The Hillgrove Hotel & Spa garners appreciation for its friendly service and spotless environment, with a notable 'Clean the Planet' initiative that has caught the eye of many guests. While some visitors find the hotel's value debateable, citing inconsistencies in pricing, others feel that the accommodations are reasonably priced.
The rooms are typically described as spacious and inviting, though a handful of guests have noted a need for maintenance and modernization. The amenities and lively atmosphere generally receive positive remarks, though recommendations for updating the leisure center have been mentioned.

Detailed Reviews
Just home from a 2 night stay and i'll definitely be back sometime in the future. Everything was great, the staff, cleanliness and the food. Hotel is child friendly, it has a child club which my daughter just loved.
The staff is constantly cleaning all touch points, handrails, door handles, lift buttons etc.
I'd recommend booking your slot for the swimming pool before visiting as it fills up quickly.

I was one of 50 lucky guests to attend my friend’s Wedding on the 4th of Sept. The bride and groom got married in Macartan’s Cathedral(2 mins walk) from The Hillgrove hotel. I don’t think I’ve been in a nicer church, it was breathtaking. The church was sectioned off for the 50 guests. I can only imagine their photos to be amazing.
The Hillgrove hotel and staff where so accommodating to us all, they done a great job in creating what could have been a stressful time into a very relaxed and wonderful day. The staff wore face masks and the tables where kitted out with hand sanitisers for everyone to use. The bar was table service which didn’t feel much different to how a wedding would be before. Face masks where advised but we where not told to have them on all the time.
I could not recommend the hotel and staff enough for anyone who’s considering getting married during a pandemic cause let’s face it this isn’t going away anytime soon. Just do it!!!
The ball room was decorated so beautifully for 50 guests. Well done to The Hillgrove hotel and staff. We had a brilliant day. I attached some photos for people to see how it looked.

We stayed 1 night B&B for the Jimmy Carr show. I was delighted to see Jimmy was performing at local hotels instead of big city arenas. He was really good. Check in was excellent and the girl told us the doors open at 7pm for the show. We dropped our bags up into the lovely big bedroom and had a drink at the bar before the show. The hotel was very busy and there was a girl playing piano in the lobby area. We headed over to the show room and got our seats early, nice and close but not too close! My husband went to one of the bars and it was slow going. There seemed to be 3 bars in operation within the function room but really long lines. You would think an hour would be plenty of time for everyone to get a seat and a drink. During the interval I went to the toilet but didnt attempt to go near the bars so was very hot and thirsty during the second half. There was bottled water provided in our room and beds really comfy with option of opening windows. The walls must be really thin as we could hear our neighbours at 4am, wont say what they were doing but we could hear EVERYTHING! Breakfast was really good, we prebooked 830am and it was quiet. Buffet spread hot and cold really fresh and you could even make your own pancakes! Check out was easy and on our way out we noticed the coffee shop was open with some great looking peacan pie! Might try that next time

Visited here a year ago and enjoyed the stay so recommend it to a few couples and we went as a group. I couldn't have been more embarrassed about recommending a hotel as I was after this one.
Hotel : no aircon working and was extremely hot was the topic of any guest you met.
Rooms: open the door thought ok it's clean was initially impressed by the lovely four poster bed and jacuzzi bath tub. The other half filled the bath pressed the button and discovered it wasn't working we then left the room on returning discovering the door was dead and we couldn't use our key cards. we now had to have a member of staff Contacted and come let us into the room every time we left. Room was very hot throughout the night not great for sleeping.
Restaurant: probably the worse experience of all the food was very poor quality soggy pizza, chips were cheap frozen chips and food was over priced for what we got. Drinks were sent back a number of times due to lip stick stains, unclean and on one occasion a fly in the glass. But worse of all I spent the night getting sick after eating here mostly definitely something wrong if this is four stars.
Spa: last experience a year ago was excellent given a robe told to change into shorts in changing room and had a relaxing experience yes some things were bound to change with COVID but the spa experience was another let down was guided into the "relax" room in my jeans jumper and shoes with a face mask on directed to sit in a chair and "relax" while I wait for my massage. After 15 mins in an overhead room full clothed the tourcher ended when I was called to the massage room. I was directed to keep my mask on face down on the bench smoothering thorough the duration of the treatment I was guided back to the "relax" room no water as the dispenser seemed to have run out of cups. I quickly decided to pay and leave.
After a sleepless night being sick and more stress leaving the spa then I was going in . I got up pack my bags left without breakfast we paid for wasn't brave enough to try eat here again and hit the room. After Lock down this was supposed to be a nice get away bit the only thing I enjoyed was leaving the hotel. How could standards have fallen so low in one year. Mostly definitely will never be back.

