Our first family camping was here last weekend and it was a massive success.

We had arrived a couple of hours early (accidentally on purpose) as we have had the wettest weather and we hoped to get our tent pitched in the sunshine! And we succeeded!!! Thanks to the lovely crew members for allowing us on site!

We were in the area that also houses caravans and campervans too and we loved it. Having the electric hook up was a massive advantage, huge tea drinkers and having an electric kettle is a must.

The toilet block was about 20 meters from us, really well placed actually, in the centre of all the pitches. Toilets were cleaned regularly, as we're the showers. Hand santisier on the walls. Hot water is plentyful. Be warned it can be too hot. Couldn't figure out how to adjust the temperature in the ladies sinks (husband said it was the same in the men's) but most of the taps were stuck on hot and the water was boiling. I did mention it to two of the crew members so they said they'd look into it. The showers are free, they are the push showers and it only let's a blast of water out for about 10 seconds. Again the shower was scalding, if you kept pressing the button constantly then it was an OK temperature. But I didn't press it to put shampoo in my hair and when I pressed it again it was scalding. Again mentioned to the crew. May have been that shower as others seemed to use it without having that issue. But other than that everything was perfect.

The grounds are just stunning for a walk, cycle, scoot! Lots for kids, trees to climb, water to throw stones, a bridge to race sticks!

The pirate park, playground and sandpit are all closed at the moment but this made zero difference to our experience, the kids just loved it.

It was just magic to see kids be kids again, play and have fun. Especially after such a long time staying at home.

No on site shop, lidl it about a 5 min drive which is handy although I do like when there's a little shop there for the likes of milk or basics.

Plenty of fresh water taps throughout the site too, one every 4 pitches or so so nobody would have to go far.

The bin area had santisier on entry / exit. It's kept clean. Would be a great idea if possible to have a food bin!

Overall I can't fault this site, it was fantastic. The crew are all lovely and friendly. The onsite restaurant is lovely and not overly expensive. The site is clean, there's a lovely atmosphere. Actually on the Sunday night the security lady came around and said hello to everyone which was really nice!

And also to mention the grounds of westport house has a sensory garden! Really cool addition that might be of major benefit to some families!

Can't wait to book another visit, it's almost a 4 hour drive for us so we'll absolutely stay for longer than this time.

Lilly - thank you so much for your custom and for taking the time to write, we really appreciate both. Your kind words have made our team's day as we all want our guests to leave saying "can't wait to book another visit". Thanks for the tip re the hot water, we have our plumber working to regulate this to a comfortable level and we will look at putting instructions in the bathrooms regarding use of the taps. We are so glad that your first camping trip was such a success and we look forward to welcoming you back to stay with us in the future. Be well - Biddy Hughes

We stayed here as a family and couldn't recommend the campsite and facilities highly enough. The toilet and shower facilities were cleaned regularly and the grounds are really exceptional for camping with beautiful walks, the quay, the town centre close by and Gracy's bar/restaurant if you don't want to cook. My kids loved the pizzas and there was a relaxed atmosphere even though all guidelines were adhered to consistently and the staff were so helpful. We loved our stay, were never bored and will definitely be back next year when the Pirate Adventure park will be up and running.

We have stayed multiple times in Westport House and love the site. Westport is such a great spot with loads to do with the Greenway and beaches and Croagh Patrick. The kids missed the Pirate Adventure Park for around 5 minutes on arrival and then promptly forgot as they explored the woodland and trails around the beautiful estate. The gardens are stunning in full bloom and the story of the house is fascinating. And we couldn’t have felt safer. The cleaners were on the go the whole time, constantly cleaning the showers, toilets and wash up areas. Hand sanitising stations everywhere along with reminders to physically distance. The reception team and night time security couldn’t have been more helpful and reassuring. We love this site and highly recommend it for your post lockdown camping trip. We had a blast. So good to get away to the great outdoors.

This was our first visit from before lockdown, and to say we were disappointed was an understatement.

This camp site does not adhere to social distancing at all, in fact it seems that they are willing to squeeze as many campers into a field as possible.

If I hadn’t brought my own sanitising spray, I wouldn’t have been near the showers or wash up area. The showers have moths on the walls, no room to move, hair all over the floor and no ability to change the temperature. If you have children, please avoid this as the showers are scalding hot.

We were there for 2 nights, I only saw 1 security guard at around 12am patrolling for noise. There was nobody cleaning any of the facilities. We tried to use the pizzeria but they stop selling take out at 7pm and refused to serve us, even after we offered to sit outside.

If you do choose to go, try and use the shower at the front of the camp site as they are slightly better, albeit still not ability to control the water temperature.

I had higher expectations given the relation with Westport House and the gardens and that it was more expansive that other campsites. However, this site is very noisy and very busy and I would advise against staying here until it is safe to do so.

