Detailed Reviews
Stayed recently at the Viking Hotel. I could not praise this hotel enough from the minute we arrived we were greeted by a friendly front office team led by annmarie our dinner and breakfast bookings made efficiently. Our rooms were large spacious but most of all spotless sanitizers everywhere all staff wearing masks and instantly made us feel safe but also like we were at home. We dined both nights in the restaurant food was delicious and service was excellent special mention for chloe and Italian gentleman can't remember his name but he was most entertaining but to be fair all the staff were amazing. Thanks so much for the great service and will definitely be back again. Keep up the good work.

We stayed here on Saturday night. I had previously rang ahead to say that we would be late checking in as we had a family function to attend. I received a phone call back to say that they can upgrade my room from a triple room to a family room, at no extra expense, as this would suit my needs better and can be located in a quiet part of the hotel as we have a 4 yr old staying with us.
We checked in at 11pm Saturday evening, no hassle at all. Our room was lovely and spacious. Plenty of space for all 3 of us.
We had a fantastic sleep and went for breakfast the next morning.
There was a great selection of food available for breakfast, from hot and cold sections.
We were delighted with our stay, all the staff we engaged with were friendly and inviting, we will happily return.

From the moment we arrived we experienced the best of Irish hospitality and professionalism. The restrictions caused by Covid-19 have changed the way hotels operate. And it is clear there is a lot of on the job learning happening.
My room was comfy, if very warm. The dining arrangements were set up very well. Diners were set at a good distance and everything organised for safe as well as enjoyable dining. Top marks Viking staff.
Mistakes were made, but most of our meals over the course of our stay were delicious. I particularly recommend the salmon. Breakfast cereals were not on the menu but readily available if requested. Throughout, staff were helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. This hotel deserves to thrive.

Firstly I have to say this is a lovely hotel. The reception staff are very friendly on arrival giving you all the information needed. Housekeeping are very helpful especially when their jobs are made harder by not being able to clean your room daily due to Covid. Anything you needed they supplied immediately. Now for the really disappointing part to this whole stay, THE DINING OMG what a shambles. We went down to have 1 drink (thankfully that was all) we met the man at the entrance to the bar/restaurant who seated us. He said he would bring us a drinks menu to view but he never showed up with it. After 10 minutes we asked one of the young waitresses could we have one. She gave us one but yet again we never saw her again. The man who showed us to the table came over to us after definitely 20 minutes waiting and said did you get drinks. We said NO still waiting to be served. He then took our order after apologizing. My friend ordered a bulmers and I order a passion fruit Martini. He got his first but I had another wait for mine and when I eventually got it dear Jesus it was SHOCKING. It came in a wine glass and looked like it was thrown together (see picture) and cost €9. Overall it took nearly 40 mins to get 1 drink but less than 2 mins for them to come over with our bill. From my observation firstly where was the manager, why are staff not allocated designated areas instead of being all over the place and definitely training needs to be given or refreshed. I understand we are in a pandemic but Jesus I couldn’t believe how badly that bar/restaurant was ran no organization whatsoever. Unfortunately this service is what’s going to let this lovely hotel down. Hence why we didn’t eat or drink here for the rest of our stay. But like I said the rest of our stay was lovely and I would return but might just bring my own drink/food with me.

Hi Noelle, thankyou for taking the time to review the Viking Hotel Waterford on Tripadvisor, your lovely kind comments about our lovely hotel and the team are much appreciated. As you pointed out we have experienced some issues with the required staffing levels and with new staff joining our training has been difficult. Please accepts my sincerest apology for the service when you arrived into the bar at approx 9.30/10pm, that night we had just finished an extremely busy dinner service and were delayed turning back to normal bar service. We did learn from that night and hope that when you visit us again we will redeem ourselves with the best cocktail ever complimentary. Contact our front office team directly they will allocate you a similar room to enjoy with a reduced rate as a token of our appreciation. Kind regard Karen Dollery General Manager

We stayed at the Viking for 6 nights recently and it was just perfect for our needs. Located on the Cork Road and very close to the ring road. The city centre, motorway and Greenway are just a short drive away. The room was clean and comfortable. Our room was not cleaned the first day but reception brought us clean towels within minutes of us asking for some. There was plenty of hand sanitiser available in the reception area and by the restaurant.
Breakfast was very good with a reasonable selection available despite the restrictions due to COVID19. We also had lunch in the hotel on a few occasions again with a reasonable selection available.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. I don't usually like to single out any member of staff because it's not fair to staff that we had little contact with but one waitress in particular stood out above the rest. Ewelina was exceptional. She went way above and beyond what was expected to help make our dining experience a very enjoyable one.
We will definitely return to the Viking Hotel again even if it's only to visit the restaurant.

Myself and my wife has just returned from a 2 night break in the Viking Hotel and it was a most enjoyable experience. The staff are all very friendly, especially Ann Marie on front desk (first impressions are crucial). The rooms are comfy and of a good size with all the usual facilities. The breakfast was also excellent with the chef more than willing to oblige with an off menu request. We also ate dinner in the bar for the 2 nights and again we found the food delicious with a good size menu to chose from.
We cycled the Waterford Greenway which is approx 90K round trip and the Hotel location is ideal for this as it is only a short cycle to the starting point .The hotel also has a safe and secure lock up for bikes and Waterford city itself is either a short bus ride away or an enjoyable walk.
Overall we had a great experience here and would gladly recommend it to anyone, I know we'll certainly return.