My sisters and I stayed at Hillgrove in February for one night. We booked into have a massage each. We decided to go to the thermal room early in which we had to pay an additional €15 per person to use. I have been lucky enough to have experienced many spas across Ireland and I have never had to pay extra to use the facilities when paying for a treatment. We were extremely disappointed. The outdoor jacuzzi was nice but the area was grubby and could do with a lick of paint. The whole two hours we were there, there was a towel on the ground and no one picked it up so the area was not maintained. To add to this, the relaxation room was attended to once over the period I was there, as we were left with no water for a very long time. However the massages were quite good and the therapists very professional.
The room itself was sufficient. It was quite cold and reception did turn up the thermostat when we mentioned it but remained chilly overnight, probably due to the large window. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Our check in was excellent and Karen was extremely pleasant and friendly to deal with.
We had lunch in the bar while we waited on our room. It was average and quite slow but filled a space. Breakfast was nice. And as mentioned previously, the staff were very good and friendly.

We stayed here with our 3 children. We were looking forward to our stay as it is a family friendly hotel but we were badly disappointed. Lift light wasn't working and made a loud noise so kids wer petrified to use it.not Ídeal wen your room is on the top floor.Room carpet was dirty.Bathroom floor tiles were cracked and sink was cracked. No air condition in rooms so it was like a sauna.not Ídeal with 3 young kids.lobby area was very dirty sofas/carpets etc. Leak stains on the roof and down the walls.wallpaper coming off.it looked like it needed a good cleaning. receptionist complained to us about our kids on the 1st nite even tho there was other kids running about. Not very family friendly. On one day it was raining we asked reception about getting our kids into the kids Club.they told us to take them on down but then they wer refused in as it was full. We got breakfast the 1st morning in our room. It was supposed to be ther between half 7 and 8 as we had the pool booked for half 8..it didn't arrive till 8.15... Cold.. We didn't make it to the pool till 8.50 and then had to be out by 9.15. We did complain wen we were there and spoke to 3 different managers. We were offered a complimentary drink at the bar. 2nd day we sat in the lobby while our room was being cleaned. Decided to get the "complimentary drink" while we waited but we were told we would have to buy food to receive a drink. My sister also stayed 2 nights. They were told by 2 staff members that the park was closed but then we were informed by a manager that it was never closed. Staff didn't have a clue what was going on. We cudn get access to our car on the day we were leaving. We had to sit in the lobby for 4 hours with 3 children. We asked reception if we cud leave our cases somewer wile we took the kids for a walk and they refused. So we sat in the hot lobby as there's no air conditioning in there either for 4 hours. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and we definitly will not be back.

Arrived in March. Obviously I don't need to explain what has been happening around the World but before we arrived we received a call saying some facilities were closed and some events had been cancelled and we were offered full refund. We decided to carry on and the hotel was quiet but we enjoyed our stay, Staff were great and cleaners were visibly cleaning touch points, door handles and rails etc. Great meal in PK'S bar and we used the pool and play park which were quiet so we basically had the place to ourselves. We hope to stay again when some sort of normality returns. Cant complain at all

