We wanted to stay in Westport as a stop over to another location and as we had previously stayed at Hotel Westport before had very fond memories of our previous stays. We had our 11 year old son with us and wanted somewhere close to town but also close to Westport House.

From the second we entered reception you could see that the hotel and staff are well organised in regards to social distancing and sanitisation guidelines so immediately felt at ease. We decided to book our breakfast slot before heading to our room so we were set up for the next day. We were also advised to all and book a slot for the pool which we also did - everything was so organised!

Our room was absolutely sensational. The decor, comfort of the beds, the space for us all to move around was excellent. My son was also super impressed about the jet bath which he took full use of too!

We ventured down to Gracy's for pizza and whilst busy was again very well managed and our orders were taken and food delivered very quickly considering all tables were occupied. Upon return to the hotel, the bar area was well managed and spaced out to make everyone feel safe and secure. They provided extra tables in the restaurant areas after dining times were over to facilitate more guests.

Our time in the pool was also very well organised and we were advised we had 45 minutes in the pool area which was sufficient to get a decent swim in.

Breakfast was to the usually high standard it always is and we were swiftly served toast and tea by the floor staff and queuing for the hot food was again well managed and fast.

I am already planning to have a trip away with the girls hopefully soon and I will never choose another hotel to stay in when I'm in Westport as this cannot get any higher in my estimation.

Well done to all of the staff for such a well organised venue!

Absolutely fantastic stay. Staff were fantastic with my young kids. We visited the pool everyday. I loved the adjoining rooms with my parents. Both rooms were superior/premier and the fact they were adjoining meant my parents could babysit while my husband and I went to the bar. Handy location to the town. Breakfast was great, they happily made the hot breakfast vegetarian for me. Would go back tomorrow if we could!

The one drawback was the cleaning on the second last day. The rooms were not serviced until very late afternoon. We had been out most of the day and were disappointed when the other days it had been done by then. Toilet cleaner was left in the bathroom within reach of my young kids, the tissues weren't replenished in the bathroom and (instead of being given fresh towels) the ones we left in the bath were folded and put back on the shelf. Also the bed wasn't made properly, the mattress was exposed and our milk and water wasn't replenished.

In spite of the above cleaning issue, I really thought it was a fantastic stay. It could have been very stressful as my youngest child is 8 months and still on formula but the bar happily filled bottles of tap water for me.

We have just returned from a 3 night break in Hotel Westport (2 adults, 2 children). We had a lovely trip. Despite the covid restrictions we were really able to relax and enjoy ourselves after the stress of the months spent in lockdown.
The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. The location is relatively quiet but within very easy walking distance of Westport town, Westport house and Westport quay. We also explored nearby Newport and Achill by car.
The covid restrictions made me feel safe in Hotel Westport. The staff have obviously worked very hard to make the hotel environment as safe as possible. There were screens at reception and at the breakfast buffet, hand sanitiser stations were placed throughout the communal areas and the bedroom surfaces were cleared of unnecessary items to allow easy cleaning. Staff were wearing visors or masks and seemed to be cleaning constantly. We had to book a time slot for breakfast each day. This was slightly inconvenient but it successfully avoided any crowding at the breakfast buffet. We also had to book to use the swimming pool. This was not a problem- on one rainy afternoon we decided that we’d like to use the pool and when I phoned I was able to book for the next time slot less than an hour later.
Outside of the hotel the covid restrictions did affect what we were able to do but we were still able to have a great trip sticking to mostly outdoor activities like walking in the grounds of Westport house or visiting the beautiful beaches nearby. The amusement park in Westport house was closed. I would advise anyone visiting Westport to make dinner reservations early. We found it hard to find somewhere to accommodate us for dinner on the evening we arrived and we saw many people being turned away from the restaurants in the town. Restaurants are having to reduce their capacities to allow distancing between tables.
Overall we had a great stay in Hotel Westport and we will definitely be back.

This hotel is in a good location to visit Westport as it is far enough from the town centre to not be noisy but still within walking distance. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and courteous, even the young girl who was training did an excellent job. We had an issue with our payment when we arrived but this was sorted out very efficiently and quickly. The room was very spacious as was the bathroom and very quiet also. The pool area could do with a bit of tlc as could the restaurant. I was nit impressed with our meal in the restaurant. I had the fish and chips and the batter was full of grease and very soggy. My husband ordered pan fried salmon and although he got salmon which was ok it must definitely was not pan fried. With a little bit more work this could be a brilliant hotel.

Like a lot of people we were a little worried about our first trip away since the start of covid, with Hotel Westport we had nothing to worry about. When we arrived the reception area was well screened and we felt very safe and comfortable. we were given a spotless room that had obviously been extremely well cleaned. Right throughout our stay using the Bar & Restaurant it was obvious taht staff had been very well trained and really looked after our needs. The were so helpful and friendly. The booking system for food was extremely efficient and even though we missed our breakfast slot we were accommodated later. We had a wonderful stay in Westport and were delighted with the way we were looked after in Hotel Westport. Well done to all staff.

