Knockranny House Hotel & Spa has garnered praise for its serene atmosphere and stunning location, which guests find convenient for exploring local attractions. The spacious and comfortable rooms, particularly the large bathrooms, are popular among travelers, although some suggest they could benefit from updates and enhanced cleanliness. While the service is generally applauded for being friendly and professional, there have been occasional reports of inconsistency. The amenities, including the pool and spa, are well-received, despite minor service issues. Opinions on the hotel's value for money, however, are divided.

Credit to Knockranny for their impressive reopening. Knowing that they run a good show with great staff and large and airy rooms and public spaces encouraged us to go there and we were not disappointed. The extra cleaning regimes and slight constraints on the way things were done were reassuring rather than interfering and the breakfasts were as good as ever (do try the granola!). We ate once in the bar and twice in the restaurant. We also wandered down to an ever vibrant Westport and enjoyed beautiful nearby beaches and walks. Dining in Knockranny’s La Fougére restaurant overlooking the town and the bay and tasting just about anything from a menu by their wonderful chef, Seamus Commons, would be worth the trip alone....

We had our wedding in Knockranny on 2nd January 2020.
From the moment we viewed the venue in December 2018 we were blown away. The location is fabulous, on a clear day you can see Croagh Patrick, clew bay and Westport and even on a cloudy day the roaring fire will have you feeling cosy in no time.

The service we received from Claire (Wedding co-ordinator), Nick and all the teams was excellent. Nothing was too big or too small to ask and Claire was always at the end of the phone or email if we had any questions. We live abroad but planning from there was made so easy by Claire. On the day, we could not fault one thing. Everything ran so smoothly. Claire showed us to the location for the pictures, the fabulous drinks reception in the cocktail lounge where we had ample time to mingle with our guests. The food was amazing, each guest was so impressed by the quality of the food and the fantastic service. The function room felt so homely even though we had 250+ guests seated. The rooms were exquisite and as we left the following morning we just wished we would have more time in the hotel - so as part of our honeymoon we came back the week after our wedding and had a further 2 nights stay. We were treated so well and enjoyed breakfast and dinner each day in the beautiful La Fougére restaurant. The entertainment in the Brehon Bar was brilliant too and had a trio of Irish musicians playing on one of the nights we stayed. An extra bonus was a very relaxing time in the Salveo Spa and thermal suites - make sure to give this a visit!

If you are looking for a relaxing stay this is the place for you and if you are looking for the best wedding venue in the West of Ireland this is the place for you. We could not recommend Knockranny house hotel more. You will absolutely not be disappointed.

This is our 5th or 6th stay at Knockranny House Hotel & Spa. and we are already looking forward to next time and hopefully many more r&r visits to this happy, spacious, bright, clean, well appointed hotel and locally owned hotel located. The hotel is located on a rolling hill within comfortable walking distance of charming Westport town centre, of one of Ireland's best love tidy town winners. The food (mostly sourced locally) was well presented and tasted lovely, the portions ample and competitively priced.
We found all the staff we met (Restaurant, Bar, Spa, Housekeeping, etc) to be cordial, helpful and professional.
The views from the Restaurant/Dining area and Bar of Croach Patrick, Clew Bay, Clare Island and accompanying sunsets are always interesting and frequently stunning.
Plenty of grounds/garden to ramble around, interesting art collection on the corridors,
My only gripe is access with a pull along suit case there is a wheelchair access (not the easiest to navigate) but hauling a suit case up the steps to the front entrance is not for the faint hearted, get help.
If staying for 3 nights or more, consider treating yourself to an upgrade, the extra space is uplifting.
Get local taxi phone numbers from reception before going out on the town, the taxis are in plain cloths and not on Free Now app.

The approach to the hotel is not the easiest to navigate however once you go up the curvy road the structure of the building is rather impressive. There is plenty of parking. The reception staff were courteous and helpful and check-in was straightforward. The hotel’s public spaces and corridors are quite vast and whilst there is ample signage, the numbering of the rooms is not at all user friendly and bears little relation to the floor number.

I had booked a grand double deluxe room and whilst this had some measure of character the room was much less vibrant than the photos on the website would suggest. There was, however, lots of space and the room was comfortable. It would benefit from more colour and warmer decorations as the existing decor is extremely bland. The bathroom was huge and again there was nothing to soften the atmosphere. The tub was jetted.

The quality of the food at breakfast was very good and this was taken in the main restaurant, where there was table service. The staff got things very wrong however in that the warm food came within a couple of minutes of ordering and by the time the bowl of fruit had been eaten the warm course had gone cold. This was a little disappointing. There were excellent views of the neighbouring countryside.

The hotel benefits from a spa but this is also a little dated and the pool area does not have the benefit of a hot tub.

The price paid was reasonable however I would not feel the same way at high season rates.

The check in service was efficient, but rooms are not available until 4pm (even though the checkout time is 12pm) which meant a number of guests were hanging around reception for some time. On request about information on walks and bike hire we were told to go into town (even though in the welcome folder it said these things would be available at reception). The food was overall very good. I was somewhat surprised to have to pay supplements at breakfast for smoked salmon with my eggs or an omlette (every other hotel of this standard I have stayed in includes such items). The bar was very relaxed and enjoyable. Again, it was sometimes disappointing that most of the tables with views were reserved for customers who weren't staying in the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, but it would have been good for some kind of view other than the wall opposite. Had we have realised we would have asked for another room. The spa was a welcome addition and the meals in the evening in the restaurant were excellent.

