We stayed for a couple of nights and must say I felt disappointed compared to my expectations and what I paid. The place feels like it needs investment. The TV in the room was an old CRT box TV with only 5 channels and nothing for the kids. The walls in the room were thin, and we had trouble sleeping as could hear the guests next door speaking loudly. None of this is the staff's fault, as in fact they resolved the noise issue promptly and were nice and welcoming during our stay. They are doing their best, but the hotel simply felt worn and tired. Another small example was one of the two lights for the entrance sign was broken. For covid, there were hand sanitisers in public places throughout the hotel, but there was no limit on guests in the lift. Also most bar staff wore face masks, however a small number did not and did get quite close to us. The breakfast buffet was served buffet, but the queues felt quite close together and would have preferred salt sachets instead of shakers. This may seem like a small thing, but I have stayed in other hotels who took more covid measures and have felt the difference. If the rumours about it being supposed to be a nursing home before covid struck are true, it makes sense. The staff do a good job, but there doesn't appear to be money being spent on this hotel.

We stayed for a week in the Residences self catering apartments at Breaffy Woods Hotel at the end of August. Apartment was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Some nice touches with the welcome pack on arrival. We booked the pool slots in advance - 45 min slot was just right and you could see the obvious effort to clean the changing areas between slots. In fact sanitising in general was obvious throughout the Woods Hotel & House Resort. While Castlebar itself is pretty unspectacular, we used it as a base to explore further afield..... Westport, Achill, Enniscrone, Belmullet, Céide Fields.
Breaffy Woods Residences is a 3 star accommodation with access to 4 star facilities. Perfect self catering option for families. Can't praise the hotel and staff enough.

Just back from our 3 day stay in Castlebar and I could not recommend the hotel highly enough for families. From the Fairy Forest to the play grounds and forest walks there are plenty to do in between our day trips to Westport etc. Staff are a credit to the Hotel and could not have been more helpful. There was a bit of confusion with our pre booked slots for the swimming pool so I do recommend booking times well in advance and confirming with the leisure centre. Food was lovely, breakfast well run and not over crowded. Tip just be organised and ensure your dinner and breakfast times are booked in advance and your swimming times 👍

Lady on check in was lovely as we're most of the staff..
some were rude..
we were promised robes for pool which never came.
No back Daniels in both hotels and it's what my husband always drinks.
pints of Heineken were terrible.
only Americano available in woods bar.
rooms were dated and the body hair wash doesn't even foam up while trying to wash hair only gave us 4 between 5 people.. room only serviced every 4th day so I was lucky I met the cleaning ladies outside for extra milk towels etc.
Big old box t.v. in room that gave off a high frequency sound that was affecting my kids ears so I couldn't turn it on.. practically had to beg for a replacement and then just replaced if with another the same this was on a night where we just wanted to relax in our room and what something together as a family and we all ended up on tablets and fones..
no games room as which is advertised on here..
No effort made to do anything different for the kids during this time fun and games could have been done outside but no.
over 3 days we had one pool session for 45mins.
My children were so bored here.
playgrounds and mini golf a lit smaller than described.
Food in main hotel was nice but overpriced..
I honestly would have been better staying at home.
What an absolute waste of hard earned money..
NEVER AGAIN
We were also told that it was up for sale and was meant to be sold as a nursing home but plans were put on hold because of covid 19.
This explains why things are so ran down and no effort is being made for families who have no other choice but to stay home this year..
its embarrassing.
left as soon as possible this morning because we could not wait to leave.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was the worst three
nights sleep in my life, the room had no airconditioning or any sort of ventilation, it was so hot I was finding it hard to breathe. I made a complaint to reception and I was told it hot all over there is nothing we can do.
I was in a hotel in ballina earlier in the week and they gave me a fan and complimentary cold bottled water throughout our stay,
Is was extremely hot that week but they did not help the situation . I paid a lot of money for the break and I did not enjoy it all..
I made a official complaint by email now its over 2 weeks later and no reply

