What a beautiful experience! The grounds are lovely, the castle is on a quiet island, with walking paths and trails. The rooms are quite beautiful and I love the casement windows that you can open. You can truly feel transported back centuries. I love staying here! And, of course, the staff was incredible.

While we did have a lovely evening meal in the restaurant (well done to the chef!) and the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, this was the only positive experience we had. We won't be going back! Let me explain... My husband and I spent one evening at Waterford Castle on the 15th of Nov. 23. We stayed in the Deluxe Rose Suite. The room was cold, the furniture was broken and the rugs were a trip hazard. The bed frame was broken (our heads were lower than our feet), every lampshade was tilted and broken, the sofa that we sat down on to watch tv had lost its padding years ago (I was sitting on a piece of timber that holds the frame together), some of the chairs looked like they had been pulled from a skip and the top of the drinks cabinet hadn't been dusted in months! And this was only the start! As I said, we did have a lovely evening meal in the restaurant (the food was lovely), but the restaurant itself was cold. After dinner we escaped to the bar, which was just as cold! Even the staff had layers on under their uniforms to keep them warm! The following morning we went for breakfast. We both ordered porridge and an irish breakfast. The porridge was fine, but the fry arrived cold! Sausages, bacon, mushrooms etc. all stone cold! The only part that had any warmth in it was the egg that was cooked how we had requested they be cooked (so they were freshly cooked just before sending out to us). I would never usually complain, but I couldn't eat it. It was just too cold. I told the waitress and sent it back. The food manager came out, apologised and offered me another fry. I politely refused. She kindly insisted that she could have some pancakes made fresh for me, so I accepted. When the pancakes arrived, there was a strange smell of of them (the only thing I could compare it too was vinegar!), they also tasted like vinegar. I thought this was unusual, but assumed it was a different recipe and ate as much as I could stomach. I left over half of it behind, along with the mouldy raspberries. I was unable to eat anything else for the remainder of the day as my stomach was unsettled. That evening I was violently sick! I had stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea! I was in agony with the stomach cramps for hours!!! I rang the hotel the next day to complain, and it is as result of the rude response from the 'group team leader' that has made me write this review! According to the 'team leader', despite agreeing with me in the phone call (the day after I got sick) that the pancakes should not have smelled or tasted of vinegar, as they are just regular pancakes. I was informed by email that Waterford Castle was not to blame for my sickness and that 'the issues I experienced did not originate at Waterford Castle'. I was also informed by email that they were not responsible for the condition of our suite. In her words 'if we had complained during our stay they would have rectified (so maybe straightened the rugs or dusted the shelves) or, moved us to another room'. Which I accept, we didn't complain at the time, but at the same time, this is not what is expected when you stay at a 4-star facility that costs a fortune! I was drawing her attention to the matter to try to ensure that no other guest has a similar experience, yet she seemed to fail to recognise this point and put the blame back on me. The email was rudely signed off by saying, 'we now deem the matter closed at our end' No apology. Just firmly laying the blame at my door! I have also noted since I logged on here, that this seems to be a pattern. If a guest has complained on here, they attack that person and blame them for the unpleasant stay or experience. Instead of taking on board the feedback provided and rectifying the issue so that another guest does not have the same experience. I had no intentions of going public with my experience but felt compelled to do so by the lack of empathy shown by the hotel. Due to the rude response from the hotel and lack of empathy for my illness, I would not recommend an overnight stay at Waterford Castle to anyone. Avoid at all costs! If you have a booking made, cancel it and stay in one of the much nicer hotels that Waterford has to offer (there are plenty in Waterford - Waterford is a great city!). Maybe one day they will take negative feedback as a valuable tool and learning opportunity, instead of attacking anyone who makes a complaint.

We are based in Australia and purchased a gift voucher for my Sister-in-law for a wedding gift for them to use whilst they are on their honeymoon in the UK. The wedding was in October, and when purchased there was no mention of a period of closure approaching. When she went to make a reservation she was told they are closed for their entire stay in Ireland. We have now spent the last month trying to find a resolution, they have been incredibly difficult to deal with, actually to just get a response out of.

