Had the best time here. We stayed 2 nights and from the moment we arrived we were treated superbly. Nothing was too much trouble. They could not do enough and were just exceptional. The food ! Omg is was amazing. Thanks Anne you are a highly accomplished chef. The whole experience was something so different and unique we will definitely be planning a return. I have a long fascination with lighthouses probably due to years scuba diving all around Ireland, at places like the hook, johns point etc. My first visit to Clare island was in 1984. My most memorable dive on that trip was on Deace's just rock under the lighthouse. At that time it was disused and I think still in the ownership of Irish lights. I have visited Clare Island on a number of occasions and always walked up to the lighthouse. Just recently my wife and I stayed at the lighthouse, a rare and wonderful treat. We loved every moment of it. The serenity and peace of this place is epic. The accommodation is warm and comfortable and spotlessly clean. The owner has skillfully managed to retain the character of this historic lighthouse and still make it homely.Anne's food was delicious and very welcome after a bracing walk along the cliffs. A thoroughly enjoyable stay, lovely friendly staff that make it feel more like visiting friends than staying at a boutique hotel. Clare Island and its people never disappoint and the visit to the Lighthouse didn't either.Loved it! …
Just arrived home after spending an amazing weekend at Clare Island lighthouse. Our bedroom was just so cosy with specular views of the sea. It has everything the website advertises and more. Big welcoming fires blazing in the grates. The food cooked by chef Anne was so tasty and satisfying. Martina Caitríona and Rosie were at our beck and call to ensure our needs were met. The entertainment was great craic. All in all it was such a wonderful experience and well worth it. Would highly recommend a visit.
Don’t go here. This costs 1500 euro for 2 night. Included is breakfast and dinner and a bottle of wine both nights. Please note all other drink you need to pay for, with a sizeable mark-up. Entertainment is pretty much non existent unless you want to have a chat with the host’s friend who might try and sell you some ridiculously priced blankets. There is no luxury here. I know someone will respond and say that they don’t promise luxury but for 1500 for 2 night I would at least expect luxury, or at least a cosy room and working facilities etc. What exactly am I paying 1500 for? The owners passion project? That’s not how you should charge One is afraid to complain because from the moment you arrive they talk about “island life” and the limitations it brings. That may be true, but then don’t charge 1500 euro for 2 nights then. Honestly I feel totally violated at being taken for such a fool. Obviously the people giving this 5 stars have money to burn, or else are so ashamed to having been taken for this amount of money that they have convinced themselves they had a good time. The food is quite good in fairness If this was 750euro it would still think a bit steep. This has totally disillusioned me with the hospitality in Ireland. And I was always a big believer in staycations and the like. By the way. Nobody stays in the actual lighthouse. The lighthouse is actually just full of old junk.…
We’ve just arrived home after a weekend break at Clare Island Lighthouse, and it didn’t disappoint! I wanted the wild sea, cold air, bracing walks, quietness coupled with a comfortable bed, hot shower, warm fire and really good food, the wine was a treat too. Roie is an excellent host and made us feel welcome, together with Catriona and Martina they looked after us extremely well, like family. Ann’s cooking is honest and satisfying and full of flavour. I liked the quirkiness of the place, our 2 night stay was like a weeks holiday, so relaxing and unpretentious. Can’t wait to go back !
Stayed at the Lighthouse for the first Storm Watching Weekend of the season. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The views from the accommodation are stunning while the guest accommodation is spacious, clean and really comfortable. The meals are all carefully thought out and beautifully presented with an emphasis on local produce. The wine list is also really good. Will definitely be going back. Michael
Roie, Ann, Catriona and Martina delivered a great experience. The guests were a wonderful group of people from all over the country. The welcome we received was really genuine. The food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our room (Tower Room) was a very unique environment and captured a very special atmosphere. Without doubt this was the most enjoyable weekend we have had the pleasure to enjoy. Thanks ladies, you made this happen. Will definitely do this again if we are lucky enough to get a booking. Gerry and Linda.
We've just spent the weekend storm watching from the Lighthouse on Clare Island and what a wonderful weekend it was. From the very outset of boarding the ferry at Roonagh Pier to our departure the weekend was excellently arranged. Roie and her band of merry women, Cathriona, Martina and chef Ann were there to cater for our every need. The room with its cosy fire and spectacular views was just lovely, we stayed at Cliff corner. Roie organised a bracing walk to Beth Moran a local weaver for a demonstration on weaving which was followed by a fabulous lunch served in the kitchen, the hub of the Lighthouse. Our food was all freshly prepared and very tasty. In an effort to minimise waste you are asked prior to going if you have special dietary requirements and indeed are catered for accordingly, the only downside to this is you don't have a choice in your menu. Visiting the Lighthouse is like being home from home well worth a return visit. Marion Walsh McGuire…
We spend two wonderful days at Clare Lighthouse, from beginning to end it was amazing.Cathriona was so welcoming(we missed meeting Rosie)Anna,Martina,Emi make a wonderful team.Room was fantastic (Achill)with stunning views.Pre dinner drinks was great to meet other guests(we all clicked).Food fantastic. We were so lucky with weather ,vIews and walks were brilliant. Highly recommend.
We have spent the last few days on Clare Island Lighthouse. From the moment we stepped off the ferry our holiday began. Roie was waiting to take us to the Lighthouse. The island scenery on the way up to the Lighthouse has numerous shades and colours of vegetation. Roie showed us various areas of interest on the island. The team of Roie, Anne, Martina, Emi and Caitriona went out of they way to make us feel welcome in this haven of tranquility. We met the other residents for pre dinner drinks in the drawing room. It was a great opportunity to get to know the other people on holidays. The layout meant COVID restrictions were well managed throughout our stay. The food was exceptional. Roie made sure we all got the opportunity to see the spectacular sunsets each night. The lighthouse was built in 1806. The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular. We stayed in the Achill View Room. Our view every morning was of Achill Island and the changing sea surrounding it. We would highly recommend Clare Island Lighthouse as a place to stay. It is an experience of a lifetime.…