I have stayed so many times in knockranny with my family or with my husband over the years so I disappointed that I've to leave such a review. We checked in and unknown to me my mother had left a voucher behind reception for me as it was my birthday. We opted to pay balance when we checked in and receptionist just said, do you want to use voucher towards balance. I didnt know about it so she said I can read it for you if you want. Which obviously we did. Anyway we figured out It was a surprise from my mum but the way she dealt with it took the goodness out of it. She was so matter of fact. I informed her it was my birthday and my husbands also but the receptionist breezed past what I said and just informed me of the balance. We got to our room 311 and it was small! To be fair they had left a happy birthday card and 4 choclates in room which was nice. But any other room id stayed in was a double and it was lovely but this one was more like a b&b room and for the price €270 approx, it was v over rated. The receptionist also informed us that the only breakfast option was 8am or 8.30am but we could avail of room service if that didn't suit for €5.50. We literally left bags in room and went back downstairs when I overheard a different receptionist tell guests that 10am or 8am was available for breakfast so I don't know why we weren't told that option. My husbands white shirt was ruined by the iron in room as there seemed to be some plastic stuck on it. Asked for another one and they didn't enquire or even apologise about his shirt. Check out then we saw we were charged €5.50 each for breakfast even though it was one tray, its pricey. Just felt for €300 or more spent for a room and breakfast, there is definitely nicer in westport and better value for money which I thought id never say as this used to be my fav hotel in westport. We weren't allowed a drink in the main bar, we wer questioned as to whether we ate in their restaurant and what we ate. If we didnt eat there we had to go away from main bar and go down a quiet hall to a 'cocktail bar' really lacking in atmosphere. Dont think ill return if I'm honest. I know my husband won't book it! It was all small things but when I think of the money and price of things it wasnt worth it. Not how it used to be

Arrived to the hotel at approximately 2pm and enquired if early check-in was available. Totally understandable that room wasn't ready but thought receptionist could have at least taken our phone number and said she would call us when the room was ready.
Went for lunch in the bar while waiting to check-in...an extremely disappointing meal. My mother went for soup for starters which was lovely. She then had fishcakes for the main, mostly potato mix and unappealing with very little fish in them. I opted for just a main course and ordered the buttermilk chicken with chips, and sides of onion rings and pepper sauce. When the chicken arrived at the table I immediately thought it was a very small portion and not good value at €16.95. I got the chips and the onion rings (which were delicious, best part of meal) but the pepper sauce never came. I notified the waitress. However almost 10 minutes later, still no pepper sauce so called over a different waitress (the lady that took our order) and eventually it arrived when I was almost finished my meal.
Now I don't know how it could be called pepper sauce as we both tasted it and couldn't get any hint of pepper from it at all, more like a greasy gravy. Overall, extremely disappointing.
We then checked in and were given no info on restaurant times etc from the receptionist. Got our luggage and then noticed the lift was out of order. Really would be a good idea for reception to notify guests of this on check-in and offer to arrange luggage to be brought to the room.

The bedrooms are gorgeous with a lovely view of Croagh Patrick. Fantastic comfortable mattresses and pillows and a spacious bathroom.
We had to ring reception for hand towels as only had bath towels in bathroom. Also the audio on the TV was a good 5 seconds ahead of the picture, hard to watch anything. We let reception know about this too.

We had breakfast booked for 8.45am and were accommodated at a lovely window table. However staff were under serious pressure and it was clear to see that the restaurant was extremely understaffed. We waited approx. 20 minutes for our order to be taken and then it was after 9.30am before we even got a glass of orange juice. The menu outlined supplements of €2 for smoked salmon or pancakes... Hard to justify at the prices of the accommodation in the first place.
I went for cooked breakfast, forgot my eggs but eventually got them. Food was very tasty.

Overall the lunch and breakfast experience resulted in a disappointing stay. Paying €190 for a twin room for midweek bed and breakfast, I'd expect better customer service which was unfortunately impossible due to clear short staffing issues.

Having visited Knockranny on several occasions we were delighted to be able to return again this year. We were a little apprehensive because of the strange times we are living in, however the hotel had everything organised to minimise risk. Knockranny always has a high standard of cleanliness, and the addition of well-positioned sanitising stations and good social distancing arranging added a layer of welcome protection.

We had excellent support from Debbie before arrival to ensure we got the room we wanted and table bookings for dinner each evening that gave us super views of the sun setting over Clew Bay.

From beginning to end of our 3 night stay, every member of staff delivered a high quality service; friendly, courteous and efficient as usual. It was clear that Covid arrangements put additional pressure on staff, however, everyone kept smiling and ensured we had everything that we needed.

The food was excellent - the only complaint being that by the third day we had eaten far too much! Looking forward to our next visit already.

we had an amazing stay but we found everything was just that bit over priced. Especially in the Spa where the manicure and Pedicure both consisted of feet and hand in water and then directly on to the polish. There was so scrub or massage of hands and feet. I found the pregnancy massage over priced at 105 and would have valued it about 80. The evening meal, while so tasty and not at all to be faulted was just a bit too expensive at 43 for a steak I was expecting it to be cooked to perfection. Don't get me wrong the stay was wonderful the food was amazing and the rooms were so comfortable. The staff were so friendly and while I usually would not have faulted anything I do feel the over all cost of our night away was just over value.

my husband & i enjoyed our 3 night b& b stay.breakfast very substantial with plenty to choose from to suit all tastes & diets served in a lovely roomy dining room with views from the large bay windows by pleasant, helpful staff.
room excellent .roomy with a good bathroom & all cleaned to a very high standard
my only problem was sleeping under the duvet despite turning off the heating & having windows open all night long.choice of a lighter duvet would solve help to solve that.