My partner booked a two day midweek stay for us this August. We were so excited after reading about about the activities the resort had to offer. We booked a family room as we have a two year old and upon entering the hotel it was very basic. The room itself was basic, very outdated. The wood on the cabinets was worn, the linen on the bed was faded and worn and the double mattress was super flimsy and old. I'm currently 5 months pregnant and put down an awful sleep the two nights we stayed, not to mention there was no ventilation or air con??? Food was rated well at Healy Macs so we ate there the first night. Super average food nothing special, very over priced. The next morning we had breakfast which was lovely and really well run. We visited the pool and it was good, the staff at the leisure centre seemed a bit scattered about telling people when to go in but it was OK. I visited the spa which I could not fault, Stephanie was amazing from beginning to finish. She is fantastic and a credit to the place! Changing room in leisure centre had no keys or towels which was a bit of a nuisance. Later that day I rang to see if Healy Macs had a lunch menu (sandwich or that) and they said they serve the same menu all day. We headed into town for lunch. Later that evening we ate in Woods bar. Again, very basic and super over priced however it was convient for us as it was close to the room. The smell of cigarette smoke covered the hall ways of the hotel and bar area as people had to smoke outside the windows there seemed to be no area to go to. The smell was horrendous. The grounds itself seemed lovely but it rained the entire time during our stay so we couldn't avail of the nature trails or playground. The staff I could not fault, they were all so lovely, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. All in all, it was too pricey for what we got and I can't see us returning again.

Amazing experience in the heart of Mayo.
Sarah at reception was brilliant, efficient and very knowledgeable about local attractions.
Family rooms very spacious, walks on grounds perfect for kids, and outdoor bar was great in warm evenings.
Staff in bar very helpful, menu basic but food very tasty and pizza kept kids happy, breakfast staff great with kids and very helpful, pancakes were great treat and popular with all.
Would highly recommend for families.

Travelled far to get here but did due to the amazing pictures on the website. Arrived and realised the Breaffy woods hotel was next door to a Vaccine centre and the car park was quite busy. Eventually got parked and the got booked in that's when we realised Breaffy Woods is basically the budget version of Breaffy house which is also on the resort and a 5 minute walk away,. The rooms were very basic and so was the overall hotel. It was clean and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was also fine. The pool you had to walk into the Breaffy house area and you had access to there pool which I must say was amazing and the kids loved. The park and the mini golf was also outside Breaffy house and both the kids loved. Overall the grounds in front of Breaffy house were amazing. it had fairy walks and woodland trails which the kids loved. Next time I come 100% I will book Breaffy house Hotel as the rooms and the actual hotels looked amazing compared to Breaffy woods and the cost wasn't much more.

Stayed here with another family for our annual summer holiday. Very reasonable price wise, kids had a ball between the pool, playground and crazy golf facilities. The wait staff and the bar staff were so friendly and accommodating and made us feel very welcome with particular mention to Marcus, James and Aoife in the Woods Hotel and Kaitriona in the House Hotel. The food in both hotels was lovely but became repetitive after 5 days. Very suitable for families.

Stayed in Breaffy Woods for 3 nights lately after a lovely three night break at the Diamond Coast Hotel in Sligo. Family room was a joke. Not at all suitable for 2 adults and 3 children! Was literally a double room with three single beds squeezed in!!
Bathroom and shower were very basic. Sink was blocked so we had to move rooms about an hour after checkin. Man on reception desk was so slow at checkin and very unhelpful when keys wouldnt work. One couple had to go to him about keys 5 times!! He tried to blame them! Decor of whole hotel is very dated with a very drab brown theme. Our television probably dated from the 1980s! It had about 8 fuzzy channels. None for children!!! No drinking water in rooms. Had to go to the bar and ask for a carafe of water for the children for night time. Bar staff and some of the breakfast staff were friendly. Management seemed non existant.
All in all I would not recommend this hotel to families. It needs to up its game!!
