Nestled in a prime location, the Fitzwilton Hotel is lauded by many for its easy access to transit and local attractions. While the service has garnered both compliments for its cordial staff and criticism for occasional lapses, guests have called out the hotel's pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.
The renovated bathrooms and comfortable beds in the otherwise clean rooms receive praise, though opinions on room amenities and décor are mixed. Despite some remarks about temperature control and noise, the value for money and quality food are popular highlights among travelers.

Detailed Reviews
I have been in Fitzwilton Dublin Stephen's Green 4 star property so expected same standard in it's Waterford property.
Hotel is located on Bridge street which is central to Waterford Quays & city location for parking the car and walking on foot. Parking is limited, first day on arrival was lucky to get parking in car park but not second night, street parking 5 mins away.
We checked in didn't feel a very warm welcome upon arrival, was handed a sheet to fill out personal details and we were asked for our breakfast times as bookings now required for Covid19 but yet these were not on the list when we came down at the specified time for breakfast each morning.
We were handed a sheet to read with Covid19 rules but it should have been specified that no housekeeping will enter rooms unless you request to have your room serviced (which we found out next day upon our return at 9pm).
We were located on 2nd level Rm 212 quiet a walk through fire doors all closed, heavy to push through especially for my mother so should be buzzers to open. At the lift on 2nd floor a sauna as small area with the vending machine and the heat from the overhead lighting /vending machine generated too much heat.
Our room had a double and twin was nice decor, newly refurbished and very clean. We had no issue with our room except that at 5:30am on the second night I was woken to the trundling of linen/laundry trolleys from hotel through car park which was located at rear which our room was facing (Rm 212).
Breakfast was functional and clean, everything is prepacked (bread, fruit, cereal, pepper/salt, sugar no dispensers for sanitary reasons), fruit and yogurt and cooked breakfast buffet option.
Occupancy was busier on the second morning (Friday) with more families so get down early if you want a quieter dining experience. Upon arrival our room number was not on the appointed time give to reception so communication breakdown needs to be rectified.
Other point we asked for directions to Mount Congreve Gardens and the receptionist had the brochure but no maps so for tourists that are not Irish/English speaking familiar with the road signs and in the absence of the Tourist office being closed - should have some local knowledge to provide tourists.
Would not rate it as a 4 Star experience and for €270 for 2 nights would expect a higher standard of service. Dining staff were friendly and courteous, nicely presented but reception needs to be more polished and communicative.
Covid19 hand sanitisers are located at reception with visible signage.

Hi Caroline, thank you for your review of your recent stay with us which I am sorry to see you found as only average. Juts to note, the Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin is in no way affiliated with the Fitzwilton. I am very sorry to see you did not feel welcomed at reception and also that your breakfast times were not recorded as requested. The info sheet you were handed on check in does state that your room will not be serviced unless you request and so I am sorry you missed that point. I am pleased to read you enjoyed your room and also our breakfast offering. With regards to maps and brochures on display, we have to reduce the number of touch points and items that can be touched or shared and as such, removed all our brochures and such from public display. I will be more than happy to pass your kind words to our wonderful dining team. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience at the Fitzwilton Hotel. Kind Regards, Geoff Dawson General Manager

Easy to find but not easy to get parked in the hotel’s free but woefully small car park. A pleasant looking foyer & reception area. Checking in was quick & friendly with info on Wi Fi, breakfast times, checking out etc & with our room key card in hand, we were quickly in the lift & on the way up to our non smoking, double room.
Not a huge room but clean & bright with a carpet floor & everything that we needed for our one night stay – double bed, wall mounted tv, tea/coffee, iron & ironing board, safe, small table & 2 chairs, bedside lockers, closet, a few spare electrical sockets, smoke alarm, desk/dresser & chair. Wi Fi was free, easy to connect to & fast. A large window allowed in a lot of natural light. No issues with noise from inside the hotel but the window had to be kept closed to ensure there was no noise from outside of the hotel.
The bathroom was clean, fully tiled & spacious enough with a bath, over bath shower head & hose on rail with good pressure & plenty of hot water, toiletries, mirror, towels & hairdryer.
We went for breakfast at 09.15 & managed to get one of the 2 or 3 tables that were still available. Buffet breakfast with full fry, cereals, toast, croissants, pastries, cold meats, fresh whole fruits, fruit slices, yoghurt, fruit juices, tea & coffee. There was also a gluten free selection.
There are vending machines with snacks, soft drinks & water. Complimentary national newspapers were available.
Check out was up to 12.00.
Not quite in the very centre but well located within easy walking distance of the train & bus stations, Reginald’s Tower, city centre shops, restaurants etc.

