The Kilkenny River Court Hotel offers spacious and clean rooms, though some guests find the decor to be dated and have mentioned problems with noise and temperature control. Its central location wins universal acclaim, making it an excellent base for exploring the city. The hotel's service garners mixed reviews, with commendations for staff friendliness contrasting with criticisms of occasional unprofessionalism. While the breakfast and parking facilities are often praised, opinions on value vary: guests appreciate the reasonable rates available midweek, but some feel the food is overpriced and the rooms underwhelming.

Stayed here for two nights mid week in the Bridge house section and it was great value for money and a very central location. The parking was free and staff very friendly. Over all great hotel but a couple of problems one was the windows would not open to let fresh air in and the safe would not work (forgot to say this to reception on check out) and the breakfast was only ok. We will return.

Me and my HUSBAND got married at the stunning Kilkenny Rivercourt Hotel on the 24th of August and from start to finish the Rivercourt has been sensational.

Starting with my first initial enquiry with Sharon i was given excellent customer service, a personal 1:1 showround appointment and booked our big day with 2 years to go. With endless emails sent i was never a bother to the wedding team and honestly made me feel as though i had gained a friend in Sharon rather than a wedding coordinator just doing her job. The reservations team also were always on hand with any enquires and made the whole planning process so easy and was always so professional throughout our communication when trying to organise my guests rooms.

Our menu tasting we done 3 months prior to our wedding date and on this occasion i was greeted by the lovely (Noreen - sorry if I've got your name wrong) and she was absolutely excellent! Topping us up with wine, checking we enjoyed everything and it genuinely seemed she was excited for our day to arrive as much as us. Along with the many waiting staff we had the pleasure of meeting that night, the food was superb compliments to the chef and the countdown was on to try it all again on our big day.

Fast forward to our wedding weekend, i was lost for words with the warm welcome me and my husband received when checking in, and walking around the hotel in the bar and public areas everyone said hello, checked in on us and always had a smile on their faces. When checking in the hotel reception girls were amazing and complimented on the wedding newspapers we had requested to put in the guest rooms. The Bridal Suite room was out of this world, with enough space for all my bridal party to get ready with me the morning of the wedding. The view of the Castle was breathtaking and i am now so sad i won't be waking up to that view anymore.

On the wedding day itself i was blown away with absolutely everything! The reassurance i was given trying to decide if we were going ahead with a indoor or outdoor ceremony due to the unpredictable weather, the breakfast platter delivery and everything else from setting up some of the DIY items, and getting me down the aisle in my HUGE dress. All the staff including the amazing duty managers ~ Noel, Leticia and Noreen - i can't thank them enough. The food was incredible, the food service from the waiters and waitresses was incapable and all the bar staff were all just so friendly and was always checking if i needed anything - our day was truly a dream came true.

All the staff included in our day you are real superstars, and Anthony credit to you for running such a great team at the Rivercourt Hotel. I could go on and on about how amazed we were with everything during our stay, but for now we are counting down to come back and stay again in the future.

Thank you for making our wedding a day we'll never ever forget.

Mr & Mrs Asling x x x x x

Fabulous Hotel in Kilkenny City on the banks of the river opposite Kilkenny Castle, perfect location, park your car @ hotel & very easy walking distance to everywhere in the city..
We had a very warm welcome from the fair haired young lady on reception ( didn’t get her name but believe she had only been there a few weeks).. explained everything to us, a lovely young lady a credit to the Hotel & her parents..
All staff were very warm & welcoming throughout the hotel, nothing was too much trouble..
The breakfast buffet style & I defy anyone to find fault with it it was outstanding, only staying for 2 nights ( 1st night late arrival) so we were unable to eat in restaurant as we were out in Kilkenny, but food looked excellent..
We loved our stay & without doubt we shall be back @ River Court Hotel hopefully June 2025..
Thank you River Court for your facilities & excellent staff with a true Irish welcome..

Based on being 4 star I expected an average stay but felt like this hotel fell below that from start to finish. The location is the winning point in that it’s very walkable to the Castle and main streets (under 10 min walk). Despite that the other areas pulled the ranking down. No AC (that’s normal) but being next to a main bar meant the window being open for air resulted in not being able to sleep due to noise. The small fan that was provided didn’t do anything. The room was updated in the bathroom but that was it. There were several spiders in the room and it felt musky. We were never offered help with our bags and when asked on our exit staff seemed annoyed . Our room location was literally a maze, two separate elevators going up stairs only to go down the other hall…. Very confusing and we got lost immediately upon trying to find since no one offered to show us. Luckily someone helped us in the hall but didn’t seem overly pleasant. We were charged for something in our exit bill that no one explained and I’m still waiting on info. Beds were uncomfortable and honestly this hotel set us back on the trip. We never caught back up on the lost sleep. I would choose another place of sleep matters to you.

*Would not consider mobility challenged friendly by any means

Installed on the terrace by a waitress for dinner, no one then comes to take our order. A manager is sitting next to us sipping a beer and he has a snotty nose. He keeps sniffing his mucus: vile. The menus fly because of the wind and nothing is planned to weight them down. Faced with the quality of the service and the excessive Award of the card, we block the menus under a chair and bye bye. We ended up in a nice pub.

