Originally built in 1867, this charming town house has been tastefully renovated in a modern style, whilst retaining its historic charm, with stained glass windows and high coved ceilings. Once used as a Christian Brothers house, Scholars now provides all the facilities and features of modern accommodation. It occupies a privileged position in the centre of the historic town of Drogheda, County Louth, only 20 minutes from Dublin airport via the nearby M1 motorway.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A sea food chowder to die for enjoyed a couple of days ago, loaded with a selection of fish, bacon etc. This establishment is a real gem, unique in every way, beautiful dining areas and cosy bar, friendly and attentive staff, perfection. Love everything about the place.

Let's put it this way.... One would be hard pressed to find any fault in this beautiful hotel and its staff. We were so comfortable and were made to feel so welcome by Anna. All the staff are so helpful and friendly. Had a delicious chowder for lunch. The breakfast was lovely. Very carefully kept inside and out. Four of us friends stayed over to go to Thomas Leddy Theatre for a concert on Saturday night. Looking forward to staying here again. Thank you so much.

It's fifteen minutes from the hotel to Newgrange, so it's an obvious base for visits to Newgrange. The hotel room was comfy and quiet. The restaurant downstairs is quite good and you could have hot drinks brought to the room at any reasonable time. The rooms aren't huge, but there's plenty of space to store your belongings.

From the minute you walk through the front door a feeling of extravagance overwhelms you with the exquisite décor and unusual antiques pieces of furniture and accessories. The staff are well groomed and very well trained in offering the best service to you and nothing is too much for them. Food is excellent and very well presented . Great value for money and the bedrooms very clean and shiny. I can highly recommend as a place to choose for a romantic weekend or a family's gathering as they have private small function rooms.

I checked out venues before my family visit to Drogheda, and noticed the gluten free options at Scholars had good reviews. So I booked the 6 of us in for dinner, and was delighted with the response. The lady who took our booking was efficient and pleasant. The lady who managed our meal was professional, attentive and patient. There was a good range of gluten free options, each were high quality and very satisfactory. We find some Caterers do not treat those on gluten free diets seriously, as if the celiac condition was a choice. Not so at Scholars. They were brilliant. My celiac son was chuffed to be looked after so well. His brothers were delighted with the quality of their food too. 6 empty plates were licked clean. Our experience here was of very high quality service and food, with significant value for money featuring also. We don't visit Drogheda often, but now have a reason too. Thank you to all of the team there for the highlight of our trip. You were brilliant.

From check-in to the pub to the breakfast...the entire experience was top rate. Everyone at Scholars House went out of their way to make our stay fantastic. Be sure to get the history lesson from Mark, cocktails from Carl and Louis, and anything else you could ask for from Catherine. Thanks to the entire staff for a great stay.

We are just back from three nights in this hotel. It has been wonderfully restored. The ceiling etc are a joy to see. We had a four poster bed with lovely stained glass windows. The room also had as we requested a walk in shower. The finish, the towels soap bedlinen etc. are of a high standard. The hotel is very clean which is of course always very welcome but is especially reassuring now. The outside seating came into its own during the hot weather. The food was excellent. We had a light bite from the catering truck one lunchtime and had our evening meal every night from the gastro pub menu. That would be my only issue with Scholars. The restaurant was not open and we found the menu to be limited both at breakfast and during the day. All the staff were friendly and helped us enjoy our short break. If only their names had been displayed I could pick out our favourites though maybe that would be unfair as all were excellent.
