Originally booked to stay at McCarthy's in 2019, but due to Covid, had to put the trip off for two years. Wanted to stay in Westport, looked at previous reviews, which were all good. So eventually made it in June 2022. What a great stay we had from start to finish. McCarthys is located in the centre of town, so all other bars, cafes and hotels are nearby, all within a short walk. What made the stay so great though, was Geraldine ( the landlady), Marie and staff. They were all really friendly and welcoming, making us feel like old friends from the get go. We stayed in their three bed apartment on a self catering basis, but B&B is also available. The whole place is well run, the bar is great for the craic, and everything is clean and tidy. There is also free wifi. A great place to be based for a trip to Mayo, or for the yearly music festival. Thanks a million Geraldine and Co, we will be back. Cheers. Pat and Gill.

Popped in to meet family en-route to Achill. Enjoyed a few pints of Guinness and picked up some great local knowledge. Will look to stay next time we are passing through. Geraldine was a great host very ably assisted by James behind the bar. If you are near Westport don't miss it.

This is no doubt a gem in the centre of Westport, great music the night we stayed there were 20 musicians in the back Of McCarthy's pub, the music brought a tear to my eyes with happiness. The room was very well presented and bath room small but very clean and modern. The Host Geraldine was full of warmth and fun, this lady is a Natural at this Business. I find it hard to believe one of the previous review's they must have been staying in a different establishment or pure difficult or they don't go away much Keep up the fantastic work

We had a lovely stay here. We arrived on Sunday the 1st of May after a last minute descion and we were so lucky to have gotten a room. The man in the bar checked us in and had mentioned the owner was at a family funeral and she will check in when she returned which she did and she advised us that there was other guests in the house and to be aware of this when arriving home. Our room was basic, small but cute and the guesthouse was wll located in the centre of town easy to get around. We had a few drinks in the bar next door and we felt so welcomed. The next morning we could not get over how fresh the breakfast was and the amount of it.. we were well fed. 100% be back. I cannot believe the other review were they really in the same place as us? We will 100% be back and telling all our friends and family about this place.

My self and my wife stayed in McCarthy's multiple time's, all I can say if you're going to Westport the best place to stay is McCarthy's guest house and bar, it's a fantastic place to stay, it's a family run guest house, spotless clean, the staff are second to none, they can not do enough to make you're stay as comfortable as possible, we can't fault it in anyway, from the time we arrived to the time we left we felt like part of the family, we can't wait to visit McCarthy's again, thank you again Geraldine Foy for the fantastic hospitality we received and enjoyed,

I checked into this guest house on Sunday the 1st of May with my cousin for the night. At checkin, the man behind the bar brought us up to our room and when we entered into the room there was a terrible smell of sewerage. We opened up all the windows and closed the bathroom door but the smell in the room was just terrible. We said we would get ready quickly and head out as soon as we could. We got a knock on the door a little while later. It was the lady who runs the guesthouse. She told me that was wasn’t there for checkin but needed to discuss a few things with us. She took one look at me and my cousin and seen us as two young women in our twenty’s out on the town. By just looking at us she said ‘This is your verbal warning, I want no party’s, no loud music and no men back to the room’. In 2022 I am absolutely disgusted that she would stereotype two young women in this way. I would love to know if we were two women in our 40s would she have still said ‘no men back’. She continued to tell us that they had Americans staying in the guesthouse also and therefore she wanted no messing by us to disturb the Americans. I was so taken back by her comments I didn’t even know what to say. After she had finished lecturing us I mentioned about the sewerage smell and her response was there might be a bit of a blockage because they had a busy day yesterday. The lady said she would try get a plumber to look at it but obviously nothing was done. They had no other room to move us to so we were left in a freezing cold, smelly room. The next morning I went down for breakfast at 8am as it was included in our room rate. We were told breakfast was from 8-10am however, we were then told that it wouldn’t be starting until 8.30am. To be honest after taking one look at the dinning room and the musty, dirty smell there I would not have enjoyed my breakfast anyway. Overall terrible customer service, awful smells and disgusting gender and ageist stereotypical comments.

Just after spending 2 night here with a group of friends for a party. The place is absolutely excellent and the host Geraldine and her staff are so welcoming. The rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast was excellent and the atmosphere was brilliant. I would definitely recommend everyone going to Westport to stay in McCarthy's. One thing for sure is next time I'm in Westport il defo be staying here again

Stayed for a weekend visit with a group of friends. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome immediately. A lovely traditional pub that was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The accommodation is just next to the pub on the lefthand side, very spacious rooms and again spotlessly clean. There was also a lounge for all the guest to share where there was plenty of tea and coffee to be had. The breakfast was just on par with everything else. All in all, a great place to stay. Geraldine and all the members of staff couldn’t have done anymore for us. Would definitely not hesitate to stay again.

As usual a stay at Mc Carthy's is like a home from home. Spotlessly clean comfortable ensuite rooms with a beautiful breakfast to set you up for the day. At night enjoy a drink or three in their traditional bar from friendly staff. As its near the town centre there are lots of restaurants to chose from
