Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed for a night recently in one of the apartments over the Helm Bar. Spotlessly clean, very functional and staff couldn't be nicer. Had dinner on the evening of arrival and breakfast the following morning in The Helm Bar and we were extremely pleased with the service and quality. We will definitely be back.

4 of us stayed in a 3 bed apartment and it was absolutely fine. Not sure what more you can expect. The bar was fully booked so we couldn’t have a drink but there is a great wee bar down the road called the Quays which was perfect. The breakfast was spot on. Would go again

Disappointed with our stay here- paid almost 200 a night for a very basic and dated apartment , we had booked what we believed to be an apartment over the bar and restaurant however on arrival were given an apartment across the road in cinnamon wharf, which is mainly long term residents and was in no way suitable for a family holiday. While clean and functional , it was in dire need of a lick of paint , the bathroom needs updating and the communal outdoor area- a couple of wicker chairs and tables - was dirty and unkempt. We had breakfast in the bar as part of our package , no explanation as to what was on offer, we discovered the cereals and juice only on day 2., We also felt tables were way too close together and no details were taken for contact tracing. On our last day there were only 2 waitresses serving an almost full room and we waited 45 minutes after getting coffee and toast before we got breakfast- the blonde waitress ok duty was apologetic and brought fresh toast , which was appreciated. On check out , there was a problem with the visa machine, which kept rejecting my card , seemingly due to internet issues- I ended up walking in the rain to the nearest atm withdrawing cash and walking back to pay- despite the issue being with the card machine / internet in the helm, there was no apology and in fact I was made to feel like an inconvenience to the dark haired lady, not wearing uniform, who was on duty- she tutted and tapped her fingers repeatedly on the counter during this interaction- not good enough when the problem lay with the business. A brush up on customer service skills wouldn't go amiss.

No covid rules adhered to We stayed here in July and I was shocked when o walked in to the restaurant. The staff were waiting on tables and no wearing masks. There was no hand sanitiser in use and customers were also walking around without wearing masks. It was a totally unsafe environment and very disappointing to see when so many other places are following the guidelines . We got a refund of for our breakfast for the remaining two morning of our stay . We had our breakfast next door in the creel which was much more relaxing and enjoyable I forgot part of our coffee machine and the staff were kind enough to forward it on without charging us .

Spent the weekend at the Helm with a group of friends for my sisters Hen Party, sharing 3 apartments. From the initial booking with Vinny the experience was fantastic! Apartments so spacious and spotlessly clean with all one could ask for on a self catering weekend away. Excellent location for exploring Westport, we stayed around the harbour most of the weekend but did walk into town on the Saturday which took around 20mins. Breakfast was served in the restaurant up until 10.30am which was fresh and delicious. We dined in the restaurant on the Saturday evening the staff was helpful and friendly and food Beautiful! A special shout out to Caroline in the Restaurant who seemed to be there every hour of our weekend thank you so much for your kind hospitality we will be sure to return.

We stayed here for just under a week at the end of May. The apartment was very clean and a good size for the two of us and the dog. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a walkable distance into the Centre of town and is a 2 minute walk from The Helm restaurant which did lovely food and had live music on every night we were there. We would highly recommend it and we would definitely stay here again.