This hotel has an up market exterior but the staff although pleasant are really not professional in their approach. On arrival we were met by a pleasant receptionist but her approach aligned with the hotels rather unprofessional response to customer focus.
The corridors were untidy (floor 1 ) with pieces of clear paper rappers lying in corners. Still next day these pieces of paper were lying even when a manager on duty on the floot must have past numerous times.
We had to contact reception with regard to a loud fan like noise which would making sleep difficult and were told it was a kitchen fan and would be switched off at 10.00. This sound did not cease and after numerous calls a manager appeared and then decided it was a fault with an electrical panel situated between two rooms.
Next day we were asked if we enjoyed our stay and explained above which seemed to be news to the reception. They offered some kind of compensation and agreed that management would call to discuss the issue as they did not wish this post on Trip Adviser.
While at breakfast we were met with a gum chewing waitress who again was pleasant but really summed up the level of professionalism of this hotel.
We decided to stay at the hotel as it appeared to indicate a high quality establishment that we might enjoy on our last day in Ireland but I would recommend a Premier Inn at least you know the standard you will get

A very well presented and impressive hotel 👍🏼
We were placed in a very quiet wing of the hotel , with views over the surrounding countryside .
The room was very spacious, tastefully decorated and very clean.
Bed was huge !
However on the negative side the carpet in the hall way looked like it had seen better days and sections of the carpet in the bedroom we were allocated , were rather threadbare.
We did see briefly see another wing of the hotel ( by getting into the wrong lift for our section) and the carpets in these areas looked in much better condition ?
I had booked directly with the hotel , so would have expected to be placed in the more recently refurbished section of the hotel but as this was the second day of our stay and we had a very quiet section of the hotel , I didn’t request a room change.
The bathroom was very big and clean , with a jacuzzi bath and shower combo. However both I and my partner slipped on the bath surface trying to use the shower ,as there was no bath mat available ( apparently they don’t provide them as it’s a health and safety issue 🥴) or any warning that the surface was very slippery….and this was before using any shower products !
As it was a midweek stay , the main restaurant was not open and only the bar area was available for evening meals.
Our meal the first night was spoilt by the poor quality chips provided with our main courses , however we ate there the second night and the quality was much better .
On the second occasion however , it was spoilt by a large and loud group of women being placed beside us in a raised seating area . As we were part of the way through our meal when they arrived , we didn’t have the opportunity to be moved elsewhere and by that stage the bar eating area was busy 🤔
We also were able to make use of their leisure facilities which were really quite good , apart from the steam room not working the day of our visit.

Was at this hotel this weekend. Was very disappointed with no COVID regulations followed. Not one staff member wearing masks even when serving food. Protocol for bars is table service only but here you could go up to the bar yourself and no protection screen and barman not wearing mask . Line of people at bar.Swimming pool was open and you had to go down in your swimming suit but no dressing gowns when you got out(none in rooms) so you had to walk back to your room through the hotel in your wet costume. Disgraceful. No social distancing at all when queuing for breakfast with about 20 people. Advised assistant manager of above when leaving and just got a Sorry. Not even the offer of a lunch (not that I wanted it) but no managerial skill shown.

Response from iNua Hospitality, Owner at Hillgrove Hotel & Spa
Responded 20 Jul 2020
Dear pauline o, We appreciate you taking the time to complete a review regarding your recent visit to our hotel. I am extremely sorry to read there were a number of elements to your visit that were of concern to you. I would like to reassure you and the tripadvisor community that are reading this review, that the hotel has adapted to the new policies and procedures that are in place to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations relating to the hotel industry. Our Caring For You programme is our guarantee to you that we are prepared to safely and warmly welcome our guests to the Hillgrove Hotel & Spa. Our Caring For You programme includes detailed Health & Safety protocols which have been developed and implemented in line with the HSE, government, and Irish Hotel Federation guidelines. We do have a queuing system in our reception area, PK’s bar, Vettriano Restaurant and Living Well Leisure Club. While initially it was not a mandatory requirement for employees to wear face protection in our food and beverage outlets, following our guests feedback we have adapted our protocols to include that all our food and beverage employees wear face visors. I am terribly sorry that there were no robes available in your family room and while these items are available on request, we have made the decision that all our family rooms have robes available for guest use in these bedrooms. Once again thank you for taking the time to post your review and please do not hesitate to contact me directly if I can be of any further assistance to you. Kind regards, Stephen Murray General Manager stephen@hillgrovehotel.com

Ask for bottom floor family room as no stairs involved & rooms are bigger. As for baby stuff, bring just incase
