in advance and were disappointed to discover it was fully booked. Perhaps this was due to all the weddings.
We used the heated pool, the hot tub and rented bikes while we were there. The pool and hot tubs are amazing. The view from the hotel overlooking the lakes is stunning.
Overall, we all agreed we would happily stay in Glasson Lakehouse again. However, if you're looking for a quiet break away, do not stay on a weekend.

Hi Catriona S, Thank you for your review. I am delighted to hear that you had a fabulous break enjoying our welcoming atmosphere and our cosy decor in the lobby. If I could I'd only give 1.5 stars and here is why.
Stayed Sunday 10.10.21 to Wed 13.10.21
Got told we staying in the newly refurbished room ..ok.. but 3 noticeable holes in the wall under the tv, only 1 coffee pod awaiting anyone who did want to try the coffee machine, small minor issue but its the detail for the end result on how the guest will feel and remember the stay as well as the place
First night got woken by a fire alarm going off somewhere between 5.30-6am. Alarm lasted about a minute then stopped. Made my way to reception only to find another couple who like me had been hoping to meet someone for information, a few minutes past and then an employee did come out saying false alarm just a faulty sensore as he made his way past us to go investigate. Nothing more was said or done so simply went back to our rooms.
On their website they had mentioned that there is a bit of renovations going on between 9am-5pm, unfortunately this is false as everymorning from 7am this would start. There was hammering coming from above and next door amongst other noises. Mentioned this (and fire alarm night) to staff at check out and simply brushed aside.
The view of the lake from the restaurant has been ruined by having the pool placed right outside the windows on eye level as well as the 2 steel food trucks (wow burger & elephant and castle) which also take position to be looked apon. So if you are wanting to admire the awesome view that there is on offer from a comfortable seat I suggest not expecting to do it from the restaurant but rather go outside or take a walk.
Staff who are dressed very casual are the same in their approach to service (cleaning of room) and the rest.
The saving grace for the hotel and why I'd only offer 1.5 stars for the overall stay is the comfort of the bed, the size of our room and the shower.
Would I recommend, no not at the moment until all renovations have been completed and more training to staff is done. If there are no changes going forward bar the look of the place .. then no I would not, not for the price they are charging for the end result.

We have stayed here a few times before and it gets better and better with each stay. This time we had our puppy with us and was great to be able to bring him. The views and location of this hotel is just stunning. You can walk down to the jetty by the lake where there was a gorgeous row boat which makes for some lovely pictures. The food was incredible the best we have had in all the times we have been down. We had lunch sitting outside with our puppy and then dinner in the restaurant that night. My fiance got the lamb and I got the buttered chicken can honestly say it was one of the best meals we have ever had. The desert menu was limited but what we had was very nice. The staff were all incredibly friendly, helpful and lovely to chat too. Yes there are building works going on but nothing to have ruined our stay or the views and there was no noise that woke us up or anything. We are very excited to see the finished result of the building work and its also great to see the work and changes that are going on in the hotel. We were due to get married in May but due to Covid we have pushed it out to next July. We cannot wait to finally get married here and for all our friends and family to see how brilliant it is. Gareth especially has been amazing through the whole wedding process and obviously during the craziness of Covid re arranging our plans we cannot fault the help and care he has shown us and nothing is ever too much.
To be very picky the only negative we have to say is we stayed on a Monday so nothing seemed to be available to us. As the weather was nice we wanted to make the most of all the new little added extras such as the row boats or the picnic basket or renting a golf cart but none of this was available at the time. Also we ordered our breakfast to the room but we didnt receive everything we had ordered and somethings were missing and other things were mixed up. It was really nice however and it was a minor issue.
Thanks again for a great stay
