I stayed here with my husband and daughter for 3 nights I was on a work trip and they joined me.

Our first impressions of our bedroom were that it was adequate. As we spent more time there we discovered it had not been cleaned properly prior to our arrival. Our 1 year old found a beer bottle cap on the floor, a dried fluid stain on the wall near the bed (which I cleaned myself as we have a small child), and a layer of dust on everything. After the first night I spoke to hotel staff and v they arranged a thorough cleaning of the room while we were out which improved things immensely - there was even a brand new toilet brush when we returned. I'd suggest the deep cleaning/updating of bathrooms to clean some black mould and water marks from the floor and wall tiles. The shower was excellent, hot and powerful.

The bed was very comfortable and the bedclothes& towels were clean and fresh. Although, oddly, a pillowcase was removed from one of our pillows and not replaced between the 2nd and 3rd night. I mentioned it to staff on checkout.

The meeting/ function room i was based in for work was a good size and very well set up for the purpose. Service (tea/coffee etc) was really excellent.

We ate at the bar/ restaurant on each evening and the food was very tasty. Service was excellent too.

Regarding Covid 19 precautions. I didn't see any staff wearing masks/visors. I did see them cleaning their hands regularly. A booking system was in place for meals. The breakfast buffet may have worked better as table service similar to that of dinner. There was plenty of hand sanitizer available and a one way system operated in the bar/ restaurant.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a holiday/romantic break. I would recommend it for one night stays eg business trip or brief stopover.

Myself and my Husband stayed here the 2nd week in September. The Hotel is very clean and our room was fine. It was a bit hot in the room so we asked and got a fan. I have to say that the staff doing the breakfast were fantastic, very helpful even though they were very busy. The Manager of the dinning room could not have been more helpful and she was both very friendly and very efficient. I would highly recommend this Hotel for a Staycation. We were able to book an evening meal on line which was very reasonable and fantastic value and very tasty. We will be back and thanks to all for a very nice stay. Aileen

My boyfriend and I were very pleased with our stay here at the Hoban Hotel. The Staff were very friendly and obliging to all requests and very adherent to Covid-19 procedures. The room was immaculate with a huge comfortable bed. The room was in a nice quite part of the hotel and we could open the window without being disturbed from outside. The meal and drinks we had in the hotels 1801 restaurant was delicious!!! Highly recommend this hotel for a getaway for anyone.

The reception and bar area looked really nice and modern upon arrival. Unfortunately the rooms are a different story. We got to our room and I couldn't believe the uncleaniness of it. It definitely was not cleaned thoroughly after the last guest checked out. There were big stains on the carpet, a sticky substance on the table, stains on the beddings. The bathroom is very small and looks like it has seen better days. There was all blue stuff in the bath and all around the bath stopper looked dirty. My partner went to reception and told them we had an issue with the cleaniness of the room. Carlos was very apologetic and sent up someone from house Keeping. She was nice but it worried me that she came into the room with no mask on and used the phone in the new room and never wiped it down after using. She said she could clean the room or show me one across the hall so we changed rooms to across the hall. It appeared to be a bit better as there wasn't as many stains on the carpet but on further inspection it wasn't cleaned properly either. The same grubby, blue stuff in the bath, pubic hairs all on the bathroom floor behind the door, the toilet seat was stained and dirty, rips in the bed linen, the window had finger prints all over the insides of it and the remote control was filthy dirty. I had to go out and buy dettol spray and both of us wore flip flops when showering because that blue stuff was embedded into the bath (which we were told was limescale?). I wouldn't normally be one to complain but with covid 19 still present I couldn't believe they would let someone into a room of such poor cleaniness. I read up on their policy for covid and they state things like remote controls and tables will be paid more attention to when cleaning. This clearly isn't the case. We sat down at the high seats In the bar and the tables weren't being cleaned down after peolple were done as there was a coloured drink spilled all along the table. Again, every other bar or restaurant would thoroughly wipe down the tables after every use with covid 19 still present. We did have dinner in the hotel as the reviews were good and this is the only thing that saved the trip for me. The food was delicious. I got vol au vants and mash and my partner got beef and veg. I would recommend here for food and drinks 100% but would not stay over again.

I booked a deluxe room through the website but not sure what was so deluxe about it? Was located on the ground floor beside the entrance which meant we could hear all the coming and goings. The room itself wasn’t great the ironing board was badly stained and the mirror in the bathroom had black circular marks all over. The bed was also two singles put together. Really not sure what the difference is between a deluxe room and a standard room.
The food in the restaurant was really poor, ordered wings for starters on first impression I thought it was from KFC across the road, upon tasting them I wish they were from KFC. Pizza was extremely greasy and doughy. I barely touched my mains with a full plate going back however none of the staff raised any questions of this.
On checkout I voiced how I wasn’t very happy with the room, the lady on reception seemed to be more interesting in the computer in front of her than how my stay went.
Overall really poor from the standard of the room to the staff, don’t think I could recommend the hotel. Such a shame as the website is very misleading and portrays as place of high standards.

