I have stayed on many occasions at the Ellison and it never fails to impress. The hotel is ideally located - close to Castlebar town centre , lovely Lough Lannagh walks , amenities such as the swimming pool, Churches and Shops. The hotel's rooms are always impeccable, breakfast is super but it is the staff that really shine and make visits here memorable. From reception to bar and restaurant staff , they are always extremely friendly and attentive - I will certainly be back !
We had a staff Christmas party in the restaurant in the Ellison. The Christmas party menu had a great selection available. The staff that looked after us gave excellent customer service. The food was delicious. Also stayed in the hotel that night. Smooth, professional check in. Clean and comfortable room. Lovely breakfast the following morning and hassle free check out. All in all highly recommended.
There is something really special about this hotel ~ it’s one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in and a well deserved 4 star , My partner & I were treated like royalty ! The hotel is impeccably clean everywhere with a most pleasant contemporary decor , the rooms are so spacious and bright with everything u could possibly ask for & the beds are so So Comfy . The breakfast in the restaurant was unreal - himself got the full Irish while I got a lovely selection of cold meats ,cheese, yoghurts & fruit followed by the hot vegetarian option which was made to order . Everything about This hotel exceeded our expectations , we want to return ASAP ! 💚
This was my fourth stay at the hotel (first time as The Ellison) but it wasn't as comfortable as previous stays and the atmosphere wasn't as warm. Not sure why it is 4 star - it is a typical 3 star hotel. Positives - the location is great - across the road from Lough Lannagh and a service station with washing/drying machines, a couple of minutes walk to bus stop, supermarkets, and shops. Negatives - there used to be a fridge in the room, but that had been taken out; shouting and banging on doors in the night from a neighbour was disturbing but fortunately, it was only for one night; had to book a breakfast time when I checked in and so only had 1 out of three breakfasts during my 3 night stay (seemed to be the norm this trip to Ireland, though have never done this before - has nothing to do with social distancing as I was sitting right next to another person); room clean and comfortable but was a bit drab. Basically, I felt the hotel had deteriorated from past visits. …
The Ellison is the best hotel in Castlebar, from you arrive until you depart the staff look after all your needs. From the manager Loretto to all the staff they are superb and so friendly. The food in the Siar restauirant is 10 out of 10 delicious and better. We have been staying in The Ellison over the past few years and have been there 3 times this year, Its just a fantastic hotel, rooms are spacious with superbly comfortable beds. Next year we will be back for sure.
Just back from lovely relaxing weekend in this fabulous hotel in Castlebar. Cannot recommend it enough. Staff so friendly, food delicious and all staff couldnt do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms spotless, excellent food and pleasant staff makes all the difference. We will be back.
Stayed here for one night while on a course in the area .. Great hotel with friendly and helpful staff .. Room was very clean and spacious and bed was very comfortable.. Had a meal in the restaurant which was fantastic and service was great .. Breakfast was a buffet which had plenty to choose from and food was good .. only negative was I asked for a latte with the breakfast and was told I would be charged extra for it .. it’s a standard coffee now days so should not be charged for it
We went as a coach party of 43 and everything at the start of our 5 day (Mon Fri,) stay was nigh on perfect. However on the Thursday another coach party arrived and we were left feeling like 2nd class citizens in the restaurant. I would say the food is very good Also, for those thinking about booking, there are only two rooms with walk in showers, (wet rooms,) and the baths are very high, (around 70 to 80 cm,) and quite difficult to get in and out of. ,( l'm 6ft tall and found it quite awkward. There are no rubber mats for the floor of the baths, so there is a bit of a slip hazard.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Ellison. The reception staff could not have been more helpful. We found the rooms comfortable and spacious, and dinner in the hotel was great. We would thoroughly recommend it this hotel.
This hotel is four stars, which follows through in relation to the hotel decor (well the reception, not so much the hallway), the room, the cleaning team and the location. The food however was mediocre and the service was nice in some areas but frankly rude in others. I was visiting a friend for a night who had a three bed room in the hotel. I appeared down for breakfast and simply had a small bowl of cereal & orange juice, which they charged me €10 for because I wasn’t an official guest. I didn’t mind paying extra for staying, but the breakfast was a bit much when the cereal wasn’t exactly fancy museli. Then the staff proceeded to point at me throughout breakfast, gathered other staff to see this “rogue guest” and made me feel like I was dirt for even sitting there. They then proceeded to look me up & down, as I left and I had to use the car park exit to stop their judgy eyes as I passed reception. They then didn’t help my friend for the rest of his stay, which was another week, because they were pissed. I work in the corporate world & I think if a situation like that occurs, the advice isn’t to essentially point, laugh and bully from a distance… I shall not be returning, as I’d rather be treated nicely and by more modern thinking staff.…
