Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Avoid this place, very poor rooms, not to basic standards, no reception or no night porter, got txt message to say the location had changed. No hot water, flys in the room, very cold rooms, no breakfast even though it was included in the price. Windows cracked, no fire escape, no smoke alarm, cracked tile in bathroom, keys broke in the door. We moved to hotel. Avoid avoid avoid.

OMG what can I say that hasn't already been said about this dump. We had originally booked a twin room in the gate lodge. My friend arrived to the hotel first to be told that our accommodation had been moved to the waterfront . She was given directions to it, when she arrived there was nobody there so she just popped into the cafe next door to see if they knew anything and they showed her to her room. Instead of a twin room we were give a double room. The heating didn't work, the hot water tap didn't work, the shower only ran cold water . I went to the toilet and had to sit sideways on it because the loo was facing a wall and had no room for my legs🙈🙈I went down and insisted we be moved to another room. The lady moved us and kind of tried to say we were lucky because we had been given a bigger better room! She showed me how to turn on the hot water for the shower then as if I was some kind of idiot. The room had no tv which we were originally promised. I went to make myself a cup of tea that night and opened a milk sachet to find a blob of green mould. No breakfast the next morning although I'd say we had a lucky escape. Can't believe this place hasn't been shut down!!

Due to Troysgate not having hot water, they put us here. Words cannot describe how dirty and disgusting this place is. When you walk in all you can smell is dust and dampness. We got to our room, mouldy curtains, spiders on the bed, dirty stained bed, no ventilation and the door handle nearly falling off. This place would probably be only suitable for rats at best. For your health, DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!

Arrived at 3pm to find the room wasn't ready despite advertising that it would be ready from 12pm. Entrance hall was filthy with several flies and other bugs flying around. No reception or person at the door, so had to go to the top floor to find a staff member to talk to. Staff member told us it was her first day - we've since read other reviews and found out that she tells this story to everyone, presumably so some of her ineptitude is forgiven by guests. No hot water, no towels, no toilet roll, dirty walls, dirty toilet and grubby bathroom floor. Only one plug socket in the room, which did not work. The receptionist/cleaner/general dogsbody demanded cash payment upon arrival despite us already having given our card details and committed to a deposit. We were not prepared to pay in cash upfront for such a terrible room, so we ended up cutting our losses and booking elsewhere. Do not stay here.

I Booked to go to this B/B in August and was really looking forward to catching up with family. I decided about 2 weeks after booking it to have a look on Trip Advisor(something I normally do straight away when booking) to see what other guests had said about it. Every single review said the same thing. DO NOT GO TO THIS B&B, Horrible, Filthy, Discusting etc, etc. and the pictures that guests had put up where appallling. Filthy Matress. Wall paper peeling off walls, mould, dirty toilets the list goes on. and although it says breadfast included according to most guests there was never anyone there to serve it. I was so delighted I took the time to check this place out on Trip Advisor and so glad so many people had reviewed it because it saved me money and time.

Dont stay here if you have any kind of standards when paying for accomodation. This is not a B & B. We had no hot water on our first night. We went out for a few hours and when we came back our room door was open. There was nobody in the premises to enquire how this had happened and when we rang the mobile we were told the girl probably went to put on pillowcases and forgot to close it when finished. When you hand over the cash on arrival, there is nobody in the building. Security would be a big issue and i would be afraid to leave anything valuable in the room. There was a noisy stag in the rooms next to us on the second night. They were left to their own devices, so we got no sleep.

It is the most disgusting place I have ever stayed. It needs to be removed from all booking sites ASAP. First of all it's infested with flies as you enter . The smell on stairs is unbearable. The reception is a small dingy room with a make shift table that's it. The rooms where do I start. No bulbs in any lamps, no locks or door handles on doors, no hot water, hairs on sheets ( we have pictures to prove), mattress filthy and sunk in, no breakfast the list goes on. Oh ya had booked for two nights but had to move. We booked for 6 on Friday night and 2 on Saturday night in total they charged me €397 . Please trust me STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE. I SHOULD HAVE READ REVIEWS FIRST

Just back from staying in this dump! Booked through a hen company for 11 girls. From the moment we pulled up outside I was horrified. There was nobody there to let us in so I had to ring a mobile number and we had to wait for someone to come and let us in. Getting in the smell of damp turned my stomach. The carpets in the hallway were filthy. There was no lift so we had to climb 3 flights of stairs with our luggage. The rooms were disgusting, the bathrooms had mould. In one of the girls bathrooms there was a hole in ceiling. There was no hot water. I don't know how this place hasn't been shut down!

We stayed at the gate lodge for two nights as we had our friends wedding! Firstly we booked and confirmed an early check in got there it was closed had to wait for someone to come and leave us in then there was no rooms ready so we got a half ready room with no hot water had to wait another half an hour for it to heed up! So we missed the church of our friends wedding! We were so disappointed especially since the owner confirmed the early check in! Dirty rooms and an overall horrible place to stay will not be returning EVER!!
