The Four Seasons Hotel and Leisure Club often receives accolades for its attentive service and vibrant atmosphere, complete with comfortable social areas and lively music. Guests laud the spacious and immaculate rooms, although the hotel's value for money and certain room features, such as shower heads, sometimes draw criticism.
The cleanliness of the premises, including the leisure facilities, is a highlight for many visitors. Amenities like the pool, gym, and breakfast variety are also well-regarded, despite occasional service hiccups.

Hotel's Favourite
Last weekend I attended my son’s wedding reception and stayed over for 2 nights. I can’t thank the management and staff at the hotel enough for making it a truly special time. From the warm welcome to the delicious food, everything was superb. The staff were professional, polite and always had a kind word and ready smile. We were all so delighted with The Four Seasons and will certainly return in future.

The Hotel is situated just on the outskirts of Monaghan and only a few minutes drive into the centre. It would be walkable for those who wish to avail of a nice dinner and drinks in the town at about 20 mins walk.
It has a nice approach to the hotel with an impressive front facade. The lobby area is welcoming with plenty of comfortable areas to sit and relax. The check-in was quick, efficient and friendly.
My room was on the ground floor which is always a bug bear as I feel it necessary to have the curtains always closed for privacy - but this is a personal preference.
The room was nicely decorated with contemporary fixtures and fittings which do not bare the signs of wear and tear. There was plenty of storage space and the familiar necessities of tea/coffee, toiletries and a good sized television. The room also had comfortable seats to relax in. The furnishings are plush and fitting of a 4 star. I would say in time the bathroom will need updated as its age does show and I resisted a shower due to the shower head. The only issue I had with the room was the bed and WiFi. There was low speeds of 2mb which was found around the hotel. Secondly, the bed had a canyon between the two single mattresses pushed together. I addressed this at reception who informed me it was a zip&lock bed and they would ask house keeping to look at. However on inspection it was two different sized incompatible mattresses. Something not an issue to a couple, but a consideration to a solo traveller.
Breakfast was a nice moment with a pleasing offering of hot food made to order. The staff were attentive and allowed for variations of the menu to be ordered. There was also a small selection of a continental breakfast available to.
The fourth star for this hotel is undoubtedly achieved due to the spa. A good sized pool along with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. However on my visit the steam room was not operating and the jacuzzi was only just warm.
It would also be best to avoid nights when there is a school formal or disco on if that is not to your suiting. And also a room away from one of the loud corridor doors.
Overall this is a comfortable hotel on the outskirts of a nice town. The hotel still maintains its homely family run charm and the staff are welcoming.

Dear SoloStays, Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your very detailed review! Overall it was a pleasure to read. We do apologise that you found the WiFi to be slow, unfortunately when there is a large volume of guests logged on to a public WiFi it can reduce the speed of it. We also apologise for the gap between the bed, as you were informed they are zip and link beds and sadly on this occasion our team missed the link! We are most proud of the comments you made in regards to our long-standing, dedicated and friendly team <3 We hope to welcome you back again soon - And please know we always do our best to accommodate room allocation requests too :D Kindest wishes, Laura

Beautiful Hotel on a lovely quiet road, 15min pleasant walk to Monaghan.
4 star décor and service but unfortunately not 4 star food.
We ordered the steak sandwich which turned out not to be a sandwich as the steak was served on a piece of bread but with not the top i.e.. not sandwiched between bread. This is a personal peeve of mine. However this time it probably didn't matter that the the top piece of bread was missing as we couldn't eat the bread, it was soaked in garlic butte and actually leaking over the plate. On the other side of the plate there was what looked to be a very colorful salad unfortunately it was soaked in salad dressing and was soaking that side of the plate. I had to remove the steak and eat it off a side plate as I didn't want the chips to get soaked The steak was perfectly cooked so maybe do not be so heavy handed with dressings or get rid of the garlic completely.
The Breakfast is buffet style. A great choice of yoghurt, cereal, fruit etc. that you help yourself to and it is all lovely. However when you queue to get the hot food the problems start. They serve breakfast until 10am, we went down about 9.20 so after eating the cold food we were queuing for hot at about 9.40/9.45 and the scrambled egg was already finished, very disappointing. I think you should be still refilling at that time as there still quite a few people after us.
Secondly the toast is already prepared so you are either given cold hard toast , which my husband was given or you are told that she has to make more and will bring it to your table!!! of course this means by the time you get it, you have already eaten your food, which is what happened to me.
I think this could be solved by putting toasters beside the cold buffet section and let people toast their own.
Overall a 4 STAR Hotel, with 4 star service...All the staff really friendly and welcoming.
They just need to tweak their food.

