Detailed Reviews
Stayed one night. Arrived late in the night so the duty manager the next day allowed us a late check out which was very much appreciated. The triple room was comfortable and spacious but was outdated and is need of refurbishment. Noticed that other areas of the hotel is in need of refurbishment too - paint chippings in particular around the door frames. I felt the room was a bit over priced but then again hotel prices seemed to have increased during these times. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Hotel is in a good location with Castlebar Main Street being under a 10 minute walk away. Car parking spaces seemed limited.

A staff team of 10 people ate dinner in the green room . We all had different meals to eat and each Person enjoyed the meal. The area itself is lovely and spacious .
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Over all we will be returning in the future and I will be suggesting to others.

Some rooms very small and pokey, reception not very welcoming. Young fella serving in the restaurant is very friendly, very good roast beef and the breakfast isn't bad. Leave a trail of breadcrumbs to your room if you're planning on supping.

Response from Pat Jennings, Owner at TF Royal Hotel and Theatre
Responded 13 Jun 2021
Thank you for your message, There are a few rooms which are not as large as some people would like, but all of our rooms are within regulation. The majority of our rooms are are larger than normal. Our Family owned Hotel is under constant change and now is almost complete . The bedrooms do feature different corridoors, but the product is good. Pat Jennings MD

Attended a concert here last night and we booked a table in the restaurant beforehand. It was a set menu as a result of the show which was fine but the food was clearly pre prepared and reheated and was simply not good. We went to order drinks and our server, who was a lovely girl and this is in no way her fault as she was just following orders, informed us that she could only serve our drinks in plastic cups- we had ordered a bottle of prosecco. Ridiculous protocol seeing as this was at 5pm in the evening in the restaurant and the gig was not due to start for several hours. Not sure what they thought we were going to be doing with the glasses. Poor service really, we left immediately after finishing the food, will not be returning if we ever attend another gig there.

This review relates to the theatre. We attended a concert there it was an awful experience. No staff to show you what direction to go once you passed front door, eventually we got to the balcony area where we were seated eventually we found an usher directed us to the wrong seats which we had to get up out of again.
Makeshift bar on a table outside the balcony area with two clueless bar staff and overinflated prices. The bar staying open during the performance also with people going in an out carrying and spilling drinks over everyone and us having to get up and down constantly to let them in and out of our row. I have been to countless theatres over the years and the bars always close during the performance for this very reason.
There was a rowdy crowd sitting in front and behind us, we couldn't hear a thing because they were chatting, roaring and standing up during the performance the so called security ignored this and were actually laughing at the very intoxicated woman who kept standing up and shouting.
We used to enjoy coming to this venue but it has seriously gone downhill, never again. We will go to a proper theatre where you can enjoy and hear the performance in peace.

Rough hotel room needs serious updating, staff, whilst all very nice seemed very poorly trained and uncoordinated, especially at breakfast. When I brought the issue up I was called a liar by the owner ! Definitely Won’t be back. Also it is far too expensive for what it is. Seems the owner is capitalising on the theatre and location to the Hospital at the expense of the hotel rooms and staff training.

We ate in the restaurant as a group. I ordered a chicken burger which was inedible, the chicken you could not cut it with a steak knife. It was rock hard. Very poor service. The chicken burger was taken off the bill. When I informed staff there was no apology, I was told it must have been their suppliers fault. Very poor service.

One of the worst meals we have ever had! We went yesterday I had the salmon which was dry and overcooked, veg soggy and hardly any sauce,I have no idea why there was half a cold roast potato on the plate. My husband had chicken burger also well overcooked and dry. Service was bad not once did anybody ask us if everything was ok or offer us coffee or dessert and they were not busy as there were only 8 people apart from 2 toddlers. We went to pay and just got asked if we wanted a table then said we had eaten so we’re told go to the bar. Terrible food, terrible service, terrible atmosphere. I normally just vote with my feet and not leave a review but this was really bad.

I have never had such a bad experience in a hotel in my life.
It started with my booking being misplaced despite getting a phone call the day before to being given a small room in the hotel after being rudely asked to produce the reservation number. We had booked a superior king room. We were told we would be upgraded. I paid the full price of the booking no reduction for not receiving the small room.to then the filling day being rudely treated in the bar when the room was empty had a table booked for 7 went down earlier for a drink to be sat waiting 20 minutes for a menu to order to then having items from our order not given to us and being on the bill. I will never return or stay in this hotel just save yourself the bother and book somewhere else not worth the castle