For anyone worried about how hotel managers and staff are managing to protect both themselves and their guests from the dreaded virus, they need have no concerns about visiting Hotel Westport. Everything is very well organised, and both staff and visitors are very respectful of each other without any fuss. I was there for a 5 night break, and chose here because I wanted to visit the Westport area. The hotel was very comfortable, food was good, all service was friendly and excellent. They have clearly stated protocols and one of my companions (who is super-nervous) relaxed completely during the stay. My room was very spacious, and I loved the walk in shower. The location is right beside the town, in the grounds of Westport House (we spent a very enjoyable afternoon doing a self-guided tour of the house). I did not visit the pool or Spa, but I heard both were well worth a visit. My (badly needed) holiday was very good value, and I would recommend it to anyone as a very good hotel in a lovely location.

Appears to be a management culture and attitude problem underlying the problems on this hotel. Manager dismissive/does not acknowledge guests ( note: wasn't complaining, manger was sitting at reception desk) and beckons/wafts to subordinate staff.

Note that the young staff were, pleasant, helpful and polite in all areas of the hotel. I can only guess the difficulties they have behind the scenes. Not great for a 4 star hotel.

Hotel errors and confusion with booking dinner times, there's no choice between restaurant/bar seating areas despite the website and staff who called in advance of our stay to take bookings offering the choice.

Food is okay, but likely from a freezer rather than fresh meats/fish etc. Poor waiting service, got a main course brought to the table while eating starters, confusion over drinks. Dusty table tops around the bar seating areas, on tables that staff would be touching daily, shown by marks in the dust. No guest/courtesy umbrellas - bring your own or a jacket if you need to get to your car in the rain. Fresh 'clean' TV remote in the room has dirt deposits between the buttons.

Swimming pool is nice for a quick dip, parking available, room is clean-ish, even if I'm currently flicking clouds of dust off the lampshades.

Booked a family break here in August, what a disappointment. The senior staff were quite rude and the place was in chaos. I was aware they were re-opening after some time however there should have been ample time to ensure things ran smoothly. Wrong dinners served to us, no staff available to take drinks orders despite many staff running around like headless chickens, ordered a cup of coffee four times before it arrived.. The wifi was non-existent even in the foyer. The atrium was constantly littered with empty glasses and coffee cups. There were many unhappy customers staying judging by the number of complaint I observed at reception. When it came to checking out I asked my wife to do so as I couldnt stomach the thought of paying for such a terrible experience. When my wife was checking out she was asked if everything was ok, she replied "no". The receptionist didnt comment. This hotel seems to trade on its location with access to the beautiful grounds of Westport House and its proximity to the town centre. Shall not be staying here and shall certainly not recommend this hotel.

Myself my wife along with two ten Yr olds just spent two days in Westport, staying at The Westport Hotel.
I have to commend the management and all the team for the way the Covid-19 restrictions are being manage.
Before our arrival and at check in we were well informed of what to expect and giving relevant information about booking pool and tables in the restaurant well in advance.
Everywhere there was plenty of hand sanitisers and safety notices yet they didn't distract or take away from our stay in any way.
Obviously menus and services are curtailed to allow for guidelines to be implemented and for anyone using any services at this time patience and understanding is the key.
Our room was spotless and very comfortable.
It can't be easy for staff to be working with masks and visors on but they did so in a friendly and very capable manner.
The hotel is in a great location and the walks around Westport House were a great way to wind down after a day exploring Mayo.
Looking forward to returning when we move from the current situation to normality.

Hotel in perfect location for both Westport Town and Westport House. Family room small enough and bathroom a little dated but other than that it was clean and we didn't spend alot of time in actual bedroom. Food for breakfast and dinner was nice. Disappointed with the availability of dinner in both the bar and restaurant. Completely understand restrictions are in place however we were in the restaurant on one night of our stay and there was 13 free tables for the two hours we were there but staff said that it was fully booked out. Another night we couldn't get a table to have dinner as again was 'fully booked". In my opinion when paying over a grand for a 5 nite stay we should be able to get a table for dinner. Also very difficult to get a table in the bar just for a drink. On a few occasions we waited anything from 15 to 25 mins just for our drinks order to be taken , and from talking to other guests we were not the only ones. Seemed to be a huge lack of experience with the staff. I have no problem with new staff only getting used to the run of things but there seemed to be poor training of staff and also huge lack of initiative by staff. For example tables not being cleared, wrong orders, breakfast tea and toast delivered to table when breakfast was finished, not knowing what's included in a package where one evening meal is included, milk not replaced in the bedroom..just to name a few. Finally, I understand that the reception area cannot have brochures etc of things to do, places of interest but i would suggest that maybe a welcome pack could be supplied upon check-in with perhaps a map of the area, and some brochures etc. The ice cream at 4pm daily is a nice touch and the pool and pool staff were very helpful and accommodating. The crazy golf area could do with a clean up. Wifi was very poor in the bedroom and the tv channels were hit & miss. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Westport. Not 100% sure we would return to Hotel Westport. Quite expensive to have such hassle booking a meal or drinks... perhaps if Covid wasn't around these would not be such an issue..