We had our wedding day on the hottest day of the year here, 8th September. From the moment we arrived we received the warmest hospitality we have ever experienced. Noel and Eric were absolutely outstanding we didn't want for anything their attention to detail was amazing. They also have great sense of humours and kept us all laughing which is what you want on your day, anything we asked for we received without hesitation. Our wedding coordinator Sharon is without a doubt one of the best, Sharon had the hotel looking absolutely fantastic on our day. Her touch was in everything from the food right down to reserved parking spaces for our guests. Sharon went through everything with a fine tooth comb, she kept us on time throughout our planning and kept us going to our next stage of planning, this lady gave us 100% of her time energy and effort throughout our wedding and our planning. Our guests told us they had never been to wedding with such hospitality food and laughter from staff at Kilkenny Rivercourt. We got beautiful photos with the backdrop of Kilkenny castle and at such value for money we couldn't of gotten it anywhere else in Ireland - if your hesitating on booking for your wedding, I would advise to book now it's just amazing 🥰
Our suite was picture perfect the bed was so comfortable, there was two balconies overlooking the river more and Kilkenny castle it was extremely romantic, there was even a jacuzzi in our suite. The food on our suite was all laid out bottles of champagne and chocolates - it was just heaven.
We would like to Thank Anthony, Sharon, Noel and Eric for all their dedication to our wedding day and making our dreams come true we had the best day of lives and will be forever grateful. You are one outstanding team. Lots of love Yvonne and Thomas Ryan 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

My first visit to Rivercourt hotel. I had to drive around to get parking . I had contacted the hotel on booking to confirm that they had EV chargers and were they free for guests . I received email confirmation that indeed they were free for guests.
So I parked in the designated spot but was unsure of the next step, I thought the hotel would need to activate the charger. So I walked up to reception who told me you can just plug it in and it’s free ! However that is not the case , they use go charge and it’s .45 per kWh. I rang from the car to reception to tell them this and was told nothing they could do now but someone would ring me Monday morning . I did receive a call Monday and asked how much I spent I said €10 was told yes nothing they could do and the guests pay. I was a little annoyed by this . Reception / reservations should be made aware so that the correct information is given to guests .
My room was ready at 3.30, room was ok , bed was comfortable. However it was an awful view just over the reception area. Cigarette butts on the roof plus when I was walking from the car park I felt the hotel was shabby and dirty on the outside for a 4 star I expected more.
Windowsills could be cleaned or painted, lots of weeds etc.
i had dinner in the bar the first evening, it was ok staff were friendly . I had turkey and ham , meat wasn’t great I guess it was cooked earlier that day . Potatoes and veg were nice as was dessert.
Breakfast on both mornings was really good lots of choice. The gentlemen at the desk was very friendly and welcoming . I dined elsewhere on the 2nd night. I agree that doors closing are really loud and woke me . When checking out I mentioned toilet seat was broken plus shower head mostly blocked so receptionist took note of that .

Stayed here recently for one night with my toddler. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. The welcome was warm and friendly, the girl on reception was incredible with my son which I always appreciate as he is a friendly little soul.

The room was spacious and very clean, the bed was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was big enough for what we needed, was very clean and had a big bath which was a very nice surprise for my toddler.

We had food in the bar that evening and it was great value and very delicious. I had the Riverview baguette and it was one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. Once again, the staff in the bar were wonderful.

Breakfast the next morning was laid out very nicely and easy to navigate. I did find it strange that I wasn't offered tea/ coffee when everyone else seemed to be. I had to go and ask the waitress if I could have a pot of tea. Also, when I arrived at the restaurant for breakfast the lady asked if I needed a table for three (even though it was just me with my toddler in my arms) and seemed a bit insulted when I said just for two. The breakfast staff didn't seem as friendly as everyone else we had met.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again. It is great value, almost too cheap, I couldn't believe the price and only 5-10 minutes from everything we had come to Kilkenny to visit. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for a wonderful getaway.

My husband is from Kilkenny and I am from Clare so the view of the castle was just perfect for our guests. The bridal suite is large comfortable and welcoming. The wedding package prices are so reasonable. The reception room on the day looked outstanding - perfection. This hotel is an amazing wedding venue. Location doesn't get better than this.

The wedding room rates were excellent. The amount of extra rooms required at the wedding rate was no issue. There is no comparison in Kilkenny. The rooms are clean, modern, comfortable and spacious.

The food! I'm just going to say OMG!!!
We visited on a number of occasions just to be certain it was going to be at a standard we wanted for our guests. There was not one complaint. Our meal tasting matched the meals presented on our day. BBQ on day 2 was smashing aswell.

The staff are friendly welcoming and got to know our guests that booked in for a number of days. Amy in Reservations was so nice to deal with throughout the booking process, constantly keeping me updated.
Management, room service, bar staff, front of house, wedding servers and absolutely every member of staff were outstanding. But I have to say ye have a gem in Sharon. This lady takes away all the stress and brings the day together perfectly. Add in Noel to complete running the show like clockwork. The perfect duo!

In summary we highly recommend this beautiful hotel. Our guests from Clare and Kilkenny are still raving about the wedding. My family and friends will be back to stay when they come to visit us in Kilkenny over the coming years.

Hi Michelle, Many thanks for taking the time to post a review of your stay last Friday night. As advised in our email correspondence of the last few days we checked your room on Friday evening and there was plenty of hot water. We were not aware you had the same issue on Saturday until you had checked out. Again as advised by email I confirm the room was checked on Saturday afternoon and had copious amounts of hot water. I did offer some recompense to you for a future stay by email yesterday which was not acceptable to you. We are in the business of providing hospitality and are disappointed you have left the hotel unhappy over an issue which we felt we had addressed. I would value the opportunity to welcome you both back to the Kilkenny River Court Hotel in the future where my offer will continue to be available. Kind Regards, Anthony Smith General Manager