Hello Swordscouple, Thank you for taking the time to review the Viking Hotel following your stay in July, its great to read that you enjoyed your time with us and your 5star recommendation is very much appreciated. I have passed on your kind comments to everyone here and your special mention of Ann Marie is deserved she really is an asset to the hotel and we are very lucky to have her working with us. The Waterford Greenway is on our doorstep and the 'Hub' - our bike shed, was a project undertaken by the team here to provide a safe, secure and child friendly lockup area for bikes and it has been a great success. We look forward to meeting you again soon, please call us directly to make your next reservation and we will ensure to allocate you a similar room and return guest rate as a token of our appreciation. I stayed at the Viking Hotel for two nights last week using their 'Greenway' Package. This is the first hotel that I've ever known to actively promote cycling as part of a recreational visit. I'm not saying they don't exist at other locations around the country, I just haven't seen any. My stay included 2 nights B&B, 1 evening meal, a pack lunch on the day of cycling and secure bike storage. Anyone who is a keen cyclist like myself will not be particularly interested in luxury hotels. I'm happy with a clean room, a comfortable bed, hot showers, decent food and a working tv. All of these factors were present during my stay. The breakfast and evening meal menus were perhaps a little limited but had enough choice to keep me happy. The chicken wings were especially delicious. The breakfast menu was quite good and fuelled me up for the long cycle ahead.
The picnic/pack lunch given to me is well thought out. By the end of the first leg of my cycle I was craving fluids to rehydrate. The lunch had fruit pieces in juice, a yoghurt, a carton of orange juice an apple and an orange. The sandwich was made up of Chicken and Ham on brown bread. Enough to give me the energy for the return leg from Dungarvan to Waterford. I only stopped once to buy some isotonic drinks from a shop in Kilmacthomas.
The Viking Hotel is ideally located on the edge of the city in an industrial area. Access to the hotel is easy by car as it is on the outer ring road and close to the motorways. For cyclists, there is a wide cycle path immediately outside the hotel and this runs directly to the Greenway Carpark where the cycle path to Dungarvan begins. Its all so easy. There is also a Halfords store across from the hotel for any last minute cycling needs.
I enjoyed my stay at the Viking Hotel and I would recommend it for anyone. The hotel was quiet at night and I slept well on both nights. The only minor complaint that I had was that there was an extractor fan outside my window which fortunately turned off at approx 11p,m. Other than that I have no complaints.
I would hope to see other hotels around the country offer the same deals for cyclists if t here is a greenway near by.

Hello Chris, thank you for taking the time to write such a detail account of your visit to Waterford, in 2017 the team decided the shed should become 'the hub' to look after the increasing visitors to the Waterford Greenway and this initiative has really paid off. 'The Hub' is a secure space which gives peace of mind to our guests and our packed lunches always go down a treat. On your next adventure please contact us directly and we will ensure your room allocation is suitable and you get a return guest rate to enjoy. We look forward to meeting you again at some point in the future. Kind regards Karen

Excellent value, staff really lovely
We stead on the 3rd story with our toddler, heat of room unbearable but not hotels fault as we are having a heat wave atm, and we couldn't open window incase toddler went near it so room isn't child Friendly , didn't ask to be moved as I think the hotel was booked out.
Food very basic, husband ordered the special , burger , but when he got it , it looked like a child's portion basic dinner tbh, breakfast nice but sausages cold and potatocubes looked over done but when we bit into them, they were raw, think maybe chefs lack a little creativity but the waiting staff were brilliant id have to say..
Reception really friendly and helpful, even the cleaning staff along the hallways always said hello and smiled.. I would stay here again as its very central to tramore and waterford city, hotel spotless but I would just ask for floor level =)
THANK YOU 😊 to this hotel for being 1 of the very few thats not ripping of people during this pandemic, thank you viking for not getting greedy like most other hotels around waterford when I was trying to book 0ur little staycation.

Booked this hotel last minute for an overnight work trip.
I booked online directly on their website and got a €5 discount (better than booking.com rate)
Nice welcome when I arrived and was given a voucher for a complimentary drink at the bar as I had booked directly, which was a nice touch.
Room was functional, clean, and perfect for an overnight work trip. One small improvement point is that I had to move the bed to charge my phone so more accessible plugs at the bed would be welcome.
Had dinner in the bar. Good food, friendly service from the really nice staff. Bar is really well decorated and would be perfect for having a few pints.
All covid procedures followed by staff, it was great to see one young staff member politely yet firmly ask a group to wear their masks as they walked around the bar area as they appeared completely unaware or bothered about the guidelines.
Check-out was straight forward and simple. Would stay again. Free parking.

Wy wife and daughter stayed at this hotel in the middle of August and were very impressed, but didn't realise at the time they had left an envelope with a substantial sum of money in the hotel room ,within a few hours the hotel contacted them regarding the money telling them it was found in the room and was waiting for them at reception
Honesty of this standard deserves to be commended as it is a rare quality.
I decided to stay at the hotel (myself and my wife a week or so later) and i must say that during these difficult times ,especially in the hospitality industry the staff were excellent in every way .The room was spacious and spotless, the food also excellent all this at great value for money

I agree and the bar food is excellent. There was a soccer match on while we were there and the background noise associated with it was hardly noticeable.
There is a bus stop outside Waterford Institute of Technology which is about a 10 minute walk away from the hotel. I think they run every 30 minutes or so.