Just back from a one night stay here ,I booked the hotel online on their website the night before we stayed and all that was available to book was a suite so we didn't have a choice but pay 185 for bnb which I thought was expensive but it was a suite I suppose ,anyway the main complaint i have is there was no shower,it did have a bath but no shower,I've stayed in suites before and all I've stayed in had both, this wouldn't be a problem to most but I've a sore knee so it wasn't ideal for me,i decided to check online and saw that double rooms were available at a much cheaper price ,I spoke to a lady at reception and explained my predicament and asked how there were rooms available that weren't the night before ,she spoke to someone in the back office and told me that workers had cancelled that day, anyhow she offered me a double room with shower and i presumed I'd get a refund of price difference but not so ,she said I'd booked suite so had to pay for it and suites don't have showers ,my room wasn't suitable for me and there were rooms available that obviously had been paid for as per cancellation policy so i don't understand why i couldn't get a refund of the difference if i agreed to take the double room.
The hotel is four star but we were very disappointed with the dinner menu, basically it was bar food served in either the bar or their restaurant area and I feel it was expensive for what was offered in comparison to other hotels we've stayed at recently.
Staff in the bar and restaurant were friendly.
The leisure centre is dated especially the changing areas but staff were friendly again, sauna ,steam room and jacuzzi all closed with no prior notification ,these are all open in other hotels we've visited.
Overall I regret to say we had a disappointing stay.

Dear 744Giovanna, Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us. As you mentioned, you choose to proceed with reserving our Superior Suite as at the time of making your booking that there were no other room types available. The description of our Superior Suite on the hotel's website quite clearly outlines that the bathroom contains a jacuzzi bath and makes no mention of a shower, I apologise if you overlooked this. As you made your reservation online, there would a payable commission associated to the rate of your original booking for the Superior Suite that the hotel would have to still pay which consequently would mean that we would not be able to reduce your rate. We offer a freshly prepared and locally sourced where possible menu throughout the hotel that is competitively priced for the local Monaghan area. We're glad that you recognised the high-quality of service and hospitality that our team offer to all of our visiting guests. I'm disappointed to learn that you were not aware of our leisure facilities being open on a reduced capacity as it is clearly listed next to each of our accommodation rates on our website - "Full use of our award-winning 4Fit Leisure Club facilities; Subject to the latest regulations", as well in the confirmation email. We apologise this affected your experience with us, however, I do hope this will not deter you from visiting the hotel again in the future. If you do decide to revisit us, please ask for me directly and I’d be more than happy to see if there’s anything we can do to enhance your stay. Kindest wishes, Laura

Family suite was lovely and spacious and bed were comfy. Unfortunately what let it down was the food was just average. Restaurant had young people manning the tables and wakted to sit us right at the doors to the foyer inside the restaurant, not great for atmosphere, asked to move to inside restaurant. No settings / glassware/ tablecloth on the tables. Husband had guinness but had to ask for a new one as glass residue made the guiness flat, replacement wasn't any better unfortunately.
Ordered chicken nuggets & chips for one which was overdone and chips overcooked. Husband ordered Asian chicken noodles - smothered in sauce. Next morning the breakfast wasn't much better unfortunately. Definitely not worth the rate of €295 for one night (3pm to 11am the next day), not even 24 hours. Felt like it was far feom value for money. Vaccum left in restaurant didn't look great either.

Dear 891rachelf, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback :) While I’m glad to learn you found the family suite spacious and the beds comfortable, I’m disappointed that other aspects of your stay didn’t meet expectations. It is unfortunate that the dining experience wasn’t up to standard; Your comments regarding the table location, service, and quality of food are noted and will be shared with our restaurant team for immediate review. It’s certainly not the experience we aim to provide. Additionally, the presentation and condition of the restaurant, such as the vacuum being left out, are details we take seriously, and I apologise that this impacted your experience. We appreciate your honest feedback as it helps us improve, and we hope you might give us another chance in the future to provide a better experience. Should you choose to return to the hotel, I would ask that you contact me directly and I'd be more than happy to see if there's anything we can do to help enhance your stay. Kindest wishes, Laura

We found this to be a lovely hotel. The restaurant staff made our four night stay here particularly worthy of praise. They were attentive and very accommodating, Anne Marie and Ronin in particular were extremely helpful hosts. The food was delightful, creative (chef created great vegan options) and served with lovely warm Irish hospitality. Would definitely visit the Four Seasons again, many thanks!

I appreciated getting a ground room floor with a shower chair when I mentioned I was pregnant. It was very thoughtful of whoever was in charge. It was a great wedding venue. The pool was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would love to stay there again. I loved the pool.

