We are just back from three nights in this hotel. It has been wonderfully restored. The ceiling etc are a joy to see. We had a four poster bed with lovely stained glass windows. The room also had as we requested a walk in shower. The finish, the towels soap bedlinen etc. are of a high standard. The hotel is very clean which is of course always very welcome but is especially reassuring now. The outside seating came into its own during the hot weather. The food was excellent. We had a light bite from the catering truck one lunchtime and had our evening meal every night from the gastro pub menu. That would be my only issue with Scholars. The restaurant was not open and we found the menu to be limited both at breakfast and during the day. All the staff were friendly and helped us…
I had not been to Scholars for some time due to Covid restrictions, so was looking forward to meeting friends there a few weeks ago. On entering I was met by a rather sour young waiter and explained I would like a table for one (or maybe 3) for lunch. A disembodied voice called out 'They can only stay for an hour'.....it transpired that First Communion was local and they were expecting booked tables. I was shown to a table and asked Young Mr. Sour for a drink. Waited, and then asked a waitress, smiling and pleasant, who brought me my drink immediately. From then on things improved immensely. My Caesar Chicken Salad was delicious, and I then paid because my friends had decided on coffee outside. Staff at till very nice, and I headed out to sit with my two friends. …
Charming, historic hotel. Room 115, a Superior Double, was small (all ex monks cells) with lovely stained glass windows, comfortable four-poster bed & good quality bathroom. Great breakfast served in the gorgeous main dining room. However Room 115 had "internal" windows onto a courtyard housing the extremely loud kitchen extractor fan which was on from 4.30 when we checked in until 10.30pm when, having already complained of the noise & smell and been told it would be off by 9pm, we finally persuaded the night manager to get it turned off so we could sleep. Would stay again but never in room 115. Ask for a room with window to the outside.
After touring all day we stayed the night at Scholar's Townhouse -- a beautifully restored 1867 building - each room unique. And the hotel's restaurant served a meal we will always remember -- our family of five each order a separate entre and no one was disappointed. Hospitality and warmth from the staff made the stay even more memorable.
We had an amazing meal here last night. We had a beautiful salmon and risotto dish. The sauce was sublime with everything cooked to perfection. This has to be the best dining experience available in Drogheda. The service was first class as usual. The dining room has an old world charm that is original. They have a very interesting menu that always offers something different. Try it and enjoy the experience.
My wife & I stayed here for a night on a short trip to Drogheda and we were so pleased we did. All the staff were ever so friendly and we had a large and spotlessly clean room with a four poster bed. Great Irish breakfast to set you up for the day. Would definitely stay here again.
Myself and my husband are just home from here and we had a fantastic stay.we were upgraded to a room with a four poster bed at no extra charge and had breakfast to our room thismorning at no extra charge also.Beautiful hotel and spotlessly clean. The staff were so friendly and couldint do enough for us.we had a problem with connecting to the wifi and when I rang reception a lovely guy called mark was straight up to us with a rooter.we had a lovely 3 course meal in the restaurant and it was delicious.only down side would be the lack of parking but our brilliant stay made up for that.i would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay.i give it a big 10.
Just back from Scholars and very happy with our stay. Upgraded to a four poster bed in a big room. Interesting historical building well restored. Food excellent, recommend the blue cheese and poached pear starter. Staff here are exceptional, always positive and looking to help. Looking forward to a return visit.
Myself and my husband (gay couple), had found Scholar's Hotel online as an optimal recommendation for small number weddings as our guest list was 30 people. We had enquired early on 6+ months before the wedding and Aisling their wedding co-ordinator was extremely efficient with providing us all the details and setting us up. Once we had made all the confirmations, the period in between booking and the actual wedding date could have gone better. As there were both email, phone and in-person conversations there were some miscommunications which resulted in big impacts for us on the planning side of things and this was the only flaw I have to report in Scholars. At times we felt as if we were more of a burden and we also felt like we weren't getting the attention or support we…
Stayed one night on business trip. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good Covid precautions. The food both dinner and breakfast very good. Good service on food and drinks. Only downside was the En Suite little small but I guess fitting it into the space available in an older building made it so. Don't get me wrong the whole place is in excellent condition and finish but it is a historic building and interesting Impressed with cleanliness and dealing with Covid