I booked this hotel for its central location and beautiful pictures on website. we stayed for 2 nights and were quite disappointed, it was very basic and did not live up to its images on website. I can't see how it is a 4 star hotel.
when we arrived the receptionist barely said hello or even offered us a welcome. instead she checked us in with few pleasantries, told us it was no smoking throughout and handed me a leaflet about covid policies and told me to read it. having been closed for several months, I was expecting a warmer welcome.
the room was fine, and nice and quiet but with a very grim view facing directly into an apartment complex. a light wasn't working, which in fairness was fixed straight away, toilet bowl was cracked. just little things you wouldn't expect given hotel had just reopened. beds were very hard with cheap pillows. only one pp, due to covid. we asked for more and they were given. I was surprised that there was no cleaning service due to covid, for example the hotel is still operating a buffet breakfast, with ample opportunity for people to touch the same spoons etc. with three of us in a room for 2 nights I did need to ask that the one tiny bin in the bath be emptied and that we could have fresh towels. the maid was lovely and did this.
probably the most disappointing thing for me, after the poor check in was the breakfast. breakfast staff were lovely but quality and choice of food wasn't great. there was a hot buffet which was just ok. v limited selection of cereals, fresh fruit and yogurts, sub par for a 4 star hotel.
I liked the hotel location but I wouldn't stay here again.

Hello and thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to see your stay was not to your satisfaction. Firstly I apologise that you were not received with a warm welcome on your arrival to the Fitzwilton Hotel which is not acceptable on our part. There is a cleaning service in operation which would have been explained on the Covid info leaflet you were handed on check in. Regarding the operating of the buffet and the touching of spoons/ladles. As you would have clearly seen at the buffet, all ladles, handles and high touch points are covered in a microbial film which kills 99.9% of bacteria upon touch. This film is also on door handles, elevator buttons, hand rails and such throughout the property and is well documented what its use is in public areas. Regarding breakfast, we have had to slightly, but only slightly reduce our breakfast offering but still offer a full hot selection and gluten free, cereals, breads and fruit & juices section. I am sorry once more your stay was not more enjoyable on this occasion. Kind Regards, Geoff Dawson General Manager

Myself, my partner and my 2 year old stayed in the hotel from 01.08 to 04.08.. This was our first holiday as a family. Upon our arrival we were shocked at how small and tight the car park was, I was glad I wasn't driving! My partner managed to squeeze us into a spot. We got out of the car and began to unload our luggage, luckily we left our toddler in his car seat as when my partner looked on the ground my partner spotted a used needle close to our parking space. We weren't happy about it and quote shocked. We carried our toddler and luggage into the hotel, we were early and knew our room wouldnt be ready. I was greeted by a very nice man on reception, he told me we were a bit early but told us we could go to the restaurant and have a meal while waiting on our room. We were delighted as we were starving. The food came out quickly and it was delicious, a waitress with braids in her hair served us and was very kind with my little boy. A receptionist came to tellus our room was ready and I mentioned the used needle to her and that it's quite dangerous with little kids around, she was appauled and said she'd have it cleaned up straight away. We went up to the 4th floor to a spotless spacious room with a big telly. We had to book our breakfast for the next morning, we picked between 7-8am when it would be most quiet for our little boy who has special needs. The breakfast was self service and was very tasty. I explained to the receptionist that my little boy likes a slice of toast at around 10.00am before his morning nap and would it be possible to grab a slice at this time even though we had already gotten breakfast and this was no issue whatsoever which was great. The food in the restaurant was so delicious that we ended up having dinner there each day of our stay. One of the evenings we were in our room and my little lad was a little peckish but it was coming close to bedtime, so I called down for room service for just a little portion of chips for him to nibble on. The food was brought up super quick with no room service charge which was extremely kind! Overall our stay was brilliant and was a fantastic first holiday for my little boy. The staff and so friendly and helpful I couldn't fault them. Room to improve - obviously because of covid there is no cleaning of rooms during your stay however we got a bit panicked with nappies and had to ring reception each time we wanted them taken, maybe a daily knock on the door at a certain time for rubbish would be good? Also when we were leaving, the car park being as tight as can be was frustrating enough but in top of that a big truck collecting linen had blocked most of the one way road out of the carpark and left only millimetres to get out with cars parked at the other side - again I was thankful I wasn't driving! Maybe a better loading bay could be found? Overall we will definitely come back and recommend to anyone visiting Waterford.

