I think it would be a little difficult to find without a GPS and the front is very inconspicuous; however, this is a beautiful place to stay...very quaint and the grounds are breathtaking. The reception folks were very accommodating with information for the next leg of our journey to the Cobh and Cork areas. The room was spacious and bathroom... More

When we arrived they lady at the desk gave us all kinds of ideas of what to do and see, and she was spot on. The Smithwicks Brewery tour is a must. We didn't even know the brewery was located there. Great location within walking distance of the whole town, and a beautiful view of Kilkenny Castle. Oh yeah, breakfast... More

Unless you have a GPS you might have a hard time finding Butler House, and its front entry is certainly not imposing (a simple brass plaque marks the front door), but this is a magnificent gem of a place to stay. Our room overlooked the gardens behind the hotel and the castle beyond. Once upon a time this was the... More

The Butler House is a charming B&B. The room was very spacious and comfortable. There was a little street noise with a pub right across the street, but this wouldn't stop me from staying there again. The breakfast at the Design Centre was amazing - probably the best breakfast I had while in Ireland. Easy walking distance to pubs, restaurants,... More

This is a stellar bed and breakfast in Kilkenny. The room (for 4) was spacious and overlooked the gardens between Butler House and the castle. Location can't be beat. Breakfast, at the cafe in the design center across the gardens, was the best breakfast we had during our entire trip to Ireland. Why the "but . . ."? Wifi. The... More

This was our first stop on our Honeymoon. We arrived in the early morning hours and were greeted with a warm reception. Our room was large with a big comfy bed. Breakfast was amazing. Great Selection to choose from and just a small walk thru the beautiful gardens.

When in the Kilkenny area on business I have always stayed at Butler House for about 25 years now. Of Georgian origins it is centrally located, has lovely landscaped gardens away from the road and thus the setting is a good one. It is a walk of 5 minutes to a superb variety of shops and eateries in Kilkenny Town .... More

The staff were unbelievably friendly. We weren't the best dressed backpackers showing up at such a posh place and they treated us as they would treat the posh! The rooms are so beautiful and the restaurant is amazing! Worth the splurge for us!

Pulling up to the front door we were a little nervous (was it a hotel or an old building?), but heading around the back and realizing we were on the grounds of Kilkenny castle... well... enough said! Grounds were gorgeous and gardens weren't even yet in bloom. Included breakfast was perfection. Main level could use an update (smelled musty), but... More

Myself and a friend stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the old world feel to Butler House. We had booked a twin room and when we got there, found we had been upgraded to a large suite at the back of the house overlooking the gardens...impressive! The room & bathroom were both spotless. Breakfast is served in the Kilkenny... More
