We had a wonderful overnight stay here and would have been happy to stay a lot longer!! We had a beautiful apartment with lovely views!! The host left lots of food in the fridge, a range of cereals, yogurt drinks, bread, jam cheese and milk which were unexpected but a really nice touch! The apartment was spacious and spotless! Easy access to Westport we can't recommend this enough!! Thanks for a wonderful stay :)

Amazing, we had a lovely apartment, great views, spacious and spotless. The bed was huge and so comfy, attention to detail was superb. Breakfast foods were left in kitchen, so we had a lovely start to the day with cereals, bread etc. We were at a show at Castlebar theatre and it was just perfect, fab restaurants in town. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Chris and Janette ❤️

Just wonderful! My husband and I stayed in one apartment, and our young adult sons in the other. Each area was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Martina left juice, eggs, bread, and jams to have for breakfast. Larry was helpful giving directions, even writing them out for us. We have family in the area, and would certainly stay again when we are lucky enough to come back and visit!

I stayed for a weekend with some friends recently in the Garden Gates in Islandeady, Co Mayo.
The house is set off the main road next to Islandeady Church. Its a beautiful home and made very welcoming by the owners Martina and Brendan. The rooms were huge and really comfortable and immaculately clean.
Breakfast was excellent, with a special mention for the white pudding.
I'd highly recommend The Garden Gates to anyone looking for a stay in the area. The house is convenient to Westport, Castlebar and Newport and not far from some of the other beauty spots in Mayo, like Achill, Pontoon or Killary

Many thanks to Martina, Brendan and family.

My wife and I had a lovely time at Garden Gate. The Garden Gate is situated close to Westport but is off the main road near a church and lake. Its a really beautiful area and we enjoyed walking on the small roads around the area. The room we had was modern, large and comfortable and also had those really good showers (sometimes not always the case with B&Bs. The owners are friendly and really helpful. They were able to recommended some great restaurants to go to in Westport. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and so would definitely return if we were visiting the area again.

Actually, it was the best of ALL 6 we experienced throughout Mayo, Donegal, the Antrim coast, and Belfast during our trip. While many of them greeted us with tea and a nice (but store-bought) snack, Brendan and Martina at Garden Gates greeted us with tea and a warm, homemade strawberry and rhubarb cobbler upon our late evening arrival.

MOST impressive was the incredible water pressure, and wonderfully roomy shower, and the BEDS were at a comfort level that we'd buy one for our home. They did NOT skimp on the amenities for their guests.

Breakfast was terrific, and the view, the grounds, and even the horses were beautiful! (Especially the week-and-a-half old foal - CUTIE!)

We recently spent a week in Ireland, starting in Dublin and winding up and over. We stopped in towns including Bushmills, Donegal, Sligo, Clifden, Castlebar, Westport, Ballyshannon, Galway, and scenic stops like Giant's Causeway, Slieve League and the Aran Islands. We stayed in fancy hotels, inns, b&b's and self-catered apartments. The Garden Gates was my wife's favorite accommodation. That's all I need to say.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our 2 week vacation. We traveled through all parts of Ireland in the 2 weeks and this B & B was by far the best place we stayed. The hospitality outranked the others and the comfort could not be beat. The shared family room (den) was cozy, we felt right at home watching the world cup matches! The owners here made my kids feel welcome and the breakfast was made to order and to please. If I ever make it back to Ireland, I would definately stay here again. By the way, the foal was a bit bigger now, but still a highlight- came right over to my boys and let them pet her(him?) We had 5 people in one of the "family suites" and we were quite comfortable- very spacious.

I stayed here on a midweek night with 2 colleagues. I didn't book but my colleague who had done so had no difficulties. We needed GPS to find the Garden Gates and arrived while there was still plenty of light. The driveway and front of the house are unpretentious yet attractive. There's plenty of parking space. The horses grazing nearby and the fields beyond enhance the setting.
Martina met us at the door and asked if we would want a fire in the living room. As we were going to Westport not too long after, we didn't need it. We picked our rooms at random. I was in the "Lilac" room, but my colleague's "Rose" room looked more attractive (I didn't see the third room). Martina made us a cup of tea and presented us with a slice of cake each - very welcoming.
Breakfast menus had been left in our rooms and there was a great selection for such a small place.
I slept very well and enjoyed my poached eggs the next morning in the lovely little dining room. I'm not easily pleased by coffee in hotels and other venues, so tend to opt for tea if ground coffee isn't available. I was delighted to hear Martina had a "plunger", that she had ground the coffee herself and that she would warm up some milk for me. Very obliging but I should have specified that I liked my coffee strong. Good points: the location, the setting, the welcome, the choices, and the comfort. I thought the selection of games in the living room was good. I don't really have any complaints ... well, maybe the wooden floors but there was no one running up and down them!
Well done, Martina. Great value at €50.

This B&B is excellent I wished we could have spent a week in this house. The bedroom and the bath were both very large and super clean with many extras like a basket full of towels so one could chose . The breakfast was great especially Brendan's French Toast Some of the best I have ever eaten. I would go back in a heartbeat.