Great Hotrel; in the city centre, near all amenities. Decided that we would dine in the hotel both nights; food was excellent and really good value, second night service was a bit slower, but the managemdent made up for it later. Once you had bought food at any time during the day, you could have a drink at night. All covid regulations are well adhered to, room servicing is fully explained as are the breakfast times when checking in. Rooms are spacious and modern, Would definitely stay at the Fitzwilton again. Very friendly staff

Hello Max, I am delighted to read you enjoyed your recent stay with us. I will pass your very kind comments to the kitchen team as they are always happy to hear how our customers enjoyed their dining experience. Apologies if service was a little slower than usual but our staff also need to socially distance and as such, we have fewer staff servicing the food outlets than we would under normal circumstances. thank you for sharing your experience at the Fitzwilton Hotel with us and for your kind words about our wonderful team. We hope to see you again soon. Kind Regards, Geoff Dawson General Manager

I visited on Friday 18.12 with my wife and Daughter. We stayed in Room 219. The room was a big let down. It had a tag on the door saying the room had been cleaned for us but when we went in there was someone's old socks under the desk. The ledge above the bed was covered in dust and the bloody pillows were awful. The bathroom was a disaster. The sink has a plug in it that opens and closes with a lever. It was not working and it was in the closed position. I had to pry it open with a tea spoon. Secondly the toilet was broken and once you flushed it , it kept refilling itself without stopping. I had to open the top of the cistern three times during the night to stop the water constantly running. The temperature control on the shower was very hard to turn down and the hose was leaking. For a four star hotel that has not been closed during Covid it was really poor. The Staff (especially a young girl called Jessica) were fantastic and the food was great. The breakfast was brilliant. I spoke with Elaine the duty manager the following morning and when I explained our night she apologized and told me she would take it up with housekeeping. No mention of a refund or a token for our inconvenience, nothing just a sorry and goodbye. I stayed here a few years ago and the place was brilliant but it has gone downhill in my view now.

Just back from a wonderful week-end in the Fitzwilton my third time to stay and it gets better every time The food and service in the Bar was Excellent the Breakfast buffet was well organized at Hourly intervals plenty of choice all Covid precautions observed by the management
The rooms were spotless not serviced unless requested but towels were replaced by the pleasant housekeeping staff when asked. From Check-in to Departure all staff were very courteous and helpful The Hotel is very central for a visit to Waterford 10 Minutes walk to shopping area. I hope they keep the one hour time slots for Breakfast it was a good idea and saves Queue and delays at the buffet breakfast

Myself and a friend booked the Fitzwilton for a one-night stay as a base for our Waterford adventures; the Greenway cycle, beach swim at Dunmore East and hiking at Mahon Falls.
On hindsight, Dungarvan may have been a better location for our trip but that’s neither here nor there when it comes to the hotel review. I simply cannot fault the Fitzwilton for standard and service. Trish checked us in upon arrival and was so helpful in answering my, frankly silly, questions. We had dinner in the hotel which was prepared quickly (which usually is a sign of sub-par food), and was delicious. Fine big portions too!
Breakfast was also great, albeit a little awkward having to request items from staff such as hot drinks, juice, non-dairy milk, etc. I can’t imagine how much the serving staff’s workload has multiplied, but they were so pleasant throughout.
What struck me as unusual was that there was still a buffet element to breakfast whereby you grab a plate and fill it with hot food from the covered platters. We all handled the same tongs/ladles. The loose fruit was all bagged individually in plastic bags, which for me trying to be more environmentally conscious, seemed unnecessary, as one can handle the “naked” fruit as easily as handling a plastic bag containing said fruit.
All in all a great stay, room was lovely, beds comfortable, shower is DIVINE.

+1
We stayed on the 11th of June and had a lovely time. We paid a bit extra for the penthouse suite and it was amazing for the price. I was being quoted the same price for very basic rooms on other hotels all around the country so it was brilliant value. Lunch in the bar was lovely and every member of staff we met were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also really nice, a good mix of self serve and table service to make it as covid compliant as possible. Literally cannot fault the place or the value.