My best friend and I had a wonderful experience at the Waterford Castle. When we decided to take a 40th birthday/30 years of friendship adventure to Ireland, we knew that we wanted to stay in as many castles or historically significant locations as possible. Waterford was on the list of our top choices and we were SO glad that we made it there. Our room was gorgeous, we really enjoyed the large salon, and the food was delicious. We were a little late to breakfast but we had the entire patio area to ourselves. They had local honey (on the comb) available, and the assortment of food items was fantastic. The grounds of the resort are gorgeous as well. We didn't get to see a kangaroo, but we had a lovely time exploring and trying to spot them. I especially enjoyed stumbling across the little museum/historical home on the grounds. We had stunning weather our entire trip (cool/light rain) but it was a bit muddy making my way around the grounds. I wouldn't have missed that little adventure just because of some mud.

We had the dream to stay in a castle. Our dream came true in the best way possible by choosing to stay at Waterford Castle Hotel. It was a real feel of luxury and castle experience. Amazing Christmas decorations. The staff was super friendly. We hope we had more days to stay there. It's a lifetime experience!

We visited for a two night stay with a family of 4. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly throughout. We felt comfortable and welcome. Room was lovely and in keeping with the Era. It is a castle hotel after all. The best part of our stay was the fabulous food though. We had two gorgeous dinners with beautifully balanced inventive dishes. Artfully presented and cooked to perfection. I would return happily for a comfortable stay or for another of their exceptional dinners.

Our family stayed for two nights. Elegant food in the Munster Room, plates presented with great flair, balanced flavours and textures. Kudos to the chefs. Friendly & helpful staff made it a memorable experience. Looking forward to returning.

We had an incredible experience from the start right through to departure after the wedding. Myself and my wife had decided we wanted a Christmas Castle wedding and visited several castles around the country but Waterford castle blew us away when we visited it. From the outside it was spectacular, and then when you entered the castle, the warm feeling from the decor, the fire and the staff made us feel far more at home than any previous castles. We met with Gillian the coordinator and she discussed various packages with us and showed us sample menus. We had a million and one questions for her and we got a sense from Gillian of her wealth of experience, her professionalism and confidence in your job which sold us. Over the build up to the wedding we were in a lot of communication with Gillian regarding the planning and she was incredibly supportive and helpful. We were aware of how good the food was because we stayed there a couple of times but it was lovely experiencing the menu tasting and meeting Marie the restaurant manager in advance. The big day finally came round. The castle looked so incredibly festive. The team worked together seamlessly. Interestingly, even though they do a huge amount of weddings, they didn’t make it feel like just another wedding they did, you felt incredibly special and spoilt by the team. Gillian had everything perfect, and was there if we needed anything or any advice. Marie the restaurant manager again was amazing insuring we ate straight after the ceremony and how she led the restaurant team throughout the meal. Antonio the manager took care of the everything in the evening perfectly. The team between the front desk, the bar staff, and the restaurant staff were just amazing with special mentions to Sally, Philipo and Michael. We have had several guests coming back to us saying how special the venue was and how incredible the food was. The steaks cooked perfectly to individuals liking and the monkfish being delicious! We had a simple day 2 in the golf club house with music and even the burgers and chips were delicious at that. I literally could not fault one thing with the whole experience, and I’m still excited looking back on the whole weekend! I couldn’t recommend Waterford castle enough!

Was visiting the Castle for a whiskey tasting with dinner and the experience was fantastic. From the decor to the staff and the food was all great. Next morning had breakfast made from items from local producers. Pure quality for sure. My only complaint would be €15 for 2 pints a bit expensive but with the location and history, I can live with that.

My husband I enjoyed our one night stay in the castle. Our room was charming. We enjoyed a walk around the property, before the rain set on. Our dinner was a complete delicious delight. We loved talking to servers. We felt like friends by the time our dinner was over. I did not expect to have a large dinner, because it was four courses, but I could not eat it all(which made my husband happy). Our meat was done to perfection. We then enjoyed some time in the beautiful bar room. The bartender was delightful and very informative. My husband enjoyed a flight of scotch. We learned much and he enjoyed his Scotch. He was even allowed to look at a very rare Scotch, over 1,000 euro a shot!! To end our too short stay, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. If we get back to Ireland , I would love to visit Water Castle again. Thank you for the hospitality, Margaret and John Harris Sherrills Ford, NC, USA
