Great value compared to other hotels in Kilkenny. Location on edge of town suited us, for a family meetup. Bedrooms are comfortable (mattresses and furniture), the dinner was tasty and brekky was decent, with fresh bread/pastries, etc. Only things to improve: level of staff experience/training was not great, but I appreciate it's difficult to get people these days.
Just visited the Hoban Hotel for a meal. We chose the chicken supreme special and asked what vegetables were being served with it. The waitress went to the kitchen to check and came back and told us it was a medley which included, carrot, sugar snap peas and parsnip with mash. My partner dislikes very little when it comes to food but parsnips are up there with his pet hates. He declined the veg due to the parsnips. When we saw our meals being brought to our table in no time at all my partner joked that they must have a good microwave. The waitress put our plates down and walked away. We both looked at the plates and each other and both commented together that it looked like pepper sauce. Guess what, it was pepper sauce, and to add insult to injury there was no parsnip. We were in a rush and ate what we were served. Nobody came near our section of the restaurant again to check on us. We finished and went to pay. The waitress said €37 and we both did a double take. €37 for one plate of chicken and pepper sauce and mash and one chicken pepper sauce and veg. I pointed out that in my lifetime of working in hospitality (almost 40 years) and my partner coming from a family of chefs, neither of us had EVER seen chicken and pepper sauce served as chicken supreme. I suggested someone have a word with the chef and educate them. Just one more thing if any one from the hotel reads this, supreme is boneless, our chicken had the wing attached which makes it chicken côtelette.…
Checked in on 28 Sept eve. Top marks to Hoban for hospitality and quality. Cozy rooms warm room. Delicious non veg and veg food enjoyed by me and wife. The front desk and restaurant staff very friendly and helpfull. A simple smile goes a long. Strongly recommended. The visit to the castle and town was enjoyable.
We stayed overnight on the 3rd August 2022. The hotel is very nice. Location is a nice walk to the city centre for day trip and shopping. Really nice. The meal package included was exceptional. Food was A1 and the staff were brilliant. Ambience was very nice. We had a few drinks in the bar before heading to the centre for some live music and atmosphere. Breakfast was beautiful the following morning. Best of all was the bed so comfortable. Looking forward to our next stay. Overall lovely place to stay.
I recently stayed for a business trip. Overall the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Rooms were clean although there was a fairly strong odour in the bathroom. Location is close to the main road and convenient for travelers. Bar/restaurant staff were a hoot and the food was very good.
Not a good experience... lots of unfriendly staff, hanging around the empty bar. Don't get the overpriced fish and chips or sandwiches. The frozen chips were muck and the fish was disgusting...change the oil in your fryer!! The sandwiches wouldn't feed a mouse and the service was like faulty towers
Lovely food, rooms ok,fantastic shower but not enough storage, also needed to ask for extra towels 3 to a room but only towels for 2,I didn't choose this hotel it was great value but too far from the centre so it was taxis in and out, staff were lovely
Not great location if you don’t have a car, approx 35 minute walk from town. Hotel has loud pipes, hot rooms and can’t open windows or adjust temperature. Old,tired and in need of a makeover. Not clean-curtains, carpets, ceiling were dirty. Staff very nice. Restaurant was great. Skip it.
Booked this hotel last minute as a stopover on a road trip in Ireland. Hotel is very modern and the room I had was huge! Plenty of on site parking and a nice big inviting reception area. Breakfast was lovely and the staff in the dining room were very attentive! I would love to come back to this hotel, exceptional value for money!
So my wife and I and some other family stayed here while traveling in Ireland. Very comfortable hotel I uave to say, the rooms were nice and clean, the shower was exceptionally nice, it was an open shower concept with half of the shower inside glass. Lots of plugs in the room for charging devices as long as you have the required adapter. Couple of downsides the room stayed hot all the time even with the window open we couldn't get a decent breeze unless we had the window and the room door open. And there is no fan in the bathroom sucking out the moisture, so that moisture just goes into the room. Overall though I would absolutely stay there again there's a bar in the lobby that has a half a dozen beers on tap, as well as a decent liquor cabinet which was great if you just want to sit down for a pint. Honestly it was a great hotel and I would highly recommend it. 4 out of 5…
