While the rooms are hailed for their comfort and quietness, a few guests feel they could benefit from a refresh. Hotel's Favourite
Last minute booking as it was the bank holiday weekend. Second time to stay here. Comfortable warm room. Staff were excellent in all areas from the bar staff to the reception staff. Free on site parking at the rear of the hotel. The bar food menu is simple but ideal for what we wanted on the night the usual bar food prices. Breakfast was ok nothing special if I'm honest it was included in our booking.

We booked two nights bed and breakfast using a voucher. I had to ring the hotel to verify that the booking went through as I completed it on another site and the staff I spoke to were so helpful in verifying our booking.
Upon arrival, we were really pleased about how close it was to both the train station and the centre of Kilkenny. (5 minutes walk from the train station and 10 minutes to Kilkenny castle)
Our room was very comfortable and the door was sealed with a sticker when we arrived, to show that no one had been inside it since it had been cleaned. The TV had Netflix, Youtube and Amazon Prime preinstalled which was a nice touch! Wifi was also very reliable.
The reception and restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful!
We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant/bar as we wanted to try some other restaurants in Kilkenny but the menu seemed very reasonable, with a wide selection of meals and pub grub.
The pub attached to the hotel, O’Faolain’s, is built from the ruins of an old church so an interesting place to stop for a drink.
We had breakfast in the hotel both mornings and were very pleased with the service and the range of food available. Hot breakfast was served cantine style due to the Coronavirus, whereas cereals and pastries were self-service, with social distancing taken into consideration.
Fantastic value for money, I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kilkenny!! Hopefully, we'll be back again soon!

I had worked in and around Kilkenny many times but had never had the time to sight see.
The location of the Kilford Arms is perfect, being almost city centre. The attached car park removed one concern immediately. The friendly welcome from all of the staff immediately set the tone for the remainder of the break.
Food:
Very good, especially the breakfast.
Bed Room:
Spacious, clean and warm. Comfortable, high bed. All necessary facilities available.
Bath Room:
Okay but please exchange that old style straight shower curtain for one that curves out at the ceiling, allowing the curtain to still route the water into the bath, while not sticking to one's body.
Activities:
Having visited just after the reduction in Lock-down, many of the local attractions were still not open e.g. The Smithwicks Brewery tour, etc. However, you can't shut down Nature and the walk from Kilkenny to Bennetsbridge is amazing.
I would stay in this hotel anytime. Highly recommended.

We stayed 2 nights in the Kilford Arms. We were very impressed with the hotel check in facilities with perspex shields in place and the use of clean pens, which were then placed in a separate box for cleaning again before reuse. The room was sanitised and sealed before our entry and house keeping was by request only. We asked for additional water to be dropped up on the second day as we chose not to have house keeping in, and were brought loads of water straight away. However, the bars are to be avoided in covid times. We ate in the bar on the first night. Our menus (laminate sheets) were handed straight to us from a neighbouring table with no cleaning, and by waiting staff with no masks. The majority of waiting staff were not wearing masks. It was also clear that the table had not been properly cleaned before we sat (grubby and sticky in places). The meal was adequate but the bar could do with providing straws to the guests (note I did not actually ask for one and there may have been some I was not aware of, but saw no one using straws). The hand sanitisers as provided only work in 1 out of 3 cases. Breakfast was a similar disaster on the first morning (2 staff and only 1 wearing a mask), though much better on the second (friendlier staff with masks). It seems a perfect set up if you want to have just drinks with people, though with such a footfall in the bars, massive improvements could and probably should be made. Even for the price, I would only advise people stay if they only intend to use the hotel services to stay and not dine or drink.

Response from Manager Front Office Manager, General Manager at Kilford Arms Hotel
Responded 2 Sept 2020
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am delighted to hear that you were impressed with the hotel check in facilities as we have invested heavily in training for staff and amendments such as perspex etc to ensure the safety of staff and customers alike. All rooms are sanitised prior to guests arrival and are sealed. I am surprised at your comments in relation to the bar facilities as we have invested heavily here also in training and PPE etc. I have passed your comments on to the relevant departments, thank you again for taking the time to write your review.

