I went there based on a recommendation. I enjoyed learning about the history of the castle, the interiors and the art on walls, the unique ferry crossing, walking around the perimeter of the island, the gardens. The golf course was a nice challenge also. The fine dining experience was lovely and the waiting staff were extremely efficient, calm, sociable, chatty (a couple of them, not all, but that's absolutely fine, some people are quiet, etc) and attentive. I got good recommendation for a refreshing beverage from one of them. I loved the Wall Room where I stayed within the castle itself. It was something like back in 19th century perhaps, so very authentic I think, but with 21st century creature comforts such as TV and coffee making facilities, etc. I had breakfast on both mornings and lunch also on one day. I had pizza with beer at the Golf Clubhouse restaurant on another evening and that was very nice too, outside, watching folks putting on the practice greens. The reception staff I met at check in and during the stay were very helpful and accommodating, helping me to set up a reservation for dinner one afternoon. Overall, I'd stay again.

A nice tranquil location, spoiled by below par management. I suffered from a number of issues during my stay and when I engaged with management I was offered move location or nothing (not easy with small children). When it came time to settle up, there was zero consideration for the issues encountered. What a pity as the location is good but I won't be back after the way I was treated

We had a recent family trip here and were very happy with the overall experience (1 night in the lodges) and 1 night in the castle. After such a long period without a weekend away we were really looking forward to this and there were no letdowns. The estate itself is magnificent and the beautiful weather helped. We dined 1 night in the Munster room restaurant and food was of a high standard. We found all staff to be helpful and courteous, especially at reception as we had only booked the lodge and then decided to stay an extra night for the full castle experience. I did find the hand sanitiser spooned from jam jars a little odd. Its not the place for a rowdy sing song type night away but we found the peace and tranquility was just what we. wanted

After waiting so long for a holiday, we had been looking forward to our luxurious stay at a castle and my daughter was beyond thrilled with the idea of it all. The grounds were lovely and the exterior cannot be faulted for photos but the room interiors were anything but luxury. We did find both hygiene and health and safety issues during our visit and were quite disappointed with the standard of the room given it is marketed as a luxury property (some pictures posted). 1 - housekeeping did not seem as thorough as expected during COVID: (no individually wrapped toiletries, layers of dust on radiator coverings, hand sanitizer in jam jars with a spoon to dig out…odd!) 2 - period furniture was tired, worn, uncomfortable, and room was generally tired looking (i.e., each window curtain was hanging off at ends with hooks visibly dangling…why?!?); period furnishing is one thing – old and worn furniture is another 3 - bed was exceptionally and painfully soft to the point of being rolled into the centre when laying down…needs replacing ASAP 4 - carpet was coming up in doorway causing a serious trip hazard 5 - management response to my feedback was aggressive, overly defensive, and no responsibility that they could improve or try harder; no apology for anything! 6 - my feedback was dismissed as ‘only opinion’ not seen as customer dissatisfaction with value for money (we prepaid!)…I was given excuses of limited notice of time to reopen by Govt so no general or regular maintenance could be done and they were under pressure to open the premise. Not sure why this was made to be my problem but their lack of readiness was seemingly my issue to deal with. Perhaps time constraints did hamper cleanliness and maintenance which could be understandable but why not state so at check-in or reflect that in the price? I’m sure the price we paid in peak summer was not a discounted rate. We were willing to overlook the fact that the furniture was ‘sympathetic to the castle’s age’ but there certainly could have been more effort made to bring it to a higher standard without a major refurbishment. We booked a 4 night stay, at €350/night for a deluxe suite (Rose Suite), at a 4-star luxury property. If we were in a budget hotel, things could have been dismissed but given the steep price, we expected (and paid) more so we decided to cut our holiday short and check out a day sooner. I did express the concerns I had with the Reception staff who were to speak to 'Management' about what, if anything, could be done. We asked on Thursday night to check out a day early as we were not happy to stay longer. I had hoped to speak to a Manager in person and go through the issues to resolve amicably . I was told she was unreachable, has my details, and would be in touch. After leaving on Friday morning, I did call the hotel several times that day and Saturday in hopes to speak to her and amicably resolve matters as we were looking to do a family stay in the lodges at Christmas. The Cust Serv Manager could not have been more dismissive or unsympathetic to my concerns; she clearly had no time for negative feedback and stated that ‘99% of the room’s previous occupants said nothing.’ I was being told my comments were simply opinions – which I agreed because what else are customer complaints in the hotel industry except for opinions and personal experiences? I frequently travel for work and am no stranger to hotels but have never experienced or heard of such poor customer service management. She did not want to listen to my concerns or feedback but rather defend her position and use the govt timeline constraints as an excuse for sub-standard accommodation. She took no ownership of any of the complaints and instead told me that because they were simply my opinions, and that she didn’t agree, nothing could be done. I was not asking for much but I would have at least expected some understanding, even a token apology, and perhaps a goodwill gesture since we did have a future stay booked. Her attitude gives not only the hotel industry a bad name but Irish hospitality too - most especially after the year we have all endured. It is sad that I had to write such a terrible review on a place and holiday that we so looked forward to having. Again, it is hard to understand how any patron's feedback at the end of a stay isn't a matter of opinion and personal experience – good or bad. After almost 40 minutes of debate, hostility, and an unwillingness to listen, a man suddenly started speaking and I had not been made aware anyone else was joining me on the call. It was very unprofessional and I thinks speaks to their lack of industry understanding and experience. I would not stay here again and could not recommend the property - not because the room was THAT bad but because the posture taken by management on feedback. They are not suited for hospitality or customer service and it is a shame to the staff working there.

We honeymooned at Waterford Castle and we simply could not have asked for more. Wonderful staff, delicious food, and spectacular scenery filled with lots of birds and plants to take in. Couldn't recommend more!