Room was clean and a good size, good pool and steam room etc. Gym itself was a bit small and quite crowded. Diner was ok, would have preferred a proper restaurant setting but you have to eat in the pub/bar. Also no desert options available on the menu. Breakfast is in the bar also - one morning it was table service the next day it was a buffet style setup, the options were crammed onto a small section of the bar but had to be served to you and you are handed a red hot plate...just ok on both occasions but second set up is really ridiculous. Tables way too small for all the breakfast paraphernalia & the pub/bar setting isn't great. Staff at reception helpful & friendly.

Dear Irish1978, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your comments following your 2 stays in June. We're glad that you enjoyed the use of our popular award-winning leisure facilities and that you found our team, particularly on our Reception Team to be friendly and accommodating. You're quite right in that we offer the same a la carte menu throughout both our bar & restaurant. In order for our team to offer a more attentive service, when these areas are not busy, they do try to limit the seating options available to guests rather than spreading tables out across different areas. Likewise, during busy periods, our Kitchen Team will utilise our Food Bar area to offer a more readily accessible breakfast to the vast number of guests, both staying and just popping in. Trays are available for guests to utilise should they wish to at the Food Bar as well. We offer a vast selection of desserts throughout the hotel, found on a separate dessert menu. I apologise if this was not offered to you after your main meal, but rest assured it in place. I have passed your comments onto all of the necessary departments and we sincerely hope that it will not deter you from revisiting the hotel again in the future. Kindest wishes, Laura

It's not often that I want to rate a place zero stars, but this was 100% one of those instances.
My partner, her three children, and I all went to the Four Seasons to grab some food, charge some devices (tablets and phones), and use their internet. This was all following Storm Éowyn. To clarify, my partner's children would all be neurospicy like her and myself (she's Autistic and I've got cPTSD and ADHD). Her eldest son is Autistic and would be slightly more profound than the rest of us.
I initially had a poor interaction with a girl in the restaurant. She was incredibly rude for no reason. Following that, I approached the reception to give feedback on their staff and politely complain. Before I could even explain anything, an overbearing voice from beside me started asserting that the hotel staff were all doing their best etc.
I explained that none of that was really what was in question. I wanted to tell them that I'd had a very rude experience. This offensive gentleman got right up in my face in an extremely threatening manner. I was extremely surprised to discover the gentleman was non other than Frank McKenna, MD of the hotel. His completely casual attire and overall manner, should have given a clear indicator of the unprofessional approach I would experience.
What resulted was an initial exchange between Fank and I, followed by an exchange between Frank and my partner. The contents of which were Frank detailing how Autistic children should be put in care and he would ring Tulsa about her child.
Where someone gets off saying that to a parent is beyond me.

What resulted was an initial exchange between Fank and I, followed by an exchange between Frank and my partner. The contents of which were Frank detailing how Autistic children should be put in care and he would ring Tulsa about her child.
Where someone gets off saying that to a parent is beyond me.

Double beds were comfortable but small in size, my legs were dangling out the end. Rooms could do with updating. Staff friendly at reception. Breakfast was a huge disappointment and you could see staff were not happy in general. Buffet food was lukewarm and coffee was bland and served in small silver teapots that you would find in a cheap café. These were filled with coffee from a coffee jug that was just sitting there. As my husband’s coffee was bland I specifically asked a friendly girl for an americano coffee and that was the best part of the breakfast. We left our food and the waitress just glared at us. Not a nice experience. Leisure centre was definitely not a 4 star experience.

Dear Dervilla, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are very disheartened that your stay with us has left you disappointed! We do apologise that you feel let down by the room that was assigned to you for your stay. Although we do our best to ensure that all of our guest rooms are kept to the highest standard, unfortunately a natural part of the accommodation industry is wear and tear. As part of our ongoing refurbishment program, we consistently upgrade and refurbish all areas of the hotel, which we feel will help to elevate the standard of our guest accommodation & public areas. We have a continuous plan of renewal in all areas of the hotel and we are committed to reinvestment when both time and finances permit it. Included within our breakfast offer is filter coffee or tea, both of which are indeed served in the traditional silver teapots. Speciality coffees, such as Americanos should incur an additional charge. We are normally highly commended on the level of high-quality service offered to all visiting guests by our team across all departments, so I am very surprised to read your comments in relation to this. Rest assured, we have passed your comments onto all of the necessary departments and we sincerely hope that it will not deter you from revisiting the hotel again in the future. Should you wish to revisit the hotel, I would request that contact me directly and I'd be more than happy to see if there's anything I can do to help redeem your opinion of us. Kindest wishes, Laura
