We are frequent visitors to Waterford & enjoyed a lovely dinner previously at the Granville. This time it was a Saturday eve & the city was busy after the rugby match, we were a family of 5 & wanted a nice dinner without the drunk revellers... we hadn't booked anything so following a reminder by my mother about the Granville we took a chance & walked in hoping to get a seat. Although it was busy the staff went out of their way to accommodate us & before we knew it we were seated at a table beside a roaring fire.. with a wide & varied menu in our hands & my husband had a smile on his face as he enjoyed a tasty Guinness! The menu had plenty of options & an option of half portion of the roast for the kids for 10 euro... my teenage daughter loves roast beef so went for this option & it was a decent size, she loved the mashed potatoes, meat & veg with delicious gravy. I opted for the Turkey & ham & felt like it was Christmas all over again as the gravy & cranberry sauce came along too. I'm gluten intolerant & there were plenty of options for my needs. My 10 year old was a bit dubious about a chicken burger with lots of additional cheese & tomato so he requested a plain chicken burger & our lovely waitress Josephine reassured him she would make it to his choice. My husband had the rack of lamb with a few pints of Guiness & was very satisfied & my eldest daughter the fussy eater had chicken goujons with mashed potato's and shared a side of chips with her sister, I shared a delicious chocolate & beetroot brownie (gluten free) with my husband & Josephine recommended the chocolate cake from the kids menu for the kids, telling them it was delicious & a decent size... it was a really decent size for the kids menu & delicious! We enjoyed desert with a few pots of tea! The great experience was mainly due to Josephine's expertise.. although she was busy she took time to advise on the menu, to chat & had a lovely manner with the teens & my young lad. Along with this she helped us get best value from the menu & the general atmosphere in the hotel is one of warmth, homeliness, friendliness & quality. We felt well looked after & the best way to describe it is like old fashioned hotel care & attention which is hard to find these days.. you will know what I mean when you visit. We will be back again when we want a decent dinner, good service & old fashioned warm atmosphere.…
Had a mini break with 2 friends. Cant rate the hotel highly enough. Staff were just so nice & welcoming. The food was fabulous especially the breakfast (the porridge unreal). The hotel is in a great location. We travelled by train & it’s only a short walk to the hotel. Not forgetting Anne who won the Bar Manager of the year & I can see why. We will be back very soon. Thanks for a really lovely stay.
I booked a weekend in the Granville as a Christmas present for my husband. It was a fantastic weekend such a beautiful hotel we were upgraded to a balcony room which was a lovely surprise such a beautiful room and spotless like the rest of the hotel. The staff where all lovely and the breakfast was fantastic. We really enjoyed our weekend and hope to make it a annual trip after Christmas. Free parking was definitely a great bonus.
Excellent location and most accommodating staff! The front desk staff - Fiona and Erin gave us great suggestions for pubs and dinner. Breakfast was excellent as was Elvis our server. Josephine our bar server was so pleasant! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Very enjoyable weekend stay in the Granville. Its an older, settled property with so much history backing it up. Staff and room were excellent.. Breakfast was superb, amazing choice. Bar very friendly.
We have been to the Granville several times before. We were very impressed on our first visit by the kindness and friendliness of the staff. We return because we always have a great experience. The staff are very warm and welcoming - this is consistent across all aspects of the hotel. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is a real treat. We will be back!
We stayed at this hotel to go to a music Gig in Waterford. We got a reasonable price for our room, compared to some of the ridiculous prices being charged by some hotels, and therefore decided to have our food and drink there during our visit. There is a good choice of food on the bar menu and although some of the starters are a little overpriced it was well presented and very tasty. The Service in the bar was excellent and staff are very friendly. Our room was perfectly clean and had all you would expect. Will definitely stay again.
I've been staying at the Grandville for over 5 years and there are subtle changes that have cropped up over the past years. Parking no longer free if you don't purchase directly with them,€4 a day (€7 if you pay normally, it is now later check in time which I understand as they are trying to attract business but the biggest change that shocked me is that the residents bar is only open till 1:30am, it used to be open till a lot later.
Really well run hotel..very nicely decorated and furnished..better experience than many more expensive places. Food was good..staff proactive and professional..room was very comfortable all round great value