Dear hwarren00 - Thanks for taking the time to review us and indeed for your custom. I am so sorry to read of your feedback and would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss it in person. We take our customers safety very seriously and have a thorough cleaning regime in place - further, we are constantly reviewing how we may improve it. Customer feedback is very helpful to us in this regard. If I may, I would like to respond to your comments - - We have an ongoing cleaning schedule of 2x cleaners at all times from 7am to 9pm constantly covering our 3x toilet/shower blocks and 2x wash up spaces. In fact, we are adding 2 more cleaners in the morning and evening to ensure that we are able to attend to all facilities on a more regular basis. - We have sanitising stations at each of the facility entrances (bathrooms, bins, toilets, showers, wash up areas, water points) - We have opened up an additional block of toilet facilities that were unavailable until now from 2-10pm so that we may offer more space to our campers - We have signs throughout the site reminding guests to practice social distancing and have ample space - The temperature in the showers is something we are working on, it is tricky to moderate it because of the type of system that it is but rest assured that our maintenance team are working on it and trying to get it to a comfortable temperature for all ages. - Our night porter/security guard works from 8pm to 4am each night and partrols the two sites constantly in a high vis jacket. Each camper is given the phone number should there by an issue. On busier nights, we have 2 people rostered. Our night time curfew is 11pm and we work hard to maintain that as we appreciate that our campers want a good night's sleep. Occasionally, some of our guests get a little carried away and our night porter generally takes good care of nipping that in the bud. - Gracy's Pizzeria offers take out from 1pm to 6pm and thereafter, it focuses on diners who are sitting in. Like many restaurants, we must take advanced reservations in Gracy's to allow us to socially distance our guests and offer everyone a safe and enjoyable dining experience. I'm sorry that we were not able to accommodate you. I hope that this gives you an insight into some of the issues you have raised. I welcome the opportunity to talk to you, please call our office to ask for me if you'd like to discuss further. Best wishes, Biddy Hughes

Westport house has some lovely grounds to walk and great for kids. Only problem was the dirty toilets and showers. I refused to shower my kids in these conditions they were safer not doing so. The tiled walls were rotten, sink and over flowing sanitary bins. The girls were there twice a day cleaning but was just not good enough. The showers and toilets need to be power washed completely and sanatised. I had to ask the girl to refill the soap in the ladies toilets. During times like these I would advise not to stay here until it is safe to do so.
On the other hand the staff were accommodating and changed our booking because of the weather we appreciated that.

Dear M8390FPcarolinem, Thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to share your feedback. And thanks for your kind comments on our team's helpfulness, the grounds and our suitability for kids. I am very sorry to read that you found our toilets and showers dirty. We appreciate how critical cleanliness is to our guests in choosing to stay with us and we take our campers' - and your - safety very seriously. We have a team of cleaners (at least two at all times) constantly cleaning our three bathrooms and shower blocks and two wash up areas from 7am to 9pm daily so I can assure you they are being cleaned and sanitised many more times than twice a day. Regarding our sanitary bins, they were indeed overflowing one day this week but our external provider came to empty them for us as soon as they could. We hope that this gives you some comfort and an understanding of how seriously we take our guests' safety. Our team is working hard to offer a clean and safe holiday to our guests and we will continue to do so. If you would like to discuss this further, please give me a call in the office at your convenience. Be well, Biddy Hughes

First trip away with the family in a long time and have nothing but good things to say about camping experience at Westport House. The campsite itself was spotless and we noticed regular cleaning of the bathroom facilities (this had been a concern going away). We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and eating at the Gracys was just fantastic- the pizzas went down a treat. Will hopefully return before the summer is out.

Just back from a 3 day camping trip to Westport House Camping. I must say a big thanks to all the staff on site. They were all were doing a great job with a smile. Special mention to the staff cleaning the: loos, showers, toilets and washing area - they were working non stop and especially in this Covid time - providing a super service. And also the friendly night time security staff - doing the rounds in a jolly way.
Also the staff on reception ,cheers guys and gals.
The location is perfect and extremely clean.
Comes highly recommended, Leonard

Stayed at Westport House in the early summer of 2022 (June, not August); just catching up with a review.

Overall, we were very happy with this site and the quality of the facilities. Check in was efficient, and we were directed to a pitch within easy walking distance of the toilet block. This was excellent, possibly the best we experienced in the course of our trip, with plenty of (non coin operated) hot showers and large washing up area. I can't remember the nightly charge, but it was in line with UK Caravan and Motorhome Club sites we have visited - definitely not cheap, but reasonable value given the location and facilities, I think.

The site was in easy walking distance from the town, along a pleasant path through the grounds. We didn't visit the house, as it was closed, but there's lots to do in Westport - it's a great little place!

What an unreal place for kids and grown ups. Plenty of space for tents even on a busy August in amazing weather. We booked the pirate adventure park in advance for one day as we only stated for 3 nights. If you are staying for a week it’s definitely worth going to the ticketing office and upgrading your ticket to a membership so you have access to the adventure park and can use the train around the park every day as well as getting 10% off food.
The park is a bit of a walk to town but doable.
There’s loads to see and do.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, and curfew is strictly 11 so it’s great when you have a little one.
There’s plenty of toilets, showers and washing up areas as well as water stations dotted around the park. The toilets and showers were cleaned regularly.
We will definitely be back!

Just back from a lovely 2 night stay with 2 kids (3&5). We stayed in the glamping area and it was fab. Beds were really comfy with good high quality mattresses and Bedlinen. Maybe the management should think about popping on some mattress protectors it would definitely be worth it. Showers, sinks, kitchen areas were all spotless and every staff member was so polite, helpful and friendly. The 1 thing that is.missing from this camp site is a little shop selling essentials like milk, bread, water etc. Overall a lovely place and we will be returning.