Stayed in the kilford Arms and I never ever will again. Hotel seemed OK at 1st albeit a bit dated. I had booked online on their website and specifically requested a quiet room. Checked in and went out for the day. When we got back it was approximately 11pm and to my horror it was like there was a disco in my room! There was also a beer garden outside the window one floor down. Noise was extremely loud from the music and the crowd - vibrations could be felt coming through the wall! Although the window was closed cigarette smoke was still getting in. Tried to go to sleep but couldn't - it was impossible. Luckily when I rang the front desk it was possible to move to a room where there was no noise. So in fairness I'll credit the staff for at least doing this.
Checking out the next day I complained. I was swiftly told the website clearly states that they are an entertainment venue and I should have known this. I replied that I had asked for a quiet room so why was I put in the noisiest room. I was told it was a more expensive room than I had booked. I also added that I should have been informed at check in and why wasn't I at least given the opportunity to buy the better room if I wanted to make the choice. So I checked the website and what it states is "Please note the Kilford Arms is an entertainment centre at weekends with late bars and functions running late."i fail to see how that clearly states the noise will be so bad you can't remain in the room. So what we have here is a business that deliberately rents out rooms knowing full well they are not fit for purpose. Avoid like the plague.

We arrived early parked our car and checked in our room was ready early which was great when we got to our room there was a rattling sound coming from the kitchen vent below so I rang and asked to change room within minutes our room was changed we stayed in the top of the building like the attic room you could see Kilkenny castle from the room the rooms were out dated but spotless to get to reception there was quiet a number of twists and turns to the lift. We had dinner and breakfast included in the price it was pretty basic nothing special but we got it at a great price so really couldn’t complain. The hotel bar service was excellent and we were kept topped up throughout the night with our drinks. Over all it was great value for money the staff were very attentive and professional it’s in an ideal location At breakfast the next morning a very kind gentleman greeted up and came down to chat briefly with us about our stay I taught it was lovely and a very nice gesture. Before we departed. I would definitely stay again although it’s a bit out dated it was spotless value for money and in a prime location

We were charged €170 for 1 night stay which included breakfast.
The room was not worth the money at all. The bathroom had mould on ceiling and shower was mouldy all around the shower door rim. Tiles in bathroom were cracked and broken on the wall. The room was so outdated and old. The double bed was low to the ground and matress rock hard.
This hotel is more suited for young people on a hens or stag and just want somewhere to lay their head for a few hours. Certainly not for a couple.looking for a quiet night away. The noise of people coming up to their rooms at all hours of the night kept us awake most of the night.
We were in room 41 and we were kept awake until after 1am with the noise coming from ppl out drinking in the smoking area which was close to our room.
I might have accepted the mouldy shower and the old out dated room if I had maybe paid between 80 and 100 for the night BUT €170 is absolutely ridiculous considering the state of the room.

Stayed with some friends for one night while visiting the beautiful city of Kilkenny.
This lovely hotel is perfectly positioned for anyone who wants to roam around the city with the lovely Castle only a short walk from the front door. The staff were absolutely lovely, with everything in place to facilitate the public in these Covid times.
The room had a sticker on the door to indicate that it had been sanitized. All items of coffee/tea etc were packaged separately and there was a safe in the room.
We ate in the restaurant which was beautifully decorated , the tables well apart. The waiting staff were prompt and professional and very welcoming.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return again.

Stayed here for one night while attending a wedding nearby. Got an excellent B&B rate. Free car parking at the back with plenty of spaces. Check in was quick and easy with a friendly receptionist. Stayed on the first floor and took quite a while to find our room due to so many corridors, it was like a maze but well signposted. Room a little dated but it was clean and the beds were really comfy! Great shower too. Breakfast the next morning is great and if you’re a little late up they do an all day breakfast for €10. Check out was at 12 but we didn’t go down till 12.30 which was fine. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Kilkenny.

We checked into the Kilford Arms Hotel on 20th of November for two nights, and on arrival we were greeted by the hotel's very friendly staff. Our room was very clean and with a lovely view of Kilkenny City. We booked our deal through Irishminibreaks.ie so it included two nights b&b and dinner on one night. Both bars in the hotel are amazing and the breakfast was delicious and the dinner we had in the bar was amazing as well.
The hotel is a minute walk from the train station and a two minute walk from the Mcdonagh Shopping Centre and the hotel is a short walking distance from Kilkenny Castle and the busy city centre.
I have stayed in the Kilford Arms Hotel a couple of times over the years for running events with friends and it's a hotel I would highly recommend staying in.