Hi Traveler51807692313, Sorry to read your feedback, Upon departure as you walked out the door you said that the Hotel was bad, but when the Front Office Manager asked you what was wrong you continued to walk and not to talk. I accept that the mirror in that room was damaged but to the demister on the back of the mirror overheated and that mirror in room 126 has since been replaced. We are unsure what happened to the Iron Board but it looks like fake tan may have come in contact with it! The cover has also been changed as part of our double room checking policy. Our food and our 1801 Restaurant has an excellent reputation locally its such a pity you did not bring this to our attention when you were dining with us so if correction was needed it could be done so immediately. Sorry you felt disappointed with your stay but the image you portray of your experience with is, is thankfully not in keeping with the vast majority of our guests. Kind regards Clement Gleeson General Manager Our beds are King Koil which are market leaders and they are Zip N Link beds which makes them into a Kingsize bed.

Myself and my husband visited the Hoban for lunch on Sunday Aug 9th, as it was a sunny day we requested a table outside which there was no issue with. The menu had plenty of choice I opted for the chicken and mushroom vol au vent my husband chose the chicken goujons. The service by a lady called Debbie was swift the food was hot and delicious and Debbie was very pleasant and helpful. We also opted for apple pie served by a gentleman called Manu who was also extremely polite and helpful. Our drinks were served by Alex who was very knowledgeable and polite. This is the first time I have visited the hotel since the refurbishment its a very relaxed atmosphere attractive setting, the outdoor are we chose to be seated was absolutely gorgeous perfect for a family barbecue or party plenty of space and lovely views. We will definitely return to the Hoban and would recommend to friends and family. Many thanks to all the staff for a lovely day!!!

Just checking out after a lovely 2 night half board stay. Room was bigger than expected. Nice fresh linen on king koil mattresses. Bathroom on the small side but perfectly proportioned. No aircon in room so do request a fan for your room. The hotel is situated in a retail park which has costa coffee and KFC.
Negatives; We were in room 140 which overlooked the hotel front door and the retail park. The boy racers met both nights we stayed and were extremely noisy, no fault of the hotel. The hotel guests smoking at the entrance was most annoying as their cigarette smoke could be smelt in our room from early morning till after midnight. Very hard pillows on the beds so can be hard to make comfy.
Positives; Breakfast was good but the evening meals were fantastic. Portion sizes were great. We had the table d'hote menu as we were half board and the portion sizes were the same as the A La Carte! The staff are what makes this hotel special. From front of house to the domestic staff, everyone were friendlier than the next. A special mention to Debbie and the 2nd girl(I've forgotten her name) who were just amazing. They managed the bar and restaurant service for our 2 nights, with complete professionalism and a genuine smile. Nothing was too much trouble.
€205 for half board, 2 adults sharing for 2 nights, the value for money is hard to beat. The hotel is a 40 min walk to the centre of the city or a 6 min drive. Will visit again

Hotel is located at edge of a retail park. It’s website states it is a 15 minute walk into city, however, this isn’t true - it is a good 40 minute walk, some difference to 15 minutes! This meant we had to taxi in and out to city. When you add this into cost of hotel, it makes your stay more expensive!
We had a bed & breakfast rate - breakfast was just ok. Food was lukewarm and not appetizing to look at - only hot items we had were tea and toast which we made ourselves.
Bedroom was grand, however we were on ground floor and our bedroom window was at front door where crowds gather to smoke & party into small hours. This happened from 2am and continued to 5am on both the Friday and Saturday night and really ruined our weekend. We rang reception to ask them to move the people on. If you are intending to stay here my advice would be to avoid room 120. Hotel really should put a notice up to remind others that there are bedrooms nearby and some people are trying to sleep.

Fabulous hotel, super modern and the interiors are gorge! Staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly in every part of the hotel. It's super quiet and chilled which is lovely when you want to just relax.

We had 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and they were all absolutely mouthwatering, plenty in the portions and everything seemed freshly cooked and piping hot.
For dinner we waited about 20 mins or so for our main course (we didn't order a starter) but the food was more than likely only just cooked as it was so fresh and hot the whole way through so that made up for the wait.

The beds are very comfy, bathroom was a bit cosy but everything was spotless.
We asked for late check out and the receptionist Carlos was more than happy to accommodate us.

We stayed here as a stopover before heading to another hotel in Kilkenny. The Hoban was perfect as we got a rate which included breakfast, dinner and a welcome drink. I chose this hotel and I understand it had recently been renovated, however I was still surprised at how modern the room was! No cocktails was a slight disappointment however I understand it is a very corporate hotel, although 4 basic cocktails wouldn’t be hard to incorporate into the drinks menu. Great location and lovely staff- manager on check in was slightly tall and dark haired and the lady serving us breakfast was full of chat and you could tell she has been working there for awhile. Great experience will defiantly come again!
