Beautiful house in its own grounds within a stones throw of Clew Bay and a 10 min stroll to the shops/bars/restaurants on Westport Quay. Westport town would be a 30 min walk up the hill or a 10 min car drive. It was a pleasure to wake up by the sea - quiet and refreshing.

The room was large, well furnished and comfortable. Like a previous reviewer I was surprised to see, in a 4 star hotel, an inventory for the room fixed to the door; 3 pictures, two chairs etc.

There is a hotel bar that was open 'til 11pm but stock on nibbles and certain drinks (eg. cider) was minimal. Breakfast was okay - I had the vegetarian breakfast which seemed to be the full Irish minus the meaty bits; no veggie sausage or other meat replacement items on the plate.

My only gripe was that the hotel wi-fi didn't work for the duration of our one night stay. If you're travelling from abroad and counting on it (as I was) this was quite tiresome. The lady owner explained there were issues with the internet in the area and there wasn't anything she could do to resolve the issue. Fair enough, but this should be mentioned on the website.

The location is fab, you can walk to the bay area which has nice restaurants. Its a half an hour walk into town but you can get taxis very easily. (Just book both restaurants and taxis early!). Also close to Croagh Patrick and some good beaches in driving / cycling distance.

The rooms are very nice, quite dark for putting on makeup and the towels & sheets need updating. They don't have duvets but sheets and blankets.

The breakfast is absolutely five star. It actually made us think what a shame that the bar & restaurant were closed because I'm sure they would have been of the same standard!

Be aware the property is up a hill, just if you had mobility issues, but it is drivable, no need to walk it.

Stayed four nights in a beautiful king sized bedroom with glorious views of clew Bay. I travelled with our family of 6 and was delighted with the location of Ardmore, its within walking distance of westport which has many facilities and sporting activities for families to avail of. We ate in the hotel on one evening and the quality and quantity of the food was superb, highly recommend. The staff were very accomadating and attentive, even providing bath salts to ease the pain after our greenway cycle. Great breakfasts each morning and the place is kept immaculate. We will return. Thanks Noreen and Pat.

Ardmore is a beautiful, well kept country house close to Westport quay. However, it is quite bleak during COVID - the bar and restaurant were closed and there were no tea making facilities in the room (we were told this was due to COVID restrictions, yet we did not experience this anywhere else in Ireland or NI in our travels). This particularly impacted us because there was nowhere we could eat in Westport on Monday August 10th - many restaurants close on Monday and those open were fully booked.
The man at reception kindly made me a mug of tea, leaving my poor old partner gasping! He couldn’t even read the paper as there were no overhead lights in the room and the lamplight was too dim to read.
Toiletries really basic. Towels had seen better days.
Ardmore was twice the price (€150 b&b) of most other hotels we stayed at during our staycation, and the worst value.
Breakfast nice and hot, served with a smile (unlike our hostess on arrival!).

Positives
Good bed, clean room, large room, daily towel change, ample parking, views,

Negatives
All round fawlty towers experience
The owner was inflexible when asked about basic needs. My wife is visually impaired so we asked if it was possible to have breakfast on one of the tables by the window each day as the rest of dining area was quite dark. She said that she wouldn’t guarantee that.
The landing lights that led to our room were often not on so we asked if it was possible to have them on so that my wife could see the stairs. She said that they were on a timer. When questioned about changing the timer as the lights were randomly on and off over the next couple of days she said that we should tell her what time we leave our room and return and she will turn on the light when needed. I would have been happy to pay the extra few cents to run an led lightbulb all day but that wasn’t going to change her approach. We were offered a smaller room on a lower floor which was darker than the one we had instead of leaving the light on for us.
Breakfast choices were limited and asking to mix items on the menu was met with a frosty response. Even changing our drink order (tea or coffee) or toast order day by day seemed to be met with disapproval.
The shower in the room was next to a sloping roof so it was tricky to climb in and out of.

As you can see, our issues are more about the owners than the property, to the point where it was easier to avoid any discussions due to the frosty unhelpful responses.

Also if you have any access needs be prepared to wind your watch back 50 years on arrival as any slightly off piste simple request will be frowned upon.

Beautiful location with amazing views, a few minutes walk from the harbour and close to town. Stayed for 3 nights in July and will definitely return. The breakfast was delicious with so much choice, the dinner was absolutely mouth-watering , even the dessert was exceptional. The rooms are big with really comfy beds and the whole place is spotless, Noreen and the staff are very warm & helpful and nothing was any trouble. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable & very relaxing stay.
Would highly recommend!

Stayed at Ardmore country house hotel for 3 nights. Disappointed as I wouldn’t class it as a hotel more a bed & breakfast. Breakfast was at 8.30 only felt that was a little early when your on a break. The towels are seriously in need of replacing really off putting rough, & grey not what you would expect in a 4 star. Breakfast was nice good choice on menu. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room again even during these times I found very strange.

Beautiful country house hotel in a tranquil setting between Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay. Breakfast was freshly prepared each morning and was delicious. I had the porridge and fruit compote and tea and toast. My partner had cereal and poached eggs and bacon, although he was tempted by the pancakes with maple syrup. The host , Noreen was very attentive to our needs and made us feel relaxed and welcome.
The rooms are large and we had a view of Clew Bay fro our window.
The house is a short walk to the harbour where there are bars and restaurants and you can watch the sunset.

We stayed in Ardmore House over the May Bank Holiday weekend, we were greeted with a warm welcome by Noreen, who is always smiling and so helpful.
The accommodation is so clean and beautifully decorated, The room was cosy, warm and spotless with beautiful views of the water, the bed was really comfortable and bathroom really spacious.
Breakfast again was really well received with a good variety of choice taylored for all.
Noreen and her family are quick to make sure you have everything you need, also homemade scones are offered as a treat to enjoy later in the day and was a lovely touch.
We had such a great time in Wesport and the relaxing stay at Ardmore made our holiday just a little more special, we will definitely return.

This is a delightful place to stay. We were in Westport for a few days to do some sightseeing and cycling the greenway. Ardmore House was an ideal location as it was close to the town. Walking distance to the Quays and Westport House too.

We were well looked after by Noreen and her staff. She is a lovely host and seems to work hard in the background giving guests the space needed to relax. It's the first place in a long time where I have had three consecutibe nights of uninterrupted sleep. There literally isnt a sound in the place and that's the beauty about it. Plus the views over the harbour and bay are very nice to wake up to.

I have read a lot of reviews on the property and those which are negative are unduly harsh. It is an impeccably kept and well finished hotel/guesthouse. Rooms are spotless and spacious. The ensuites are immaculate clean. It may not compare with the glitz and glamour of other hotels but it doesnt have to. It has it's own place. If you need some decent R&R , you'll get it here. Continued success to Noreen and Staff.
